I use the hard drive as a time machine backup disk for my macbook pro. I've had many WD disks before, and never been dissappointed with their performance. It works like a charm, it's small and portable, fast enough for my purposes, including SD video editing. The only thing I would point out as a negative is that the drive won't run on the power from the USB outlet on the external keyboard that I have connected to my macbook. But I knew that, and for my purposes the portability, and not having to lug around an ac adapter, far outweighs this. It might be an issue if you have several harddrives and not enough solid USB ports though.

Too much whiz and not enough bang
Great as an external drive. Useless backup software. Incompetent technical support.

Comments about Western Digital 750GB My Passport Essential SE Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive (Black):
This device was purchased as a back-up storage device for photos, videos and other data. It was easy to use and generally the picture and data files are clicked and dragged to the drive. I didn't use the Western Digital software that came with the drive. This is the 7th drive I've purchased from Western Digital. In the past I've only had one go bad and lost all the data on it. You can try to recover it but it may be pricey. Western Digital can supply you with companies they recommend to try and recover your lost data and the company will let you know if they can recover the data. Since that drive was still under warranty I received a replacement.
With this one far not complaints. Its a small handy device that's a little bigger then a pack of smokes.

Like all My Passport HDs. This model is well built feel solid. Did not use much so I can't comment on the durability or reliability. I feel that it is a bit thicker than Elite 500 Gb.

I bought this as a gift for my husband who is famous for not organizing his files and backing things up. I have two of my own and have been very happy with them. Back-up and retrieval of files is very fast and easy, and these back-up drives are small enough to carry easily.

Comments about Western Digital 750GB My Passport Essential SE Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive (Black):
Let me start by saying that this product is a good value for money. It has that optimum storage capacity too,, 1 tb being too much if you lose data and 500 gb being too shrimpy to amount to anything.
All hard drives are alike, you get a good one or you don't. If you get one that lasts, it will be good for a long time. I have used products from iomega, toshiba, seagate and wd before and must say that wd always beats everyone in weight and style. This one belongs to the same standard and if you are looking for a basic hard drive with portability, this is for you
cons:
no 3.0 functionality: I don't think it will matter much until late 2012.
password: you can either lock it or unlock it. all or none. There is no way you can give access to some files and block to some others. That to me is a complete no brainer. When you are already providing a security function why not make simple changes and make it more attractive?
