Comments about Bowens Gemini 500 Pro Travelpak Kit:
After being frustrated with using speedlights for lighting pictures for my film camera I decided I needed something with a modeling light. I did my research, and I decided to go with Bowens Pro series for the quick flash dump and the accessories available for it (fresnel!)
Quality of the unit is superb. Stands seem stable and well made, the yoke for the monolight is an L shape (as upposed to Y ) but supports the unit fine. I haven't used the battery set yet, so I can't comment on that.
I wish it came with a second speed ring for the other monolight, but I bought the advance lighting kit which comes with one.
My only complaint is the case quality - it's not bad - but I'm not a fan of using velcro to seal it shut. Velcro wears out, it's a lot harder to open than just a zipper since there is so much of it. It's a soft case (clear from the picture though). Trolly wheels are a little weak.
I had tried to buy everything in the kit individually but it was substantially more than this kit - even without the case. So I'm not terribly upset about it and was planning on moving everything into water tight hard case pelicans anyway.
I was afraid that I should have bought one with more power, but I haven't even used the strobes at their highest setting and have my camera at f8 and iso 80 for all my shots so far!

Comments about Bowens Gemini 500 Pro Travelpak Kit:
With a flash duration of 1/2900, a recycle time of 1 second at full power, international voltage compatibility, and a economical, portable power system (Travelpak), the newly designed Bowens Gemini 500 Pro are simply the most versatile monolights around right now.
The economy has taken a real toll on photographers, and in this increasingly challenging economic environment, I was looking for other options besides Profoto/Broncolor, while still maintaining accurate white balance, fast flash durations, and durability.
I looked at Elinchrom, Hensel, and, yes, even Profoto, but no other system around offers the versatility of Bowens at such a reasonable price. They still aren't the cheapest lights around, but I feel they are the most cost effective option in terms of quality vs. price.
I specialize in commercial/entertainment portraiture and fashion and highly recommend the Bowens Gemini 500 Pro lights for consideration for both studio and location work.
