Comments about Nexto DI 500 GB NVS2500 Video Storage Pro:
You are very clearly paying for the Sony SxS slot on this device.
Considering you could get a portable hard drive that downloads CompactFlash cards between $170 and $500 (DigitalFoci, Epson) and all with more features, the Nexto is not a deal.
However, if you have a Sony EX Camera, this is a mandatory investment. I used to forfeit my lunch breaks to download footage to the laptop just to clear cards for the afternoon. Then, I'd have to stay late to download again. This will save me hours of time.
I only purchased because it was on sale and I have a shoot where a laptop is not an option.

The power button can be a bit slow and sensitive.

Comments about Nexto DI 500 GB NVS2500 Video Storage Pro:
This device is everything the P2 store should have been. The menu driven interface is drop-dead easy. As such, the learning curve for our PA staff is nonexistent. The design is rugged. We shoot with P2, SxS and SD cards so having one box handle all is very convenient. The flexible power options, multiple data interfaces, and ability to view clips make this a MUST HAVE for anyone shooting to solid state media in the field. These guys studied what we do and they got it right with this design. My wish list is a matching drive that connects directly for dual backups. P2 Card adapter could become flimsy over time. Otherwise, this is a lot of backup power, and it fits in my back pocket. Very cool box.

Comments about Nexto DI 500 GB NVS2500 Video Storage Pro:
The device work great, Some (software) functions are missing...
1. There is option to copy folder from internal HDD back or to CF/SD/MS, But basic option copy folder to external HDD are missing and it's more nessery then copy back/to memory card.
2. Internal HDD not support format extFAT, It's mean if you want backup content from external HDD formated extFAT you can do it if you got there files more then 4GB.
3. The option to copy to external HDD formated NTFS is missing (The device not work with HDD NTFS formated), It's mean if someone bring HDD to copy him matterials you must format him device... If he have another stuff on him it's make it problem...
* I'll recommend the product to friends but will present problems.

Comments about Nexto DI 500 GB NVS2500 Video Storage Pro:
Having made to switch from tape to card based cameras (Sony PMW-350) this is a must have bit of kit. There are some minor annoyances but nothing that detracts from it's overall usefulness.
The ability to make two copies at once is really great (one to the unit & another to a separate hard drive) but the Nexto's battery can't power the external drive so you need to rig up another battery/power source - doable but the extra cables & battery is aggravating.
I had been hoping to use the Nexto as a preview unit but it doesn't play the video at standard speed - it is either slow or fast. Fine for a confidence check but that is about all. There is also no headphone out or speaker so you can't check audio.
I am shooting XDCam EX to 3rd party card adapters - these can't be read in the SxS slot. You have to remove the SDHC from the adapter to put it in the Nexto - not a big problem, just another minor annoyance.
Despite my whinges, I would hate to go on a shoot without my Nexto.

Comments about Nexto DI 500 GB NVS2500 Video Storage Pro:
I love this for backups. Our workflow is primarily P2. We use 32GB cards. The off load speed is incredible and haven't had any mshaps yet. I just returned from an overseas shoot and we used P2 and SLR video formats. All content was backed up and mirrored perfectly on additional bus powered USB drives. The 2500 must be plugged in to power the external sync drive. It's been flawless so far. It took awhile to justify the price but from day one it has preformed far better then any laptop setup.
