The Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector is a state of the art projector that excels at just one thing; projecting the most vivid, beautiful and true to life images that today's most advanced technology is capable of achieving.

With a 3LCD optical engine capable of projecting 1600 ISO lumens at an astounding contrast ratio of as much as 200,000:1 at its heart, you know this is a projector in a class by itself. Its native resolution is 1920 by 1080, perfect for a home cinema capable of displaying 720p, 1080i and 1080p high definition signals.

Some of it powers are buried inside its electronic circuitry and optics, like its advanced, high-speed dual-layer auto iris function that adjusts light output up to 60 times-per-second based on the gamma and black/white levels of your projected content, for perfectly adjusted images and the deepest blacks.

Other advanced features are more obvious like its Fujinon lens, the choice of professional cinematographers for decades. There's also its Epson-exclusive E-TORL lamp, that runs so cool that in Normal mode (high brightness) its fan noise is just 28 dB, quieter than most projectors' ECO modes. Run the 8500UB in ECO mode and fan noise drops to an (almost literally) unheard of 22 dB and lamp life is extended to as many as 4000 hours.

The 8500UB's seven color modes, all selectable from the remote, range from Dynamic for projecting the brightest picture available (e.g., when playing video games during the day) to x.v.Color for the most natural color reproduction when viewing movies coming through one of the projector's two HDMI v 1.3 ports. Whether you're playing games, watching TV or catching the latest Blu-ray release, if you appreciate intelligent design and state of the art engineering that results in a captivating visual experience, you'll love the 8500UB.

1600 ISO Lumens and a 200,000:1 Contrast Ratio
This is enough brightness for a medium-sized room and a contrast ratio that will provide rich, vivid detailed imagery even when viewing conditions aren't optimal.
HD Native Resolution (1920 x 1080)
This projector doesn't merely do high definition. It is high definition. Its native resolution is the highest of high definition: 1920 x 1080. And it can do 1080p (progressive) in addition to the more common 1080i (interlaced). The result is a projector designed from the ground up to be an outstanding home theater projector, not a home/educational/corporate jack-of-all-trades that does a little bit of everything. And of course it also projects in 720p.
NTSC, PAL, SECAM
In addition to its HDTV capabilities the 8500UB can accept and project these SDTV (standard definition) and EDTV (enhanced definition) signals: NTSC, NTSC4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL60, SECAM, 480i, 576i, 480p and 576p.
3LCD, 3-Chip Optical Engine
3LCD technology delivers sharper and brighter images with superior grayscale detail. Smooth, seamless color combined with an unparalleled grayscale range delivers incredible detail to every image displayed by the 8500UB. Grayscale is the shades of gray (from black to white) required for greater image depth and detail; it allows greater variation in shadows and brings superior accuracy to color, creating a jaw-dropping, true-to-life visual experience.
Superior Picture Processing Technology
The 3LCD technology in the 8500UB is only one link in the chain of technologies that make a great picture. Deep, dark blacks are courtesy of Epson's UltraBlack technology and its dual-layer auto iris. Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) performs de-interlacing, noise reduction, resolution enhancement and scaling with both standard definition and high definition signals.
Seven Color Modes
You can change the Color Mode to automatically adjust brightness, contrast, and color, letting you quickly optimize the projected image for various lighting environments. You can also select a different color mode for each input source, which is useful if you view different types of images from different sources. (For example, you might set the HDMI 1 source to Living Room if it's usually used for watching movies in the daytime with the blinds closed, and the PC source to Dynamic for playing video games with the blinds open.)
Two HDMI v1.3 Ports
HDMI v1.3 compatible sources, cables and projectors can display more than a billion colors, which is actually more than the human eye can discern. So what good is it? Precisely because it can render so many more colors, images are smoothed out and the "blockiness" which you sometimes see in the dark parts of high contrast scenes is eliminated.
Fujinon Lens
Fujinon lenses are so highly regarded in the film and television industries that you've probably watched more movies and TV shows shot through Fujinon lenses than any other make. Even Fuji competitors use them. And now you can have one at the business end of your home cinema projector.
Energy Efficient E-TORL Lamp
The Epson-Twin Optimized Reflection Lamp's innovative design makes it smaller, cooler running, more efficient and brighter than an ordinary lamp. By using an elliptical reflector along with a sub-reflector, the design achieves a 20 percent improvement in efficiency making the light output brighter and reducing waste heat. Because it runs cooler, fan noise is reduced to a mere 28 dB in Normal mode (lower than many projectors' ECO modes) and an ultra quiet 22 dB in its own ECO mode. And, the lamp can last as long as 4000 hours.
