The Joby Gorillapod SLR Zoom Tabletop Tripod w/ BH1-01EN Ballhead is a combination of their very strong "SLR-Zoom" model Gorillapod with a perfectly-matched ballhead capable of supporting the weight that the legs can hold well.
The Gorillapod is a watershed item in camera supports, an original which has been extensively copied. Like most times this happens, the original does have some advantages in quality.

Gorillapod has a very good reputation, but I was still skeptical that it could support my D700 with the Nikon 70-300 Zoom.
But, it is more secure and steady than I expected, especially considering the weight I asked it to support. Grips securely onto small tree limbs, fences, door/door knobs, back of chairs, car windows, as well as using it as a tripod with the legs extended.
When using slower shutter speeds, I suggest using a remote trigger or the camera's built-in timer.
Excellent for travel. I wish I had bought this prior to a recent trip to the U.K. I carried a full size tripod around the countryside but could have accomplished 90% of my shots using the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini Tripod.
Get this model that includes the ball-head unless you have a spare ball-head laying around the house. You won't be happy screwing your camera on and off the 1/4" screw each time you want to use it.

Without going into the purposes of why I bought the Gorillapod, I'll start with what the shortcomings were.1) the legs IMO aren't quite long enough to secure the pod to anything larger than say the diameter of your forearm (as a reference). Still very useful for creative angles and positions other pods can't allow for on small tree limbs, chair legs, fence post, etc.If they were just a little longer I think it would allow for a larger wrap giving more stability for DSLR cameras.2) the base plate keeps rotating on the camera body making it difficult to use the built in level. I have to continuously re-tighten the base plate screw. These are built for DSLR camera's, not going to bother me if it has a larger base plate so that it doesn't rotate. 3) its a chore to get all the legs straight again after you wrap the flexible legs around something. There are so many joints on the legs that each one has to be re-straightened - not a quick fix but what else can be done to flexible bendable legs?I do like the product however, it is sturdy for stationery shots, allows for angles you normally couldn't have, very lightweight so it can go with you anywhere. It scuffs up extremely easy[...]I've used mine on one occasion and it has already lost a lot of the coating on all of the gray rubber bumpers up and down the legs.

I use this for Macro shooting, but it really doesn't handle the weight of my Canon T2i w/100 mm Canon macro lens very well.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini Tripod w/ BH1-01EN Ballhead:
Strong enough to support a heavy DSLR with a medium zoom lens. Unsurprisingly, it's not as rigid as a tripod but, with care, will do the job.

We use this tripod with a canon 60D for video shooting.
It's a terrific and super useful item that can help to have steady shots in so many situations.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini Tripod w/ BH1-01EN Ballhead:
I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while as a small portable and versatile tripod. It works even better than I would have expected. I have used it as a basic tripod to shoot long exposures of a stream. It works well because it can basically be placed on the ground. I have also attached it to my deck with a Nikon D90 and 70-300mm VR lens attached trying to capture the birds at my bird feeder. It showed no signs of movement at all. I use a remote release with it, I can see where you might easily introduce some shake if you don't. It can be a bit bouncy.

I've already used this tripod a few times now. I find it easy to use and stable enough. I've first ordered it without the ballhead but I am glad exchange it to the set with a ballhead later, it makes it much easier and practical to use.

Just got this for Christmas. I was abled to attach my Nikon D5100 and 55-300 Zoom and take some fun photos. The Gorillapod held the camera and lens steady with no problems.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini Tripod w/ BH1-01EN Ballhead:
The Gorillapod is an outstanding product. I placed my Olympus E-510 with 70-300mm zoom lens on the ballhead and wrapped the Gorillapod around a half inch diameter pole. The camera-lens combination is very heavy. The pod held the camera combination without any problems. No slippage or wobble.
I was also able to place the combination on an uneven surface. Doing so was more tricky than the pole wrap.
The Gorillapod SLR Zoom has a removable tripod head. The head is very difficult to remove. I was afraid of breaking the bubble level; however, once I learned to grab it correctly it was removed without incident (pull it out by pulling the camera screw backwards).
The Gorillapod fits into the tripod carrying straps on my Tamrac Pro 8 bag, but I worry about breaking the bubble level.

On my Canon 60D with 18-135 this tripod is not steady.
But on lighter cameras will be great.

Very good product. My most recent use was on a trip to NYC where I suspended the gorilla pod horizontally from a glass wall surrounding a rooftop so as to photograph the NYC skyline at night. It worked splendidly! The only weakness is the ball head. It works fine, as long as you position your subject slightly higher than you think is required, because when you tighten the ball head the lens locks ever so slightly lower than you think it will.

This is a great little tripod that can be used in many ways. Table-top, on the ground, wrap the legs around a tree branch or railing, etc. The head is compact, and the quick release is a great feature. I also like the level on the plate. I bought a second head to mount on a hiking staff to make it into a monopod.
I use it with a Canon 40D and a 17/85mm zoom lens. Bendable legs are plenty sturdy for the weight of my camera & lens.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini Tripod w/ BH1-01EN Ballhead:
Just got it and threw it in my camera bag for vacation. Very compact. Works great, but it does take some getting used to. At first, the Gorillapod with my Canon 7D took some adjusting to get it to stand, but after a while (and some curse words) it got it to work just fine. Once the learning curve kicks in, it is a great go-anywhere accessory.

Exactly what I wanted. Small, lightweight, and does the trick. I know I'm the type who would not carry a tripod, so for travel and general use, this is perfect. Sticks about as well as I expected, but can be a bit tricky to set up as the legs move a little more than I'd like (where they meet - the leg joints themselves are very sturdy).

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini Tripod w/ BH1-01EN Ballhead:
After reading many positive users reviews from some online merchants, which far outnumber the negative, I decided to take the plunge and ordered one from BHPhotoVideo for my honeymoon trip. It works as designed. I haven't noticed any issues with leg sagging from the weight of my camera (a Nikon D5100 w/ a 18-55mm/f3.5-5.6 kit lens). It's best used on indoor table tops or placed on flat elevated surfaces. Other than those settings, your photo composition options are rather limited outdoors. I've attempted once to mount the Gorillapod around a hand rail and found it wasn't stable enough so I took it down. All in all, these Gorillapods are good for travel, but don't expect to use them as replacements for an old-school tripod. And one more thing, you're well advised to include a ballhead with your purchase, or you'll find the simple task of leveling your camera an exercise in frustration.

I wanted a light tripod that I could take travelling with me. Usually I don't take one because of their bulk but I wanted to have the stability this time. I don't have the money to purchase a higher quality carbon fibre tripod so went for the Gorillapod. QR plate very handy. Very light and easy to carry around. I just wish it was a bit higher. Found it good getting in the garden and down on the ground for some macro photography
