Super high image quality videos are possible with this camcorder (1080p). The camera capabilities are far above what other camcorders offer at this price point (8MP photos). It is incredibly compact and can fit easily in a pocket of loose fitting pants or shorts. There are only 4 things I would like them to change. There is only Digital Image Stabilization, not mechanical/optical. The noise on the still pictures is slightly higher than those of a similar MP digital camera like an elf, coolpix, or cybershot, but 5X7's or smaller you won't notice it. There is no top shoe for a light. I recommend one of the camerabrite that mounts to the tripod mount on the bottom. The mount is off center so the light will force you to hold the camera a little differently but it works well and keeps the size down. If you buy the Bescor led that is listed 1st in the accesories you will also need to buy the bracket that is listed which makes the camera much larger. Last is the menus, they are not on par with the Canon's or Sony's but you can find everything if you play around with it and familiarize yourself with how it works. I am willing to overlook these shortcomings because the video is slightly better than the Canon Vixia HF S100 but at less than half the price.

In looking at the previous reviews, I expected a better video camera, but I'm returning this one. The digital image stabiliztion is very poor and not useable. The color and white balance is over saturated and too "warm". The image resolution quality seems smeared and isn't any better than my previous non-HD camera. I also noticed that indoor videos seem very "noisy", even with the high sensitivity feature enabled.
This video camera may only be good when mounted on a tripod with IS turned off, with good lighting, and manually adjustable montior for color and contrast.

Really small, compact camera. Easy to use. Menu is intuitive, important features are easy to find. Auto white balance seemed to work really well. Adjusted well to changing lighting conditions much faster and better than other similar cameras I have experience with (Canon HG10, Sony HC1). Colors are quite nice. If your computer can't handle full HD you can always switch to recording in lower resolution. The biggest problem so far - 4GB limit. It stops recording after 4GB file is recorded. The good part - it starts recording on it's own, you don't have to do anything. It does take about 7-10sek to start recording, so if you are recording some lecture or concert you'll have a gap. How long it can record without stopping depends on the setting. It records about 20 something min of 1080P and about 1h of 720P video.

I did what I always told people NOT to do! We bought a new camera right before vacation!!
But it proved that this camera is easy to use despite its' many features. It is not "instantly" on from sleep mode, but it's pretty close.
The RECORD button is in a rather awkward location, causing the operator to jiggle the camera when going to turn off the recording. That's the only really weird thing about this camera.
Video is crisp and AF works decently. The image stabilization isn't anything to write home about. It's OK (it's digital, NOT OPTICAL) but it's nowhere near the quality (or the price!) of true optical image stabilization. Having been used to Canon's high quality optical IS on their still cameras, this was a bit of a letdown.
This camera has a 37mm threaded filter ring, so you can put SONY brand lens adapters on it. I tried an old wide angle adapter that I bought for a Sony Digital8 camcorder and it works perfectly. Since the camera itself is so small, even with the big wide angle adapter on the end, it's still a compact camera.
I bought an extra battery but found that the over 1 hour recording time on a single battery was more than adequate. But I do like the security of having a backup battery.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1 Dual Camera Xacti Full 1080p HD Camcorder (Black):
I purchased this cam, after days of research, specifically for the purpose of making short films. I had a digital video class in school, and I knew their camera's were horrible and outdated. This camera has excellent quality and for the semi-small price tag, is easily affordable. The SD capabilities make it easy to retrieve footage and organize the files.
The 600 and 240 fps modes are really fun to play around with but the 240 mode is the only one with decent enough quality to upload. I bought an inexpensive 37mm UV filter which enhances the outdoor colors greatly.
The only gripes I have with the camera are with the MP4 file type and the focus takes a while at close range. However there are plenty of manual settings that allow you to offset this. The MP4 is just a tad difficult to deal with as After Effects does not import said file type.

Great package, video is great, fast focus, HD is clear. Hand held stabilization is working well, but when zooming far, still moving a little too much. Much better on a monopod.
Photo is good, viewing area is a little weird, cannot zoom and focus at the same time. You have to zoom prior to focusing, or stop focusing and zoom again. Photos are good and sharp.

Very impressed by this camcorders capabilities. The image quality is superb, and my boys love(!) the 240 frame option for producing slow motion videos. Very cool. The images are fine and video really is great. Do wish it had optical stabilization - but for the price I say it's a winner!

As this is my first camcorder, i was highly impressed with the ease of use and picture quality results. I also like that this is a flash MPEG4 camcorder. (So no moving parts as it records to a standard SD mem card) This camcorder starts up fast and i used it to film my vacation trip. I even took it on some rides and got great results. Sound quality was impressive too! It also worked great in low light. This cam is one of the newest out there so the tech on this camera is pretty much the latest. The stabilization isn't bad and i got great footage (and sound!) even while on a amusement high speed ride! As it is a duel camara too i have not used the photo as much but i would prefer a regular digital camera. Battery life was absolutly great for me as i used it all day and night (shooting everything withing reason) This camera performed great for me and i almost spent more money to purchase the Cannon V series which would have cost much more. If your looking for point and shoot and great all around i would recommend this cam, if your looking for super high end use i am not too sure if this is the best cam. I would highly recommend this camera for the price.

This camera is a great alternative for those looking to shoot video in all conditions. (So many HD cameras are terrible in low light!) The legit HD image quality of this camera for the price makes it a great contender in the sub $500 market.
Unfortunetly, image stabilization is mediocre limiting the usefulness of the decent zoom lens unless one uses a tripod. Also, while the noise reduction is very effective, using it will soften the image.
Where this camera really shines is shooting full wide with a wide angle lens added to allow one to get close to the action. (In this scenario image stabilization is not an issue) This makes it a perfect camera to capture family events in all lighting conditions.

The camera is fantastic for everyone from beginners to amateur film makers. It's extremely light and portable but has the power and performance to record in full HD. The picture and sound are excellent. Very simple to use and understand but still has plenty of options and goodies to choose from. I use it mainly for adventure and action sports filming and it works amazing. Only problem to speak of is the format in which the videos are recorded onto the SD is MPEG4 which is not used by most editors. I usually use Premiere Pro to edit but it cannot handle this format. Most converters I downloaded were junk so I started using Premiere Elements which is simpler.

This handy little high-definition camcorder/camera is a great deal for the price. It fits in the palm of your hand. It records in 1080i and 1080p plus the 720 format, 480i format, web format and slow motion. It also takes photos in the 4:3 aspect ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio. The flash is decent.
There are only 5 buttons (plus an on/off button) that operate all the controls and menus. This makes operation extremely simple. However, the video record and photo buttons are a little difficult to reach with the thumb because the rear strap attachment is too low. This causes excess pressure on the web between the thumb and fore finger.
Definately worth the money for all of the features.

I got this camera for a recording my kitesurfing adventures, recording golf swings and miscellaneous other things. There are a few things I like about this camera:
1. Small
2. Light weight
3. Great 1080p 60fps mode
4. Slow motion modes are fun for some of technical uses (golf swings, recording engineering drop tests, etc etc)
5. Battery life good
The only gripes are that the 60fps 1080p mode is limited to about 25 minutes of recording, due to the 4GB file size limit, and the 10 second limit on the 240 and 600fps modes.
I also made an underwater housing for the camera for my watersport adventures and it works great underwater too! (And better quality video than the underwater Sanyo camera model).
All in all a great camera. Just be sure to invest in a lot of flash memory, a lot of hard drive space and a fast computer. At 1080p and 60fps, movies get big easily, and require a decent processor for playback.

I bought this after previewing a friends Sanyo 1010 hoping that improvements were made. The image stabilization is a bit better but not much. It operates well in low light and is simple to use for my wife. The downfall. Not easy to transcode to edit in final cut. It takes at least a day to convert 1 hour of MP4 compressed video in to Apple-proRes for final cut. Video quality is good and the camera is very small. I'm still looking for a good editing workflow for this camera.

I use this product to video tape my 11 month old daughter. It's so easy to use! I just open the camera, turn it on and hit record! That's helpful when I quickly see something that she's doing and would like to record it. It's easy to play back and to download the video too. It's so compact that it fits anywhere - even in my diaper bag! The picture is very clear too.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1 Dual Camera Xacti Full 1080p HD Camcorder (Black):
So far I have used this for just about anything I need a superfine image, or video taken of. I bought an 8 Gig SD card for it which can last it's 1080 p that's 1920 by 1080 picture recording at 60 fps ultra fine quality f0r 42 minutes. That's plenty of time to cover what you need to do and say.
You can easily extract the heavy video data, by heavy I mean very high quality video data from the device granted you have something that can use mpeg 4 such as quicktime does. Then import it to something like Vegas when the codecs are installed.
It also takes images at 12 mega pixels 4000 by 3000 4:9.
Or,
16:9 wide 3264 by 1840.
The resolutions go as far down as 640 by 480. So you're not stuck with high res.
The video recording records at 1920 by 1080, or 1280 by 720 as your HD options. It also have wide screen options available at lower resolutions as well.
It can record in 240 to 600 frames per second.
This is the only downfall I could find, I can not find a way to make them bigger than 197 frame, a VERY SMALL, and I mean VERY FREAKING SMALL high speed recording.... Which makes it a little off on the technical side, sine they don't allow recording of high speed in anything bigger than that at 600 fps. I wish I could record at 600 fps at at least 1024 frame on this, but I do not know if you can, or how if you can.
My total review is that everything is great, I say if you have the 500, go for it. You won't regret it.
The picture quality of the 1920 by 1080 in ultra fine is unbelievable, awesome quality.

I bought this camera for the 1080 60P to use for slowmotion. When I opened the box I was amazed how small it was and how they packed so many features into this little cam.
This cam will really fit into your pocket, has full manual control,ISO,shutter,F-stop in video mode. I bought a Raynox .3 semi-fisheye to go with it and with it's size it make a great crash or POV cam. The only con is you have to change the WB from auto or the WB shifts.
