Comments about AJA Io Express Desktop Video Audio I/O Interface:
We were very pleased with this AJA box. It does everything the AVID I/O box did for 10% of the cost. The box is clearly professional and well made. One very important function is left out of this box and all the other new AVID "open I/O" boxes. They don't support HD closed captions. This is an inexcusable oversight. But other than that, the box is great.

Comments about AJA Io Express Desktop Video Audio I/O Interface:
I use this box and often switch in between HD & SD projects in Avid. At the company I work for, we bought it because I was using a Mojo DX and was unable to monitor or capture anything in HD. Now, I can capture in HD or SD, but we've had to go through big work-arounds to get outputting to work properly. The biggest issue this hardware has is deck control. AJA claims that the box has deck control, but it's very poor at it (with Avid, at least. We don't use FCP here). At my edit bay, we have the Mojo DX still hooked up so that I can output to beta or digibeta. However, to switch between the hardware I must completely restart my entire system (Mac Snow Leopard).
All in all, the box is good at handling HD & SD projects in and of themselves. SDI output and HD SDI output automatically switches in my monitor without me having to do anything. If you know that you won't be outputting to tape or XDCAM or anything, this box may work great for you. But if that's something you need...well, you might be better off sticking with Avid's hardware.

For HD use the FCP7, code Proress 422 NON-HQ or Proress 422 LT (fcp7 only).
