It's great for using for family get togethers and for videoing the kids. Love the LCD touch screen and the software that came with the camera. Overall, it's not only a great buy, but the HD is fantastic quality. The light sensor is great and quickly adjusts to the light.

I am happy with the quality of the picture,especially on the HD Sony TV. I have not made a dvd yet so i hope the quality stays the same. So far i am happy with it for the price.
My only complant is that sony made it a little to small, it should be bigger so it is easier to handle. If i had the money i would buy a Sony HDR-FX7.

I got this camer a week ago and have been blown away with the queality and ease of use. The stabilizer is good but when zoomed in you have to have it very steady. I loced the one touch button for burning HD dvd's. It works like a chram amazing.
I would get a longer battery life and a wide anlge lens for this camera!

For the money, I nice HD camcorder. Unfortunately, I chose it specifically for compatibility with Sony's Vegas Pro 64 bit (v8.1) and it wasn't. The file format does however work well with Vegas 7.0 and 8.0c and even the new 9.0. I have since returned it and ordered the Canon HF200 since Sony would not give me a deal on the upgrade to 9.0 despite having just bought 8.1 less than 3 months ago.

I've really enjoyed my HDR-CX100. It provides wonderful quality HD video and the audio on these recordings really exceeded my expectations.
One fault is that camcorders have gotten smaller through the years, maybe too small. The CX100 is designed to be used and manipulated with one hand, but this is awkward to do at best and doesn't give much stability to your filming. The CX100 makes up for this by providing menu, zoom and record buttons on the flip out LCD panel, and once you hold that the stability is much improved. The touchscreen does easily smear, but its not noticeable once the LCD is activated and it's easy enough to clean.
The software included makes conversion of video to WMV or MP4 a snap.
Overall the old adage of "you get what you pay for" is active here. You can get an HD Camcorder for less, but you'll sacrifice on the video and audio quality. I'm glad I paid a bit more for the CX100.
