The Smith-Victor SL270 3-Light 1350 Watt Softlight Video Interview Kit (120-240V AC/12 VDC)provides a 3 point light system that is compact, easy to transport and quick to set up. It includes 2 softlights, a video light, barndoors, bulbs, stands and a wheeled case.
As an alternative to large, clumsy softboxes or umbrellas, the 2- 650 watt Softlights each measure only 9 x 7 x 5" (HxWxD) and provide soft, diffused light from their concealed bulb.
The SV840 Video Light is very versatile. As equipped, it works from 120VAC current with the 10' power cord, and can be stand-mounted with its included adapter. It has integral barndoors for control of the beam. This fixture is excellent for use as a hair light, or background light.
For use on the run, the SV840 can be outfitted with an optional battery pack, such as the BP1-C, BP3, or fanny pack battery systems. The fixture has a swing-out diachronic filter to match daylight outdoors. It can also be used on a video camera's shoe mount by removing the #575 stand adapter.

Comments about Smith-Victor SL270 3-Light 1350 Watt Softlight Video Interview Kit (120-240V AC/12 VDC):
Bought it so I can easily lug to locations for interviews, head shots, and any smaller shoots for photo and video.
It is so lightweight compared to my other lights, saves lot of hassle. And packs in just about same amount of light as my bigger lights. Everything fits into the carrying case.
I only used it for 2 sessions for less than an hour total and one light went off - not sure it's the bulb or circuit.

Comments about Smith-Victor SL270 3-Light 1350 Watt Softlight Video Interview Kit (120-240V AC/12 VDC):
We have a small company and have been looking for a "small" kit. It fits our mock interview needs perfectly. Good quality and best of all the case has rollers for easy transport.

Comments about Smith-Victor SL270 3-Light 1350 Watt Softlight Video Interview Kit (120-240V AC/12 VDC):
I purchased this kit due to its compact size (even when set-up), price, and the included components for videography projects. The soft boxes are durable and actually throw a good wash over the objective area at 20 feet, despite their small apperture. Like the other reviewers, I noticed that the kit smoked a bit at first, but this went away after 10-15 minutes. The only caveat I have is that traditional soft boxes have softer "hot spots", while this one's hot spots are very dense, almost like a fresnel lamp. My very first project with this unit had many highly reflective surfaces at multiple angles in one shot, requiring some tricky lighting adjustments. However if you're not working on reflective surfaces, they're just as good as traditional style units. The added feature of the adjustable spot to highlight areas or give depth to subjects made this a great on-the-go kit for me.

Comments about Smith-Victor SL270 3-Light 1350 Watt Softlight Video Interview Kit (120-240V AC/12 VDC):
I was a bit discouraged by the negative review but these are good lights. They do smoke a bit when you first turn them on due to some packing grease put on them but after about 10 min it stops. The smoke is not offensive nor electrical at all. The stands are good quality and easy to use. Bag is also a lifesaver.

Comments about Smith-Victor SL270 3-Light 1350 Watt Softlight Video Interview Kit (120-240V AC/12 VDC):
I ordered this kit from B&H earlier this month, and upon opening the box, first impressions were actually pretty good. The softcase seemed of good build quality, and had wheels, which was great.Fast forward to an hour later: I was packing the kit back up to be returned to B&H as soon as possible. I frankly can't believe that, [...] Smith-Victor would sell a product like this to the public. Here's what happened:Upon pulling one of the two 600w softlights out the case, I realized that the front of the metal casing was bent in around the OFF-LOW-HIGH dial on the front of light. It was as if someone at the factory had over-tightened the knob onto the casing, and bent the housing. I then discovered that the dial itself was completely broken. When I turned it in any direction, it made a grinding noise and would not turn on the light."We're off to a great start, aren't we?" I thought... Anyway, onto the next 600w softlight. The other softlight's dial and housing seemed to be in tact, so I set up the stand, plugged the light in. Within about 10 seconds, smoke started to rise out of the housing from the bulb. I waited a few more minutes, and it just got worse. It kept smoking and smoking, and pretty soon I had to shut it off as it was starting to get misty in my studio.I had already decided this kit was going back, but just for the heck of it, I setup the small video light, plugged it in, and turned it on. I saw a quick flash and heard a pop... the light bulb burned out. Great.Keep in mind, I use a surge protector power source on a clean outlet. Ive powered lots of sensitive gear on it with no problems. This kit is junk. Even if you manage to get a kit that's not as much of a mess out of the box as mine was, I can't imagine you'd enjoy much good use out of it.I really hope this helps someone!
