I've owned a number of earlier Panasonic SuperZoom bridge cameras and have enjoyed them all, but the FZ35 is a whole different animal.
The earlier FZ28 model was a wonderful all round camera and the FZ35 is physically the same animal with the addition of a larger (12 MP) sensor and the capability for shooting HDTV movies. It is similar to the FZ28 in that it has the same viewfinder, Leica designed lens and overall control system.
But for me the BIG difference in the FZ35 is the new P.O.I.S or Power Optical Image Stabilization system which replaces the Mega OIS system on the FZ28. It is unbelieveable.
After I got the FZ35, I spent a week shooting with it in Paris. I did a lot of night shots and began to notice that I was getting incredibly sharp pictures at night using ISO speeds of just 200 and 400. My usual exposure time was 1/20th of a second and I was shooting handheld. And I was getting totally sharp to the bone, un-blurred-pictures. I began to shoot more at night, realizing that the POIS was opening up a whole new world of night photography. Wow!
At ISO speeds below 400 the images produced by the FZ35 are of professional quality, the kind you'd expect from a midrange dSLR. And I personally believe that it outperforms many entry level dSLRs in image quality.
Packing 12MP on a small sensor does mean that higher ISO speeds images will be grainy and not as good as a dSLR, with a larger sensor, produces but these images are still acceptable.
The non-interchangeable superzoom lens is remarkably sharp thoughout its range and I am surprised at how often I'm shooting at the extreme telephoto (486mm) end of its range.
As for the HDTV capability, well, it leaves me cold. It is fun to shoot the occassional movie clip but if I wanted to make movies I'd buy a camcorder. Buy the FZ35 for its still photo power rather than as a semi-demi-maybe movie camera.
All in all this is a lightweight state-of-the-art camera that produces extraordinary results and it is sold for less then the price of single dSLR lens.

I love my Lumix FZ35, but Panasonic is a very poor company for customer service or support. The camera is set to capture AVCHD format videos, but Panasonic does not have software included with the camera to use those videos. You are pretty much stuck with just viewing the videos on your computer. None of the software supplied will convert or edit those AVCHD videos. If you buy the camera, make sure you change the video capture to motion jpeg capture. And also, if you call Panasonic up about any issues with the camera, don't expect very good service - since their phone support is terrible - with disconnects and static on the phone lines. And when I did get through about the AVCHD video problem, they pretty much said - "we cannot help you"

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 Digital Camera:
Fairly easy to use. Managed to get around the basics of the camera without reading the manual. Going to need to read the manual to figure out the rest. Just went on a trip to Alaska after receiving the camera. Took some amazing shots that once I loaded them on the computer got me very excited. I was able to crop and enlarge many shots of whales and other animals and they were still remarkably clear. The good zoom helped also. You can get incredible clear detail with the macro at extremely close range. I did have trouble getting the camera to focus on small objects as it kept going for the background. I probably need to read the manual and there probably is something to assist in that. The colors came out fairly true and it handled different lighting fairly well if you found the right setting. I had many comments on my photos from people and I didn't do much more than point and shoot. I would definitely recommend this to anybody wanting a good camera but can't buy an expensive SLR with lenses.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 Digital Camera:
The FZ35 is a great little super zoom (if you can still find one for sale). Very light and easy to manage, with excellent ergonomics. The image quality is very high too (though if you compare it to a really good DSLR at many times the price, you will notice some noise in the shadows and such, and of course it won't do as well with high ISO and RAW files). Overall, a very impressive product, outstandingly well balanced, with great features and functionality.

I use the camera for portrait (indoor and outdoor) and landscape. The camera is fast (both turning on and focus speed). I checked it against a Canon 60D and FZ35 was much faster that the DSLR. Of course I used the Canon on Live View :))
The camera is not so great on Low Light situations, but there are many ways to overcome this issue.
Also, I don't like that I cannot do too many photos on burst, even with a very fast card. I might be a limitation in the camera.

The camera is easy to handle, small, easy to use. The approach to the different functions is very intuitive making it really easy to make the most of them. The lens is absolutely great, with amazing accuracy and a fine luminosity. The video is also very good although the video player is not that easy to use.
In all, a very smart purchase!

I bought this camera to use for family photos, especially of Grandchildren in their sporting events as they get older. Also planned to use it for scenery and some wildlife snapshots.
What I like is the 18x power zoom lenses and the simplicity of use without having to change lenses or settings each time I take a picture.
So far I haven't found anything I don't like about this camera, though I have only had it for about a month.

I haven't needed to refer to operational manual or any other tosh. Started using it straight away - really easy to use - I am technologically dyslexic - so this is ideal. Looking forward to using it from now on. Advice at B&H was spot on - thanks

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 Digital Camera:
I used it mainly for action shots. Just like any other camera you have to get used to the shutter time to get the pics you want, so practice a bit before taking shots. I do parkour and a bit of free running and like to take pics of friends, video is pretty decent and if you don't need super high quality this will suit you just fine.
Pretty tough guy(i've owned it for over a year now), I've taken it to Europe, Vegas, California, and Hawaii...and it still takes pics like new. I rarely clean it and still have 100% functionality. I've dropped it, take pics with it in the rain, scratched it up a bit, and it still does fine. The different scene shots it can take are fun to play around with. Did a neat little light painting art project with the starry night one.
Pro's
-tough (will survive elements)
-decent quality pics (compared to slrs, sometimes even on par with slrs)
-easy to use
-decent battery life (1 full day of shooting)
-great value
-decent zoom
-large LCD screen
-decent video (audio is better then average)
-good selection of shooting modes
-pretty good for action shots, above average (for price range)on stills, fun diff modes for artsy and silly pics
con's
-poor in low light (standard for this price range)
-you should get a cheap tripod unless you go steady hands
-not much manual control
-flash too bright, wish I could adjust it so I don't blind people.

Not yet found anything "not so great" about it. Satisfies all my requirements for multiple scenario use. Dark spaces in and outdoors, 'extra-zoomability',
good stereo mic, high def vids, user friendly features/easy to figure out (I haven't really 'read' the manual yet), it's not cumbersome, and the price was right! Thanks for the great customer help that lead me to THIS decision (I must have compared at least 20 cameras). Not a gift. Tracked this one down on my own!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 Digital Camera:
I purchased this camera for personal use, mainly for travel and family photos. I've only had it a short time (less than a month), and haven't yet familiarized myself with all of its features, but I've used it enough to form certain opinions.
The good: I love the 18X zoom. The image stabilization allows me to use it handheld in most situations.
I like that there is a viewfinder, but I wish there was an eyecup to keep out stray light. I like that the viewfinder and the LCD screen provide 100% image coverage.
The lens is fast enough to allow me to shoot without flash in most situations.
I appreciate the threaded lens barrel, which allows me to protect the lens with a UV filter.
I find the image sharpness to be excellent (this is my perception, without scrutinizing the photos at the pixel level).
The not so good: I think the camera is too light. Some may feel that this is a good feature, but it's more difficult to hold steady when it's this light, and generally feels like a toy. I would have appreciated more metal and less plastic in its construction.
The battery is specified to provide over 400 photos on a charge, but after only 110 photos, my battery charge indicator is on its last bar. Admittedly, being a new camera, I spent a large amount of time fiddling with the settings in the menu, which used the battery more than usual. I'd expect more photos per charge in the future.
I don't like that the lens cap locks onto the outer lens barrel. If you forget to remove it when turning the camera on, the lens hits it and generates a warning (yes, I've already done that!). This can't be good for the zoom mechanism. It would be better if the lens cap was a friction fit over the outside of the barrel - then it could just be pushed off by the extending lens.
The LCD is not articulated, and washes out in bright sunlight. The position of the LCD makes nose prints unavoidable when using the viewfinder.
There's no printed manual. If you print the manual from the CD, the lack of an index (as distinguished from just a Table of Contents) makes finding specific items a slow process.
