It's a must have if you have for the SLR-Zoom tripod. It also works great just screwing it on to any regular tripod that didn't already have a ball head. My only complaint (why its 4 instead of 5 stars) is that you can't vary the tightness of the ball. Its either locked or completely loose. so when unscrewing the bolt, make sure you have a hand on your camera too. Having a tight, but not locked level of tightness would've been handy.

The ball joint is what I don't quite like, when I loosened it, it was still "stuck" and I had to kinda force it to loosen up, hence it's hard to do any kinda fine tuning which I could do with my other ballheads.
I used it with my Nikon F100 and light lenses like the 50mm/f1.4. I didn't try it with a heavier lens, as I think the Gorillapod may not be strong enough to hold heavier lens with that camera. This ballhead probably can handle it though.

Comments about Joby BH1-01EN Ballhead for the Gorillapod SLR-ZOOM:
This is the same ballhead that you can buy with the Gorillapod SLR Zoom bendable tripod. I bought an extra one to put onto a telescoping hiking staff to make it into a monopod, and I can snap my camera onto either the Gorillapod or monopod. I use it with a Canon 40D and a 17/85mm lens.

You cant tighten the knob to hold the camera steady and then pan. It locks both the camera and the Pan at the same time. the 'X' ballhead has separate knobs for the pan and the lock.

Comments about Joby BH1-01EN Ballhead for the Gorillapod SLR-ZOOM:
Its surprisingly solid and steady for my D300 with an f/2.8 24-70 zoom, even with the MB-10 power pack. I used the Gorilla Pod without the ball head for a week and found that it was difficult the get some of the angles I wanted. Now it's much easier to get the full use of the light tripod and still get easy angles set quickly.

Small, easy to use ball for the gorillapod. Nice slip off feature and level in back. You must tighten knob quite a bit to keep in place because it will slop with a large camera.

After buying and falling in love with my Gorillapod Zoom, I found that it was hard to make adjustments with just the Gorillapod. This ballhead is cheap, reliable, and fluid.

It's the perfect complement to my Gorillapod SLR-Zoom. It's very easy to use, rock solid and quick to release. The bubble level is great when shooting from impossible positions... which is gorilla's specialty

Comments about Joby BH1-01EN Ballhead for the Gorillapod SLR-ZOOM:
I bought this ballhead because as great at the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom tripod is, trying to level and aim your camera by just fiddling with the legs is a pain.
I was hoping for the same build quality of the tripod in the head, and I was not disappointing. It is solid as a rock, easy to loosen, but very firm with minimal torque on the thumbscrew. Supported a Nikon D90 with 18-105mm zoom no with no problems at all. I would highly recommend this product in conjunction with the tripod for a quick, "set up and shoot" solution!

I own a D300 and use the 18-200mm zoom to do time lapse an HDR. I mounted this head on my Gorilla pod and it works well. The head is solid and light. But I would hesitate to put a heavier setup on it.

Comments about Joby BH1-01EN Ballhead for the Gorillapod SLR-ZOOM:
The ballhead is an important addition to the basic Gorilllapod. The strength of the basic tripod is its ability to conform to irregular surfaces but then it is awkward to level the camera. The ballhead solves that problem.
