With the Canon WP-DC34 waterproof case for the Canon PowerShot G11 & G12, you can use your digital camera to take underwater shots at depths of up to 130' (40m). Of course it's also ideal for taking worry-free pictures in the rain, at the beach, or on the ski slopes.
You can use your camera's internal flash for lighting purposes. Or, use the internal flash to trigger a slaved external strobe like those made by Fantasea, Sea & Sea, Ikelite, or Sealife. The camera has an underwater white balance setting for available light photography.

I took this case for three dives and a bunch of snorkeling trips around hawaii and one was a 78foot dive to see a wreck and this case performed well. I shot both still and movies switching between modes and changing settings under water. 95% of the functions were available. The only major function missing is when I use Tv mode and tried to change the shutter speed I can't since the shutter speed is controlled by the spinning of the thumb wheel which I can't access using the buttons on the case. Otherwise, i really like the case.

I purchased this product in order to take underwater photos. It is cheap and small, which were my primary considerations. In this respect it fulfills my expectations adequately.
Beyond price and size, the best qualities of the housing are that it is clear plastic so that you can see if there is any leakage, it has multiple eyelets for threading various lanyards through (one on each front corner of the housing), and the buttons are easy to press with bare fingers (without gloves), including at depth.
There are three things I wish were different about the housing. First of all, the lens port does not support threaded wet-mount lenses. The design requires the addition of a bulky adapter which is held in place by bungies. It's simply inefficient.
Secondly, and also due to the design of the lens port, the diffuser is gigantic. It flops around in the water, the lanyard gets tangled up on other things, and all-in-all the thing is just in the way more than it is helpful.
Finally, and most importantly to me since I shoot in Manual mode, the process for changing aperture and shutter values is complex, requiring pressing three buttons, two of them simultaneously, in order to turn the small wheel on the back of the camera. This makes bracketing a colossal pain.
Ultimately, I wish I could afford to buy a better-designed housing for the camera.

No surprises. It works as expected.
I have not had a chance to test it thoroughly and take it into deep water. But for pool and beach photos works great.

Comments about WP-DC34 Case for Canon PowerShot G11 & G12:
I bought this case to use with my g12 on a snorkeling trip to Hawaii. Already having the g12, I was comfortable with the controls... Out of the water. So I took it to the local pool and played around with it for a while. Time well invested. Pictures looked great. The controls are easy to use, just know the cases limitations, as not all controls are useable underwater. Would certainly recommend for the average snorkeler or diver. Size, price and ease of use are excellent.
Do get the optional weights.

Comments about WP-DC34 Case for Canon PowerShot G11 & G12:
I bought it and the G12 especially for diving as a DSLR case is far too expensive for me.
The main reason for buying the G12 was the manual control options.
this housing however does not allow turning the dials of the G12 and thus all manual options are not available, you have to set an aperture and speed before you dive...very annoying and useless in certain situations.
i guess this is due to the fact that it was originally made for the G11 that has no dials like the G12.
and don't forget to buy the weights that are sold separately if you want it to have a negative buoyancy. to my opinion it should be part of the housing and we shouldn't have to pay for it separately.
Bottom line is that unless you want to pay a small fortune for an Ikelite housing this is your only choice.

I use both as a great weather protector in rain while hiking and sightseeing and on and underwater while boating, fishing, swimming, and snorkeling/diving. The system works well and buttons are easy to access with care. This is my second canon UWcase, so the learning curve was short.

I bought this for a trip to Hawaii. Not certified for scuba, so I was just right by the surface. Even so, we were worried because of the lack of warranty. But it was easy to follow the instructions to get things set up properly.
It worked great. It took a bit of practice for me to get used to framing moving fish while the waves kept moving me around, but that's not the case's problem.

Comments about WP-DC34 Case for Canon PowerShot G11 & G12:
I purchased this housing for snorkeling on an upcoming cruise trip. I've only used it once so far -- in a swimming pool as a test -- and it seemed to perform as advertised. My G12 camera stayed dry.
It does float, and I'm considering ordering the additional weights in order to counter that tendency.
I normally wear glasses, and of course I remove them when using a mask and snorkel. So I had difficulty seeing the LCD on the back of the camera, and therefore difficulty in framing a shot. It turns the camera into a literal "point and shoot"! The same thing goes for the labels of the various buttons on the housing. I'd suggest having a lot of experience with the camera on land first, so you have an intuitive knowledge of what the various buttons control.
Nevertheless, I'm encouraged that it didn't leak, and I'm excited to put it to use over a coral reef!
As usual, good price and delivery from B&H.

I got this for an up coming vacation. Haven't actually been under water yet with it. But I can say it's seems very well built and the camera fits perfectly. I found the controls are still easy to use. I'm happy with my purchase. One thing I didn't realize, is that it actually ships with a little tube of silicone grease and there wasn't any need for me to buy separately.

I used the cover on my G-12 a couple of times when visiting Iceland. I knew we would be photographing waterfalls and going other places where the camera had the potential to get wet. It worked great. It is a bit bulky, but it does the job well!

Comments about WP-DC34 Case for Canon PowerShot G11 & G12:
I liked the unit - it's pretty much what I expected; some people have commented that you cannot access the dials for shutterspeed (Tv); if you read either manual (the G12 or WP-DC34 manual), it shows how to do it; you have to use a combo of the shortcut button and another button.
So far I've only used it in shallow water, but I expect to use it in +40' dives.
The case does make the camera more bulky, but I expected that too. Getting used to the controls takes a bit of time, and I think if I had gloves on it might be trickier.
Regardless, it's exactly what I expected. I'm giving 4 stars only because I think they should include the weights with the system. I did buy them separately. If I had to do buy it again, I would.

This product is well made and it does exactly what is supposed to do. I followed the directions and after a few practice sessions I added the camera and got great photos in wet weather and under water - no problems.
While snorkeling I don't go deep so this review is good to 15 or 20 feet.
I plan to add the optional weights to make the camera sink.
It's great in wet or dusty weather, too. Excellent protection!

Comments about WP-DC34 Case for Canon PowerShot G11 & G12:
I was lucky with this Canon for gadget which was my own choice. With my Canon G 11 there was no leakage, simple to use. Reliable and versatile. Sure, flash diffuser is a bit funny to use/attach but who wants to use internal flash anyway, unless water is SUPER transparent?I used this housing in relatively deep Hawaiian waters: 10-15 meters below surface and never had any problem with it. Unfortunately, I forgot to purchase additional weights (which is a must have for any underwater housing) and had to adapt my own ones out of [...] bolts, nuts and my own imagination... I have to admit that I took really good care of it: sand and moisture-wise. It responded well. I would suggest new users to carefully read simple but very important manual and tune up his/her own mind to quite different piece of equipment, than plug-n-play computer gadgets.. I would also suggest bringing to max screen intensity of your camera and think of using w/a adapter. ChallengesFor example ISO choice, AV or TV or full auto mode to chose… I used it only during day time with 200 -400 ASA equivalent, AV mode. I had to use some weights not only on the camera but on my own body as well. Thanks Canon and BH which sells it for and incredibly low price.
