This 4 leaf barndoor set snaps directly onto the front of the SP Systems SP72 slave flash.
Barndoors, Snoots, Grids, and Filters are essential accessories for any lighting system. These devices alter the shape, intensity, or color of the light output from your flash heads. Consider them as a painter would a brush, or a sculptor would a knife, or chisel.
Use of a barndoor set will result in a shaft of light, when it is attached to the front of the reflector of your light source. The size of the shaft of light will be determined by the opening of the leaves, and the distance of the light from the subject. Rotating the barndoor set will determine the angle of the shaft of light. A 4-leaf barndoor provides more light control than a 2-leaf barndoor set.

I've been using canvas snoots with my 580ex, however for the price, I found the barndoors a better value. I bought three.
I recently used the barndoors for a poorly lit runway show. I had two 580ex II flashes on the left and right of the end of the runway. The barndoors allowed me to flag to reduce flare and control the shadows on the floor.
It fits the 580ex II quite snugly and the screw is covered by a rubber foot that protects the flash from being scratched. They look very professional on my flashes and fold up nicely.
This modifier should be in every strobist bag!

I use these barn doors on my Nikon SB-800's to allow me more light control over the throw of the light produced by the strobes.
They are excellent for this use. They give me the ability to make my strobes behave like bigger studio flashes in situation when I have to travel light but need specific control over my light.
The only down side is they don't fit/mount perfectly. To overcome this I've build a custom rubber strap/fitting that allows me to fit them without hassle.
For the little bit of DIY it provides a excellent platform to mold the light from a easily maneuverable off camera strobe.

Comments about SP Studio Systems 4 Leaf Barndoor Set for SP72:
I'm going to assume some of this was my fault. I thought I had read that this barn door set would fit onto my SB600 and SB900 Speedlight Flash Units. Neither one fit! The available edge for insert was roughly 1/2" and would not have held in place for any flash (or at least it does not seem possible to me). I considered sending it back, but I really needed for a project this past week.
Improvised I did. I took a styrofoam pad and tucked it on the side and tightened the ONE Screw all the way. It would have fallen off without a bit more support. So I also took a rubbe rband and looped it around one door and hinge, over the top and backside of flash head under the swivel head part of the flash and looped over the opposite barn door side. It worked like a charm. And I felt much more secure just knowing it would not fall off when tilted forward.
Wish I could have given it a better review. But then again, it could have been I just ordered the wrong one for my needs.

This product is very nice to use when you want to restrict the light from going everywhere. The only things that is more challenging is to fix it to your flash with scratching or marking your flash.

The leafs are so thin, you can bend them with your fingers.
On the other hand, the system just works. I actually used it as a light control on a small HMI video light with custom mount (can't use its original plastic mount on a hot light), and the barndoors worked well - including holding in place with their little hinges.
Given the price, I think the system is OK and it deserves 4 stars.

Excellent for the price. Shape the light from your speedlight. Saw this in action with a pro photographer and realised how handy this is. Ordered it the same day

Works nicely to shape the light from your speedlight. Saves me from having to tape/velcro bits of paper or plastic to my flash.
The base is made of strong, thick plastic, while the 'doors' are thin metal. The doors are attached to the base with sturdy hinges which provides almost 270 degrees of travel (fully closed/flush to completely out of the way).
Fits perfectly around the head of my Canon 580EX, and with a little bit of work, will fit over a Nikon SB26 too. There are two pieces of soft rubber on the inner circular surface where your flash head attaches, providing a nice snug fit and keeps your flash scratch free.

I got these to go with my speed lights but also made an adapter to use them with my continuous lights in product photography as well. They work great and are a great value.

I'd say it does what it's mean't to do which is block and or direct light. I wound up scratching my sb900 which was a bit too fat for this but if you put some gaffer's tape around it you shouldn't have an issue like I did, other then that works great.

Such a simple item that opens up unlimited possibilities. Folds up small and compact, no problem fitting in my camera bag. Nice job of controlling light on my 580ex and older SB Nikon flashes.
Attachment on the 580ex was tight the first few times from the rubber on the flashes side. After a few uses everything works fine. No fit problems on the SB 24 or 25 series.
Don't think twice about ordering one, just do it, took over 6 months to finally pick up two as they sell out so fast.

This seems to be a very nice product. I have not gotten to use it yet as it did not fit my SB-600 as I hoped. I do like the quality of it and how it works. I'll be doing some work to make this fit as I think it will be a great addition to my bag of lighting tools.

Excellent way to control light, to get that spot, highlight, keylight, or any other effect.
Light, compact, quite durable, very effective (think movie set light control). And, the best value for the money.
Mount something reflective (foil) on the inside of one or more of the panels (barn doors) and adjust angles as needed for a unique bounce. Or, simply use as is, for directing, narrowing, and generally cntrolling the light spread/beam.

Comments about SP Studio Systems 4 Leaf Barndoor Set for SP72:
I had to give this product 4 stars even though currently I cannot use it with my 580ex II flash because it is well constructed and very reasonably priced.
The reason I can't use it is because I have thin strips of velcro all the way round my flash used for attaching gels and other light modifiers which makes my flash head just that little bit too big. Without the velcro i'm sure it would be a perfect snug fit. Trying to squeeze my flash into it results in messing up the velcro so i'm busy thinking up a workaround!
I would recomment this to a friend if their flash was not velcroed!
