The Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector is a state of the art projector that excels at just one thing; projecting the most vivid, beautiful and true to life images that today's most advanced technology is capable of achieving.
With a 3LCD optical engine capable of projecting 1600 ISO lumens at an astounding contrast ratio of as much as 200,000:1 at its heart, you know this is a projector in a class by itself. Its native resolution is 1920 by 1080, perfect for a home cinema capable of displaying 720p, 1080i and 1080p high definition signals.
Some of it powers are buried inside its electronic circuitry and optics, like its advanced, high-speed dual-layer auto iris function that adjusts light output up to 60 times-per-second based on the gamma and black/white levels of your projected content, for perfectly adjusted images and the deepest blacks.
Other advanced features are more obvious like its Fujinon lens, the choice of professional cinematographers for decades. There's also its Epson-exclusive E-TORL lamp, that runs so cool that in Normal mode (high brightness) its fan noise is just 28 dB, quieter than most projectors' ECO modes. Run the 8500UB in ECO mode and fan noise drops to an (almost literally) unheard of 22 dB and lamp life is extended to as many as 4000 hours.
The 8500UB's seven color modes, all selectable from the remote, range from Dynamic for projecting the brightest picture available (e.g., when playing video games during the day) to x.v.Color for the most natural color reproduction when viewing movies coming through one of the projector's two HDMI v 1.3 ports. Whether you're playing games, watching TV or catching the latest Blu-ray release, if you appreciate intelligent design and state of the art engineering that results in a captivating visual experience, you'll love the 8500UB.

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
driving from Blue Ray disc player via HDMI
in dark room, 84" wide image image looks great. Watched 2001 A Space Odyssey in theater2 black mode. Incredible reds and other warm tones. Blacks impressive but not infinitely dark, can still see edge of raster for letterboxed content, like 2001 which is wider than 16x9.
Setup is trivial, menus easy. Lens offset wheels a little sticky but functional.
Also syncs perfectly to analog RGB PC input, images fine.

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
I found it difficult to view projectors firsthand. Few shops have more than one up and running. My experience is that the boutique home theater shops want to sell you a projector that costs 2 to 3 times as much as the Epson 8500UB, but really doesn't deliver much more in picture quality. I found a second hand Steward screen and I do believe now that a good screen is worth the money. We use the Epson for movies (both DVD and Netflix streaming) and tv sports. The picture quality is superb; the set up is easy and provides enough flexibility (zoom lens and other adjustments) for a self-installer like me to get the job done and get good results. To be honest, we have not found any shortcomings yet, but we've only had the unit for a short time. Having said that, this unit has received quite a few good reviews on the internet.

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
This is one of the best and also one of the most expensive projectors I've owned for personal use. The picture quality is great and it is super quiet, which is a big deal to me. Only thing I am not looking forward is when the lamp will go out, that will cost $$$, but I have a lot of good time hours before that time is here. Overall, great product!

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
After thoroughly reading many expert reviews online, the positive comments regarding the Epson 8500UB picture quality, cost of operation (low bulb replacement cost) and placement flexibility were key to my buying decision. The Epson exceeeded expectations on all counts. As a guy who likes to tweak to get the best picture, the out of the box picture quality (THX mode) needed no action. The picture from standard DVDs is great. The projector is placed 14 feet from the 110 inch diagonal Draper screen that resides in an ambient light controlled theater room. I have the projector placed on top of a built-in cabinet (1 foot wide) that is even with the top of the screen. The units horizontal adjustment allows the screen to be filled with no keystoning issues from that height and distance. I was concerned before the unit arrived that the screen may be too large for the 12 foot seating distance or the projector could not illuminate the large screen adequately or screen door problems would show. My concerns were unfounded on all counts. Initial set up was as easy as plug and play for both the HDMI and component inputs I use. [...]

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
I own this unit for about 3 weeks now. I did not own a projector till now since i presumed it would not live up to the Plasma/LCD picture quality - i was wrong! With a mere 3 meters distance i'm able to project a 100 inch wonderful image in a room in which day light is only partially controlled.
Setting it up was a mere 5 minutes and thanks to the lens mechanism you have a lot of room to play with the ceiling positioning without distorting the image.

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
I'm the ultimate comparison shopper AND a perfectionist. I thought that to obtain an excellent home theater projector one would have to spend $8-$10 thousand dollars. No need for that; spend it on your speakers!

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
I purchased this product to serve as a media hub for projection of computer, DVD, VCR, and TV. I am using it to project on a 10ft high wall. It could actually project high quality images even larger, but I'm limited by the size of the room rather than the projector. The Powerlite 8500UB is easy to set up from either the control buttons or the remote, has numerous adjustments to enhance the quality of the images projected. My wall is actually dark beige, so I was concerned about the image quality before purchasing this. However, the project's settings can compensate to get very bright and high quality images and colors.

Comments about Epson 8500UB PowerLite Home Cinema Projector:
I use the unit for Home Cinema with sources from TVIX, Oppo DVD, PVR decoder. The unithas an exceptional picture that is very natural and easy to watch. The definition, resolution and color if also very good.
Only improvement I would recomend is that the remote be easier to use. The IR senors is at the top of the unit and if place close to the ceiling, it can have intermitinent reception.
