I've bought three G-Drive's in the past two years ... the first used to produce both video and still imagery of the war in Afghanistan May 2008-2009.
Now, on my second tour in Afghanistan, I've brought two more with me. I've never had an issue with any of the drives.
Quick story: I decided to purchase the first G-Drive while in the departure "lounge" of Kabul Int'l Airport the summer of 2008. At the time, a free-lance videographer/journalist was making his rounds throughout the theater covering the war and, being the ever inquisitive type, I asked what he was using for media storage. He pulled out a G-Drive.
Anyway, my initial G-Drive has been with me on trips to Afghanistan, Turkey, Thailand, Dubai, India and stateside. Zero issues!
Uses: Video and still imagery production. Used with Apple FCP, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Media Encoder etc.
Note: I use a Canon XH A1 HD camcorder and Nikon D3, capturing video and stills through my Mac Pro laptop.
Cons: I'm not sure there are any at this point.

Buyer Beware: you can NOT set this up as a mirrored RAID/RAID-1 setup. Even though it has two drives, you can NOT configure it to set it up as a mirror.
The ONLY reason you should buy this drive is if you need major speed, otherwise stay away. Having your data split onto 2 drives in the default RAID-0 is very risky because if one drive dies, the data on the second drive becomes useless.
It's also pretty loud.

I use these drives for Windows - they don't work right out of the box, but once you format them everything is fine. They are fast with my eSATA connection. The light on the front is a bit bright though. Formatting

Comments about G-Technology 2TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
I bought this drive to store video for editing jobs. You can set it up for 0 or 1 Raid. I went back and forth trying to decide whether I wanted performance over safety. I finally decided to format it for 1 Raid which gives me peace of mind but I lost a whole gig of space. It wa a big sacrifice but I think will be worth it.

Purchased 9/12/11. As of 11/15 I had problems with the drive. The company would only replace a refurbish drive.
Plus you have to pay for packaging and shipping to return the defective product. had the drive for 2 months an I and could be you, are not entitle to a new one. I will never purchase a G-Technology again. Think before you do.

Excellent hard drive, amazingly quiet, great looks. So far is been up to the task at hand editing HD video with a Mac Pro and storage as well. Only reason to give 4 stars is the light on the front is too big and bright unlike the one on Mac Pro.

Comments about G-Technology 2TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
I got this drive because a colleague of mine recommended it to me. In the past i have used Lacie drives, and have recently run into problems with them. My friend recommended these drives and said he had never had a problem with them and so far so good. I just finished a 3 week boat shoot in Michigan were we shot over 500gb of raw photos. We used this drive as or master back up for all our portable hard drives and not a single file was lost. Needless to say im very pleased.

I had 2 G-raids and both of them stopped working after a few months,I had a very hard time to back up the informations and paid alot of money... First one faild for no reason I bought the second one to back up the first one , then second one faild I bought the third one for backing up the second one. when you call G-Technology they give you two phone numbers which is drive savers and they say that is all we can do for you ( what do you mean!!! I am a photographer and put all of my hard work in the G-raids and pay a lot of money for it , all of the sudden it burns or doesn't work??? how about all the work I did for my clinets and put it in the G-raid for back up and now I CAN NOT access it !! THIS IS RIDICULES. .For sure this WAS my last try with this company.

We got two of these drives to shuttle files around between computers and other larger storage drives. These work perfectly acting as an intermediary drive and are easy to setup and use. A great product from G-Technology.

Comments about G-Technology 2TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
This is my third G-RAID over the course of six years. Not because they have ever failed me, but because I have purchased new ones for different uses and simply for additional space. I love this product.
My first two G-RAIDS were used in a video editing environment. I enjoyed the speed of two drives working together, and rarely experienced any lag on the drive's part. My second drive did experience one defect with the power supply, which was promptly resolved by G-Technology and their awesome 3-year warranty. I was able to send the entire drive in and they didn't have to erase my data. Cool.
In the older models, I was bothered by the rubber feet that eventually began to shift, as they were glued onto the metal surface. This problem has been resolved in the new model by actually gluing them into a recess, leaving no room to shift. I trust that they'll stay put now.
One thing that hasn't changed is the aesthetic quality of the device. It's just a drop-dead gorgeous accessory, especially next to the Mac Pro (or any aluminum-based Mac). The LED light on the front of the new drive is fuller and brighter, conveying power and confidence. -That sounds like an exaggeration, but I do not lie. Seeing it sitting right next to my older model, I can say with confidence that it is MUCH brighter.
G-Technology includes all the cables that the drive uses. THIS is awesome. Nerds who need drives like these love spare cables. Even though I don't own an ESATA card, I like that I have the cable, just in case I feel like picking one up. The power cable is much smaller, and no longer uses that awkward S-Video looking plug in the back. It's a simple, round, plug-in-without-looking cable. Very nice.
Instead of a power switch, it's a press-and-hold button. I am probably fairly neutral on this change, as I do prefer the tactile feel of flipping a switch, but also approve of it's requiring that you hold it down for several seconds before it will switch on or off. I don't like the idea of accidentally powering that thing off by accident, and apparently neither does G-Technology. Additionally, the drive boots and wakes faster. Even a couple seconds difference somehow means the world to us these days.
I opted for the 2TB model, as it was only about $30 more than the 2TB G-Drive. The RAID allows me the option of a 1TB redundancy, meaning if one drive happens to fail (which is ALWAYS a possibility no matter who made the device), I'll have an exact copy to retrieve my data from.
Overall, I have little to complain about from this drive. If you're looking for something versatile, robust, and yet still portable when you really need to move around (granted you have access to an outlet), this is a good option.

Use the drive for video editing and playback. Never have to worry about it. Never had a G-Drive go down. It's plenty fast enough for Pro Res 422 HD playback, which is most of what I do.
