The Pentax K-x Digital SLR incorporates advanced DSLR features - including Live View and HD 720p video - in a very capable entry-level camera for those looking to step beyond the limitations of point-and-shoot digicams. The compact Pentax K-x makes the transition to a 'serious' camera system with interchangeable lenses easy and painless.
The Pentax K-x contains a 12.4-megapixel APS-C format CMOS sensor that incorporates a sensor-shift Shake Reduction System that allows you to hand-hold the camera at shutter speeds up to 4-stops slower than normal under low-light situations and still maintain image sharpness. Aside from the K-x's bright optical finder, you can also compose images in Live View mode using the camera's 2.7" LCD.
Despite the K-x's entry-level price point, still images can be captured at a fast 4.7 frames-per-second at shutter speeds up to 1/6000th-second as JPEGs or RAW files. And along with conventional still imaging, you can also capture wide-screen, full resolution 720p (1280x720) HD video at 24fps using the full range of Pentax optics. For travel or everyday family events, the Pentax K-x makes for an ideal imaging companion.
Other advanced features found on the Pentax K-x include an 11-point, wide-angle SAFOX VIII autofocus system, a variety of automatic and manual scene modes, and a True High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature that captures a series of 3 bracketed images and combines them into a single optimized image with a full range of highlight, midrange, and shadow detail.
The Pentax K-x can capture up to 1900 exposures on a set of AA lithium batteries and is also compatible with AA NiMH and alkaline batteries.
This kit includes the Pentax K-x body with the Pentax 18-55mm AL and 50-200mm AL zoom lenses.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 50-200mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
I won't go into the already known pro's and con's of this camera for others in its price point.
The camera is easy, takes great pictures and is just plain fun to use. Nothing compares to it at it's price point.

I was pleasently surprised when I received my camera and lens kit[...]the camera is just phenominal. Dad has been a Pentax user for 25 years with his studio and it was only natural that I get on board. [...]

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 50-200mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
I use this for my college level photography course. I needed a camera that had all of the features that my class required, and also fit under a shoestring budget. Fortunate enough, the K-x has fulfilled all of my needs. It is reasonably priced, and the extra lens has been extremely useful. For a first time dSLR user, it has been pretty easy to use, with careful study of the manual. It is very light and fits comfortably in my hands, which is important to me since I have small hands (I am a girl). Its not bulky, and the LCD is great. I only wish that it was swivel screen, but for the price, I have no problem dealing with it. I would also recommend using a tripod with it, unless you can find the sweet spot with shutter speed and aperture. My hands tend to shake, so it takes a few extra shots until I can get a nice, clear one.

Sunset photos are great and its easy to change the settings, battery life seems good and AAs make a fast and easy switch. Lenses are easy to switch out and an easy storage container is a beer cozy for them(padded). Functionality fits the price and the quality is good.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 50-200mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
I've been on photography, the now so called "analog", for many years, and decided to try on digital. Took this offer mainly for the price and the chance to have two lenses. The camera came with a major flaw: the wheel thingy used for changing parameters as Shutter speed and so, didn't work at all. Reading on the web found out that many K-x come with this problem !!!! but the cure, simple and unexpensive that is also going on the web worked perfectly.
Right now im very happy with it, im travelling on Europe and it is behaving sweet: love the way you can customize the photo BEFORE taking it, so i dont need anymore photosh.. for adjusting contrast, etc. Also, the wide white balance selection is great. So, is a great camera to start on this new digital world for me.

I was looking for a entry level DSLR and was recommended from a friend to get a Pentax. The price is great for this camera body and two lenses. I searched a long time on the internet for a good deal and ended up at BH Photo upon recommendation from a friend and am not disappointed. This is the best price all around. The one reason that I picked a Pentax was the fact that all thier lenses fit, so a lense from 20 years ago will fit today.

I bought theese cameras because my friend gave me the advice that they are from te best brand on the market. This friend is an enthusiast and knows what he's talking about. I even bought one for my daughter who is studying graphical design. We are both really happy with it and think it's a good camera that takes dynamic pictures and is easy to use.

I bought this for my wife, for Christmas, with the extra 200MM lense. I am very glad we got the zoom, it REALLY helps with outdoor shots. I was amazed at how fast I was shooting great pictures with this camera, it is our first DSLR, and we are both already LOVING it. She actually got a bit peeved at me, because I wouldn't put it down long enough for her to use it! The price point was very good. I was concerned about the battery powered option instead of a battery pack, but I have not replaced the first set of batteries yet, after taking 1000+ pictures, and those were the ones shipped in the box! I have a rechargeable set ready to go, that only cost $20.00

This camera takes great photos. [...] I have owned 2 Pentax cameras, my first was purchased in the middle 70's. Pentax quality has been a deciding factor in this purchase. This was my first purchase from B&H but it will NOT be my last. I had no previous experience with them but in searching for the best deal I came upon them. I am well pleased with this purchase.

Impressive camera. Great value amongst comparable options. My first DSLR yet have used an SLR for over 25 years.
Very comfortable to hold, and shoot one-handed if needed. Very navigable, logical menu system. My hands are medium to medium small for the average size guy.
Focuses very quickly and accurately. When focus is slow(low light), flip switch to manual focus and do it the old fashioned way. Pretty simple.
Great to be able to use AA batteries as I have many NiMH rechargables around. I've shot nearly 500 frames at 12MP and only about 6 with the flash, not using LiveView, and have only depleted one set of batteries. Shot to shot time is very quick with adequate light. Powers up and is ready to shoot very quickly.
12MP is sufficient for what I do, quite often will shoot at 2MP and 6MP for my work.
Much has been said about no focus indicators in the viewfinder. Being a film SLR user for a long time, I don't need that. If you want focus indicators buy a point and shoot, or another Pentax model. You can control the focus points 4 different ways depending on what your subject is.
Feature called Digital Filters is fun to play around with to make some creative photos.
The kit lens at 50mm at closest focal length was nearly as sharp as my Pentax SMC-A f/1.4 50mm prime at f/2 through f/11. Focused to infinity at f/8 the kit lens lost only some fine detail compared to the prime. Pretty impressive. The kit lenses, 18-55 and 50-200mm have very smooth bokeh. Have not seen any distortion. Snapped a hummingbird at rest from about 10 feet away, 200mm (fully zoomed), f/5 and could see the individual feathers. Quite sharp lens at those conditions.
Have not done much video; that is not why I bought the camera. The video I have shot, however, was easy and very clear image.

Pay attention to what is included. I neglected to realize it did not come with a memory card. The camera was a gift and the new owner is thrilled so far at the performance. I did notice, it is not meant for quick candid shots, so know what you are buying!

I needed a SLR camera so I could take motorcycle racing action photos. Point and Shoot cameras just can't do it. The Pentax was easy to learn and use right away. I still have a lot to learn, but am very happy with the Pentax

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 50-200mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
This camera will meet the needs of most SLR users.
It's so easy to use in automatic mode that it's completely fool proof. For those of us who have a more creative bent it will still meet almost all our needs.
The video mode, while acceptable to most, works best when used on a tripod as the video is prone to shake, but at least the camera HAS video.
This is the best camera for the money. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
