The MC Transport from Euphonix is a compact media controller for use with both audio and video applications. Loaded with powerful features that help speed up and enhance creative work, the controller features an ultra-high resolution optical jog wheel and shuttle ring, ergonomic transport controls, programmable Soft Keys and integrated numeric key pad.
The controller uses a 100Mbs Ethernet EuCon connection to control audio/video applications running on Mac OS X based computers. EuCon is a high-speed communication protocol and enables control of virtually every application feature with EuCon aware software. The control surface also supports the HUI and Mackie Control protocols, but with a slightly diminished level of integration.
Where multiple applications are open on a computer, the MC Transport automatically detects which application is in the foreground and sets all controls to match that software. The unit is designed to work standalone or as part of a system with up to a single MC Control and 4 MC Mix units for complete audio mixing control with 36 faders. MC Transport, MC Control and MC Mix units clip together or can be situated anywhere on a network, as each has its own Ethernet connection.

Got this after debating for a while but I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger. Works perfectly with FCP 7/ Studio 3, and if you cutomize it - works perfectly with Premiere and After Effects (I only tested cs3, cs4, cs5 but I'd imagine it'd work with any version). I've used Contour Shuttle Pro V2 for a while - but it never took over. It just always felt clumsy and toy-like. Also tried the Bella DV keyboard with the jog wheel. The Euphonix MC Transport is in a completely different class. It has a very large and heavy-yet-silky-smooth jog wheel that really allows you to fine tune. I mainly use it for selects, edits and grading in Color. Only thing I recommend doing is turning down its sensitivity. Once I did that it was PERFECTLY responsive - unlike the Contour Shuttle which always kept playing when I stopped turning the wheel - making it pretty much useless.
So - in short - it's a very capable device that makes editing precisely feel really nice and go much faster than keyboard/mouse combo. I don't have any idea why they don't mention it works in Premiere/AE because once you set it up it works perfectly and I go back and forth a lot between the Adobe suite and the FCP suite.
Hope that helps - definitely recommended.

Unfortunately, this sits on my desk, unused.
I've had the unit now for a couple of months, mainly purchased for Final Cut Pro 7.0 and Reason 4.0.
It lacks support in both. Firstly, it is not explained in documentation that FCP must have the mixer tool opened in order to use the transport shuttle wheel... Next, it doesn't even work in the version 7 of FCP (see my thoughts on this later).
As for Reason, generic play functionality is granted but again no shuttle support.
As the other user said the software is bogus and unpredictable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and crashes in the background. Also, sometimes you'll need to install a core Midi application in system prefs just to get the thing working at all (talking FCP 6.0.6 here)!
Lastly, the last two times I called Euphonix for support both times the rep said "Oh... I don't even have a unit here to test with..."
Frustrating is an understatement.
Earlier this week, I received an email saying they've updated the firmware and still haven't gotten past my frustration to reload their crashware- although this could very well address the FCP 7 issues.
In my book, not ready for prime-time for FCP editors.

Comments about Euphonix MC Transport - Compact Media Controller:
I use this product in my office for Final Cut Pro and Protools. This thing is amazing for sifting and editing footage. There is a learning curve with it but once you are used to where all the hotkeys are you can edit pretty much one handed. The control it gives you over playback is fantastic. The jog and shuttle wheels are way better than clicking your hotkeys a bunch. The Jog for frame by frame is unrivaled control. If you are looking to speed up your editing time this thing is definitely worth it. It also has seamless program switching and you can make it work with any program to do pretty much anything. If you are using other MC products with this one and you are on a wired network you will have to buy a network switch or router. Our office is using the MC Transport with the MC Mix through an Apple Airport Extreme and it works great. It does come with attachable risers that I found puts the Transport at an uncomfortable working height but that is just personal preference.

I was really excited and scared when receiving my MC Transport, my main concern was integration and as well complexity, but immediately after installing the drivers and software (about 5 Minutes) i got to use it, it feels very natural and easy to use, instructions are simple and you can configure it with an incredible level of detail.
Only Con is the size, it is very blocky and you need to make sure you have sufficient table space!

Comments about Euphonix MC Transport - Compact Media Controller:
I'm using the MC Transport with Logic Pro, and I guess EuCon is performing really great with Logic Pro. What's great is obviously the Jog & Shuttle wheel. Specially the Jog wheel, feels really great because it's weighted, so you can throw your time line with one turn and it's very smooth. I can go forward and rewind with precision down to the smpte sub frame.
The buttons feels really nice. But the number pad is a bit stiff. If only the numpad as nice as the other buttons. What's great
The Shuttle, perform really great too.
The a little bit downside is the Jog & Shuttle wheel needs a different sensitivity settings between applications. In Logic I have to set the sensitivity to very low setting, while for FCP it needs to be set to a bit high. Therefore, switching between apps needs a little tweaking on sensitivity settings.
Anyway, great ptoduct !

Comments about Euphonix MC Transport - Compact Media Controller:
The quality of the hardware is great. The software (EuControl) is awful. It crashed on two machines and on one account on a MacPro, it crashes constantly on login. Although you can 'save' custom control settings, they disappear every time EuControl is restarted. Furthermore, EuControl should be an application on the desktop, it should run as a service in the background. The worst: EuSupport. After a month of waiting, still no hope. They are very slow to respond and clearly have limited technical expertise. I'm so frustrated that I'm considering demanding an RMA.

Jog wheel is great, shuttle is so-so. Using this solely on FCP (7) so this speaks only to that software.

I bought this several weeks ago for my my Logic 9 setup and it has helped speed up my recording & editing drastically. You can assign shortcuts to any key which is a big time saver. Punch in's are much easier too.
The only glitch I have found so far is if the computer goes to sleep, you have to relaunch the EuCon software, but other than that...it's perfect.

Comments about Euphonix MC Transport - Compact Media Controller:
The Mc Transport has more uses than I pictured. When I picked up the entire artist series I saw this as the add-on to complete the set. However I have found it to be the most useful of the three. It surface is easy to program however sometimes difficult to remember what you set where. (Hey Euphonix little digital labels for the soft-keys would be great!!) I programmed the buttons on this in minutes for Photoshop to use the job wheel for zooming and quickly switch tools. The number pad hasn't really shown its use as there is one the keyboard which most people are most accustomed to anyways. The EuCon deamon is still a little shaky and needs some work as it dies periodically for no reason. Hopefully that gets ironed out soon. Handy little tool though.. If you live in Final-Cut or Photoshop I definitely recommend this little guy.
