This camera has the looks, style and functions to make it a "recommended purchase".
This is NOT a DSLR, this is a compact point and shoot digital camera. It has the normal and expected shortcomings when compared to a DSLR. However, it measures up quite well when compared to similarily priced compacts. The operative word is "price".
I own NIKON's D300 & D90. With this camera, I got more than I expected. 1)Images are quite clear. 2)Low-light shots are well exposed. 3) Battery life is good with quick re-charge.
4) features are plentiful and useful. 5)Size is perfect for purse or pocket.

I bought this camera 2 weeks ago to replace a 5 or 6 year old 7.1 MP Canon Elph. I went out looking to buy another Canon but the sales person talked me into the Nikon S220...said it was less expensive(very true) and a good camera(not true) and it was lightweight and compact(very true). Anyway, I wish I had read some user reveiws before I bought it -I'm kicking myself for not doing that! I read some reviews after the fact and was shocked to see the low ratings that people were giving the camera. But I decided to give it a try and form my own opinion. So, I have used the S220 indoors during the day and at night & outside during the day and at night. I have also tried it out on moving objects -like my dog. Right away I was unhappy with the results -but I kept on adjusting it and trying it out -giving it every chance to perform up to my specs -which it did not. I compared the Nikon pictures to pictures taken on my old Canon Elph and noticed right away that the old Elph produced much sharper pictures. I found that no matter what I did I was consistently unhappy with the S220's picture quality. I went back to reading user reviews on Canon/Nikon/Panasonic and decided to stick with the Nikon Coolpix. I loved the lightweight/compact size of the S220 -but I decided to upgrade to the 12.1 mp S630 -which actually got pretty good user reviews and is the same size as the S220. I sent the S220 back yesterday and when they recieve it they are going to switch it out for the S630. It costs a little more but in the end I think I'll be much happier that I upgraded.

This is a great camera for a starter. You can also record video. 10 megapixels for around $100. What else would you need?
It would have been great if there was a camera bag in the package though.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S220 Digital Camera (Plum):
I love my new Coolpix S220 Digital Camera. I use it for my family picture taking. I have a little boy and needed a new camera desperately since my last camera was stolen. I researched for quite a while and when I was ready to buy, I went to B&H for my purchase, as I did for my last electronic purchase. The camera was easy to use right out of the box. Just charge the batteries (about an hour & 20min) and pop in the battery & start shooting photos! I am very happy with my purchase and happy that I trust B&H.

I got the camera for my daughter for her birthday and she loved it. She immediately used it for her party and got great pictures. It was one of her best gifts ever according to her. She loved the color(plum) and hopes it will give her years of pleasure with wonderful pictures.
