I really wanted to like this camera. After all, it is a perfect size to just drop in your pocket to capture all of those unexpected opportunities that come along. However, there are three main design problems that keep it from being a piece of equipment that I would recommend to others.
First, the battery/memory card compartment door will not stay closed. Darn thing just keeps sliding open at all the wrong times. The problem is so bad that I put tape across the bottom of the camera each time I recharge the battery. Yuck!
The second thing that I do not like is the position of the flash. It is located in a place where unless you pay attention the fingers of your right hand partially or completely cover it up when holding the camera to take a photo.
And my last complaint is the jerky function of the zoom lens. I just cannot seem to make the zoom function work smoothly. It either zooms too much or not enough.
These are problems that Nikon needs badly to address.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Jet Black):
This is the second of these cameras I've bought -- this was a gift for my brother, and I own one myself. I used to have a Casio Exilim, and this Nikon is far superior. It's got a quick shutter, very good shooting modes (the 'backlit' setting is really genius!), and the color is fantastic. It's small enough to carry anywhere in a purse/bag, or pocket if you have cargo-style pockets. I love the 7x optical zoom too. (It zooms very quickly, which is generally very handy, though if you're trying to frame precisely it can be a little tricky to hit just the size/distance you want.)
Every once in a while I get unfocused shots, but I suspect this is true of all point-and-shoots. It has rarely bothered me.
The video is also great - long videos, great sound & picture, etc.
Finally, the controls are all very simple & easy to use and understand. Very clear layout, menus, buttons.
All in all, I strongly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a point-and-shoot digital.

I got this camera and got over my expectations for quality and available resources. The high ISO allows her pictures in low light and no noise in most situations.( Perfect for night events, even candle lights ... !!! ) The brightness of the lens is excellent. You can venture into macro shots and get incredible results.
Capture video and audio is also great, much better than the Sony line.
It is a small and lightweight camera, but without losing functionality (I hate tiny buttons that people can barely see what they are for).
So I say , it´s powerful as all Nikkon born to be

The only problem I have is that when I connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable, the cap in the camera that opens to the USB connection does not fully open and gets in the way for an easy process.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Jet Black):
I use this camera for recreation and it serves it's purpose well. It is compact but really durable. It's the quality you would expect from Nikon. The wider angle lens is great and not what you normally get from a regular P&S camera. It has a lot of great features like continuous mode, etc.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Jet Black):
I use this as a backup (when shooting with SLR and long lens) and carry everywhere camera.
Images are generally sharp, color pretty good. Museum mode and sports mode (3MP) are among its best features. At ISO 3200 and 6400 pictures are 3MP and very grainy in low light, barely worth it.
Biggest downside is that it doesn't have manual and program controls or HD video. I regret not choosing the Pentax Optio W80.
7x Optical Zoom with small diameter controller is hard to fine tune. Good close up scene mode, but macro mode alone doesn't seem to work as well.

We love this camera. It's very easy to use and it takes great pictures. If this camera had a touch screen with the same zoom it would be the best. We really haven't had a problem with it in low light like some others have said. Battery life is adequate, though we wish replacement batteries did not cost quite so much.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S630 Digital Camera (Jet Black):
Being a professional myself, I wanted to give my "film bound" girlfriend something that would allow her to break into digital with a quality point and shoot that was user friendly and compact, but still had high enough image quality to satisfy my eye. This Nikon is all that and still has deep enough menus to continue to have "discoverable" features for several years to come. The S630 was the perfect Xmas gift. High resolution, a large screen Image stablization, and 7X optical zoom were the most attractive features. The zoom feature is a little touchy (easy to overshoot the magnification you are seeking) but with practice it is very manageable. Nikon's transfer software is very familiar and user friendly, and the Blink and Smile sensing features are interesting marvels in themselves and function surprisingly well. The camera seems to have high battery capacity even when using the flash and the controls are well thought out. Everything I would expect from a Nikon.
