First, let it be noted that I wanted to give this camera a 4.5 stars rating; however, I had to choose either 4 stars or 5 so I went with 4.
Overall, I think this is a fantastic camera for the price. Some features that I particularly love about this camera are:
(1) the EXR mode. The technology works well (see note below aon AUTO EXR mode);
(2) excellent zoom capabilities; not the best range of the ultra compacts but it has been excellent in my use of shooting pictures at parks, of the lake/river/ocean scenes near Charleston, SC, and of people, including many shots at/near twilight AND indoors;
(3) Pro-Light and Pro-Focus modes very useful to capture subjects in low light and to create dSLR-like effects. (While I cannot always get the Pro-Focus mode to work it does so by taking three consecutive images and blurring the background compared to the subject to make professional-looking pictures; ALSO, has 9 other useful scenes, including landscapes and photos which work fantastic!
(4) Great image quality.
Some features that I do not like are :
(1) Image stabilization is unacceptable when using manual setting to slow shutter speed (or I just drink too much coffee); otherwise, image stabalization is okay, but still not the camera's strong point
(2) No HD movie mode
(3) in certain modes (for example Pro Low-Light mode) the manual controls cannot be changed. When manual controls can be changed there are only pre-set values to choose from.
(4) Some advanced features require specific conditions - mainly I am referring to two things here (i) the Pro-Focus Mode requires that there be a suitable distance between the subject and the background, which seems to be at least 6-8 feet from what I can tell. If the background is closer than this you will get an error message; (ii) the Pro Low-Light mode requires you to hold the camera fairly still while it take four consecutive images. It then blends them together using the novel EXR sensor/technology . Generally this works well. However, as I said above the Image stabilization seems to be poor. Also, this requires that no subjects be moving as four pictures are taken to be blended.
The camera is very easy to use and the menus are easy to navigate. The user can switch between modes relatively quickly and easily using a dial on the upper right on the back of the camera. After choosing a mode it is fairly easy to make changes. One thing I really like is the ability to choose different backgrounds for your pictures including black-and-white, sepia tone (looks like an old newspaper), soft tones, and vivid colors.
The new EXR technology is impressive. While the AUTO EXR mode does a fairly decent job for the person wishing to simply pick up the camera and take pictures, I found that the results were better by manually choosing the EXR mode. (And sometimes the PRO Low-Light mode works better depending on your scene).
While the lack of HD movie is disappointing, the movie mode is acceptable for someone looking for a camera with occassional video (versus, a camcorder with occasional pictures). Don't get me wrong - I love this camera. However, I am only trying to be fair in stating that some other cameras (like the Panasonic TZ3 and I believe the Sony H-20, but don't quote me on the Sony) have similar specs/features AND they also have an HD movie mode.
Personally, what won me over was the small compact camera coupled with the new technology. While this camera doesn't rank near expensive dSLR cameras (I'm using the word expensive RELATIVE to the price of the F70), it is great for the price. On top of that it fits in my jeans pocket (might not if you wear really tight jeans), and it does take great pictures. Also, I actually like the design. Some reviewers have knocked the design claiming it is basic, not very stylish, or too much like the EXR 200. I happen to think it is nice (albeit simple).
Overall, it is a great camera for the price. For the person looking to shoot a wide variety of subjects (including people and nature) that will often encounter tough lighting conditions (indoor and low-light) you can go wrong with this camera.
I will also say that if low light/indoor photos were not important to me then I would have went with the Panasonic ZS3. And if there was a better zoom of the new Sony TX-1 I would have waited for the reviews on that before purchasing this camera :)

I wanted a small, compact camera that was good in low light. After reading many reviews and doing a lot of research I ordered the Finepix F70EXR (I got greedy and wanted the 10x zoom too). The zoom was nice and the Dynamic Range function of the camera worked very well. However, in low light the camera performed poorly. The noise reduction built into the camera turned the images more or less to mush, with lots of smudging. In normal mode the images were well over-exposed with the whites entirely blown out. To be fair, there was a burnt out pixel so maybe the camera was defective overall. The DR mode was nice but that was about it.

Maybe I just got a dud, but this camera does not actually focus on the spot centered in the focus region. I have had the camera for a little over a month and have taken several hundred pictures. Almost all of them are out of focus. It's not camera shake because I get the same results using a tripod. It doesn't seem quite as bad with higher zoom. I was really looking forward to having a quality high zoom compact camera, but I feel as if I have wasted my money on this camera.

My husband did his homework and researched several small cameras before purchasing this one for me. It is very easy to use with several pre-programed modes, yet the camera also allows me to set the aperture and make adjustments as needed. The user interface and buttons are a 10 in my book - it feels and looks great! The best part about this camera is it's ability to take GREAT shots in low light! The screen is large, bright and clear. The only surprise that I had was when I lifted it out of the box, the camera was slightly heavier than I had expected. I just picked up several prints today and they were excellent quality! Thanks Fuji for a great camera!!

We bought this for our honeymoon trip to Italy after reading David Pogue's review in the NYT. It is a wonderful camera even if you don't use all the fancy settings. I recommend spending the 30 min it will take you to go thru the user's manual, but you can just leave it on the "EXR" setting and it will do all the work for you. Great landscape pictures in low light, as well as no-flash photos in low light. Highly recommend!
We haven't tried the video yet so I can't evaluate it.

I love this little camera! It takes great photos, I am waiting for spring to get here so I can use it outside more. The pictures are sharp and the camera autofocuses quickly, a lot quicker than other point and shoots I've owned. I found the menus/controls easy to use, although a bit of practice is in order to attain a comfort level. I love the zoom range for this little camera, it was one reason I purchased it over the more expensive F200EXR.
My cons for this camera: no HD video, and short battery life. Using the zoom really drains the battery on this camera.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F70EXR Digital Camera:
I am a full time professional photographer, and I wanted a "portable" camera to have with me at all times, especially away from the studio. The images from the F70EXR are simply stunning! So many times I have been out and wanted to exercise the creative side of my brain, and this is just the tool to do it with. The zoom takes a little bit of getting used to, it moves kind of fast. I thought I would be using only the manual features for exposure due to the fact that I am "old school", but the automation is fantastic! It really frees your mind to let the creativity flow. The images in low light are a little noisy, but that is to be expected, I believe. It doesn't take away from the image. Even back in the film days I always kind of liked the effect of some grain in low light photos, it adds a bit of a photo journalistic style to the images, but that is my personal opinion. the 10x zoom is unbelievable! There is a bit of a learning curve with this camera so I don't know if I would recommend it to anyone who just wants a "point and shoot", but for someone with any true interest in photography and its workings, this little camera is just the ticket.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F70EXR Digital Camera:
I use the camera mostly for either indoor portraits or outdoor scenery. In the EXR mode it does a fine job, but at times INDOORS I switched it to Auto mode and lowered the ISO to 400. I did not care for the ISO 1600 indoors when it defaults to that, but in Auto mode you can limit ISO to either 800 or 400 and it's fine. At times 800 is better, other times 400, depending on lighting. The up close shots are nice with nice detail and the camera has good resolution. It's not one you should leave in EXR mode at all times, so there is some thought that will go into getting the best pictures in various situations. But the quality is there and it's a well built camera. You might want a spare battery, but they are affordable. (I did a LOT of reviewing so that uses up the battery quicker than just taking photos.)

My last point-n-shoot camera was a 2mp Fuji, so when I was in the market for a new one ( I have two Pentax DSLRS) I wanted to get a Fuji again since I had such a great experience with the old one.
Great camera, manual controls (although a little hard to adjust the shutter/aperture, still trying to get a hang of it), you can zoom in video mode, it has sound in movie mode too. Auto modes can be noisy (sets it to 1600 automatically sometimes), but in EXR mode you can lower the ISO. 1600iso is barely usable btw. Very watercolor-like.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F70EXR Digital Camera:
As always with Fuji's FinePix line, you get always great pictures even in tough lighting conditions due to the magic of their special sensors.
I'm upgrading from the F10, and this is a touch smaller even though it has a 10x zoom. The zoom works great in combination with the image stabilization; even at full zoom my images are almost always sharp. The macro mode also works great and nets me some of my best photos.
The bad: the battery's dinky; you'll be charging it every few days, or buying spare batteries. The zoom seems to hunt a fair amount. The auto-focus will occasionally grab something in the foreground when it shouldn't.
All in all, this is a great pocket camera. I'd give it 5 stars if it took higher res video, had a shorter lag, or a bigger battery. It's really close even without them.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F70EXR Digital Camera:
I was looking for a compact digital camera that could provide reasonably high quality images for situations where I didn't want to lug around my DSLR. I've been spoiled by my Nikon D90 SLR with the 18-200mm zoom lens and wanted a pocket camera with similar zoom range and decent low-light capability. The F70EXR is as close as it gets to this range of capability and it's quite affordable too.
The inherent low light, high-ISO capability is very good for a compact camera, allowing me to shoot at ISO 800 and produce very decent images. Additionally, the "pro low-light mode" which automatically takes several shots and produces a single composite image at 5MP is quite amazing for still subjects. The Image Stabilization system in this camera helps immensely too.
The long zoom range lens is the near equivalent to my beloved Nikon 18-200 DX lens in terms of range. You can capture wide to long telephoto shots with ease and the camera zooms quietly and quickly. The quality of the lens is quite good for a compact camera (sharp images w/ high contrast & minimal distortion). The only downside to the long zoom is the relatively slow aperture at the long end of the zoom. Low light autofocus is poor at 2/3 to full zoom and there is no manual focus option to override this. This is no worse than other compact cameras and most of the low-light champs like the Canon S90 don't reach this far day or night.
This camera has numerous settings and features that permit both automatic and manual operation. This wealth of options is also one of this camera's shortcomings - complexity...
The array of shooting modes are not organized too logically as Fuji groups some settings under their EXR mode position and other settings under scene modes. If you take the time to digest all your options and have a decent idea how you'd like to use all the options you can preset several of your favorite modes and quickly select your favorite options with the mode dial. I'm still determining what works best for me but do bear in mind if you want to exploit all the capability of this camera, there is a learning curve.
The design and build-quality of this camera is top-notch. It feel solid and all the controls operate with precision. It's a beautiful object to hold and admire, especially considering the reasonable price.
I think this is the best compact camera value in the market right now for people willing to dig-in, learn and exploit its potential.

I carry this camera with me all the time. I like that it has the 10X zoom. It's handy when I don't have my DSLR with me. I really like the EXR features and find that I use them mostly for snapshots at family get-togethers. My pictures turn out great. When using EXR, two of the EXR modes will lower the resolution so when full 10MP resolution is wanted settings will need to be adjusted. I like the Pro-focus mode which simulates the blurred background created with a DSLR in f2.8. I am happy with this little camera.

I just received this camera and am very pleased with it. It is very easy to use and the pictures are superb. The size is exactly what I was looking for. I am looking forward to trying out all of the features. The pictures are great in low light, which is very important to me. I was disappointed to see that the manual is only on CD and cannot be taken with me, since it is new to me and I must learn all of the functions. Also the battery has several quirky features as described in the manual.
