When I read that there was an adaptor in the not far off future that would allow Leica R lenses to be used on the Lumix G-1, that was one of the big deciding factors in my purchase of that camera. I have had the G-1 for two years now. The adaptor has been out for a while and I finally got one. I could not be more pleased. It attaches easily to the G-1 camera body and holds the heavy Leica lenses securely. It's easy to use too...enable the camera to "shoot without lens" and in Aperture Mode and turn the focus ring on the lens...and voile! After my father died, I just couldn't give up his Leicas and their lenses. I'm so glad that I kept them. The Leica camera bodies will probably just sit on a shelf, but the lenses (4) are back in use. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I have used the adapter with our Leica R 50mm, 90mm, 180mm lenses and also with a 2x teleconverter. The adapter was used for wildlife photograhpy.
The fit between lens the adapter in all cases was excellent and tight. The distance markings on the lenses appear to be quite accutate and, best of all, the picture quality is as good as I expected.
The pin-slot system that locks the rotation of the adapter to the camera is secure but has a slight, noticeable amount of play. The amount of play is similar to what is found with the Lumix lens, but since the heavy Leica lenses require two-handed operation you have to get used to feeling the play. It does not affect the picture quality.

I have used this on a G2 with 50 f2 Summicron-R,
35 f2.8 Elmarit-R, Angenieux 35-70, and Novoflex bellows.
The adapter is very well made. Both the lens and body
flanges are chrome, not anodized. The Lens side
appears as nice as the real Leica R camera mount,
(which it could very well be).
To correct reviewer below, the 'MF Assist' magnification
feature IS available.
G1, GF1: 1. Press left '<' button, then menu/set
to magnify. Press menu/set again to clear.
G2: 1. Press and hold Q Menu button until focus
rectangle appears, then menu/set to magnify.
Press menu/set again to clear.

The Lumix DMW-MA3R adapter for leica R lenses is expensive but give you great results. This little tube is made of good quality metal. It fit perfectly the Leica R lenses to the Lumix G body. But you have to remember to read the instruction sheet that come with the adapter. You have to go into the camera menu to change a setting. If you forget, you will get a error message and the camera wont work. All that is well explained by the instruction sheet.
I use the adapter with a 60 mm Macro-Elmarit Leica R and the results are great. You have to live with manual focus only which is not a big concern when you do macro work. You also have to work in aperture priority mode only. Unfortunately you can not use the camera built in magnification feature that is son useful with the other Panasonic lenses.
