This Gates Deep Red mechanical underwater housing was designed in collaboration with the award-winning cinematographer Howard Hall. It is for the Red One 4K digital motion picture camera. The housing is constructed of bulletproof aluminum with type III hard anodized finish, and sealed with a nickel-acetate process. Despite its strength, the housing is compact, and travel-friendly for the globe-trekking underwater videographer.
The Deep Red system has adjustable handles that provide the perfect grip and fingertip access to many different functions. Flexible trim weights allow for ideal buoyancy and balance. The housing provides total control of camera functions with reliable mechanical controls, and crystal-clear optics. Since it is a mechanically controlled housing sealed with o-rings, you don't have to worry about being in a remote area and needing a soldering gun to fix a corroded connector. The Gates Seal Check device is included with the housing to assure the housing's integrity before entering the water.
The housing comes configured for the Red 18 to 50mm lens. This includes Gates' standard acrylic port SP80. This is a high quality port that is corrected so your lens has the same angle of view underwater as it does on land. The housing allows for other lens options. Gates uses a system of ports, port extenders, bars, shafts, rings and shades in order to utilize lenses by Nikon, Arri, Angineux and many others.
