The Saffire PRO 24 from Focusrite is a FireWire audio and MIDI computer interface with 16 inputs and 8 outputs that's fully compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. It's designed to be a robust recording solution for home studios and mobile recording. It comes with two high quality microphone preamps, a suite of recording software (with instruments, effects, and audio loops), and an ample amount of I/0 for recording larger projects.
Focusrite has been a leader in professional audio design since the 1980's, and the Saffire PRO 24 proudly carries on their tradition. Even though the Saffire PRO 24 is relatively inexpensive, its audio performance and the quality of its preamplifiers are still held to stringent standards. The two FET-based preamps in the Saffire PRO 24 offer low noise, low distortion, and a very transparent sound free of coloration.
The two inputs on the Saffire PRO 24 can handle microphones (and provide +48V of phantom power for condenser microphones), line-level signals, and be switched to accept instrument inputs for the direct recording of guitars and basses. There are six balanced 1/4" TRS outputs on the rear for connecting studio monitors, patching multiple signals into a mixing board, etc.
The Saffire PRO 24 also features JetPLL, a jitter elimination technology that helps a signal maintain its sonic integrity during the digital conversion process. A dedication to superior sound quality is seen throughout the Saffire PRO 24, making it an excellent interface for anyone who puts in the extra effort to sound their best.

I bought this product to replace a different interface because of driver issues. I use the Saffire Pro 24 w/Apple Soundtrack and Adobe Soundbooth (OSX Snow Leopard) and have had no problems. Preamps are very quiet and the software mixer is easy to use. My only issue so far is with the industrial design, which is far from eye-catching. I would deduct 1/2 star for appearance if I could.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
I had used USB audio interfaces in the past and though they did the job, not anywhere near as good as this firewire interface. The rerouting options are plenty via the software the machine is bundled with, allowing the interface to be set up for virtual zero latency. meaning you can hear the inputs (vocals, instruments, etc.) in real time without artifacts by rerouting the inputs mix out put. Only what gets recorded is heard in the out put play back, if you choose to route it that way. otherwise you would hear the inputs TWICE when recording if you set your output to the Saffire Pro.
That was the main selling point for me because I had done home recording for years, starting on a Tascam tape machine and various Roland and Yamaha digital multi-track machines.
Recording with USB was always kind of a downer for me in the sense that there was always some latency and the direct monitor was never loud enough. Not to mention limited routing capabilities to work around. Maybe there are better USB machines, but firewire is always the best choice. The Saffire Pro 24 is definitely a winner. Sound quality is superb. It's a Focusrite, what else needs to be said?

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
My main use of this product is as an audio interface in the second control room of my studio. I have a Saffire 56 in control room "A", and I wanted to have the same A/D D/A in both studios. I was already very happy with the saffire 56. The sound quality is great. The mic pres are very clean sounding! But sometimes I wish to have a little extra gain in the mic pre... and a more progresive gain scale : most of the time you must use the gain over 8 of the 10 possibles values.
The audio mixing soft is very easy to use, but I think you can't use it with an external controler... that would be great!

The soundcard sounds really nice. Nice A/D converters. Only complaint is that the software is a bit annoying. Very good product at this price point.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
A well thought-out design, which works perfectly with Pro Tools 9 (older versions of Pro Tools could not use 3rd party interfaces, but 9 does). Lots of input/output options, and I find the ADAT input is great for bringing old ADAT recordings into Pro Tools for re-mixing. The package deal with the Saffire PRO 24 and Pro Tools 9 is an excellent value.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
I am very pleased with the quality of this interface. It is nice that I can move away from digi hardware and use something that gives me more flexability for a better price. The individual level control knob for both monitors amd headphones allow you to control each individually, and not have to use a 'mix' knob like on the mbox mini2 I had before.
The only downside would be that it's only 1 firewire 400port, and since I have a MacBook Pro woth only 1 port, I have to daisy chain it to my exteral hard drive, which slows things down slightly. If I understand correctly how firewire works, it goes by the slowest speed: so it should have been a fw800 port.
All in all, for my work woth post-production it does a great job. Highly reccomended!

I am using the Saffire Pro24 for home and on location recording. This thing does it all. Software included is very simple to navigate and works awesome with Pro Tools 9. I really love the optical input that is on it, I hook it up to my blu ray player and i get high quality sound. Definitely a really awesome product. If you are looking for an inexpensive interface with great pre amps, then this it the one for you.

One of the cheapeast firewire interfaces. Right not I'm only using as a midi interface for my drum kit, but this product is solid.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
Converting from a multi track recorder to a Mac Book Pro studio required that I find the right interface. Lots to choose from in this price range, but if you want fire wire and clean preamps, this one should be on your list.
I am using this with Logic 9 express and am very pleased with the unit. I had it up an running in about 20 minutes. Note that a big part of this unit is the mixer software. It is quite flexible and powerful. In fact it exceeds my needs. Basic mixing and routing is quite easy.
In my initial tests, I was really pleased with the sound quality of of my classical, steel, and electric guitars. The results exceeded what I was getting my multi track recorder.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
I purchased this to use in my Mac based home studio. Works great as an interface for my keyboards, guitars, basses, mics, etc. Plays well with all the other equipment. A little bit of a learning curve with the software, but I have been using Garage Band for most of my recording before this purchase.
The Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 gives me great latitude in all my recording needs with excellent sound reproduction.

Used for home studio recording and playback and will get some live duty soon...this is the perfect size, quality and price point to get the job done. Worked perfect right out of the box on a laptop PC running XP Pro with a TI firewire chipset. Make sure you read about what chipsets are recommended for use with this product. Clean, quiet and nice features. The software controller gives you all the I/O mappings you will need.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 - 16 x 8 Audio & MIDI FireWire Interface:
This is my forth audio interface. I started with a Lexicon, then M-audio and then Presonus. All in the same price range as the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. By far the Saffire beats them all. The preamps are amazing and the ADA converters are very clear. My mixes are now much more accurate. The Saffire Mixcontrol software is very easy to use. Before bying it I read some reviews saying that lattency was an issue with this interface, but I am getting very low latancy rates here. Low enough to play e-drums live with it. In this price range it will be difficult to beat the Saffire Pro 24.
