The 32TB Fusion RX1600RAID Storage System Hard Drive Array from Sonnet is a mini-SAS RAID storage system, designed for use with Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux-based computer systems. The array is housed in a 3U rackmount form factor, suitable for professional installation.
The array does not feature an internal hardware RAID controller. Rather, it is paired with the included Sonnet PCI Express RAID controller card. The card installs in an available PCI Express x16, x8, or x4 slot (please note that installing the card in an x4 slot will limit data throughput speeds). The card is powered by a 1.2GHz Intel IOP348 RAID processor with 256MB of ECC-protected RAM. It supports many standard RAID configurations, including RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10.
You'll be able to add Fusion RX1600 Expansion units thanks to a dual internal SAS expander system, without the need for an additional controller card. These units can be daisy chained, making it easy to grow your storage as your needs increase.
Under real world use (drives 85% filled and fragmented) with its drives formatted as a RAID 5 group (sixteen drives striped with parity across all group members), a Fusion RX1600RAID system is capable of 2K (2048 x 1556) LOG RGB capture and playback. A Fusion RX1600RAID system can achieve up to 1000MB/sec read and 750MB/sec write (AJA Kona 1080HD test), fast enough to handle uncompressed 10-bit 1080 4:4:4 HD, or multiple streams of ProRes 422, uncompressed 8-bit 1080 HD, DV, HDV, and DVCPRO video.
With drives formatted as a RAID 4, RAID 5, RAID 6, or DVRAID group, Fusion RX1600RAID systems offer file protection in the event of a drive failure (two drives when formatted as a RAID 6 group). You can configure your system to provide visual and audible alerts, including e-mail notification in the event of a drive failure. A drive can be swapped out and the RAID group rebuilt in around a few hours, or you can continue to work at reduced bandwidth while the RAID group rebuilds in the background
