The N61Jq-A1 Notebook Computer from ASUS is a 16" notebook computer, perfect for day-to-day use. The computer features an enhanced Altec Lansing audio system, powered by ASUS SonicMaster technology. Graphics are handled by a dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 processor with 1GB of DDR3 VRAM.
The computer features a USB 3.0 port, which is up to ten times faster than USB 2.0. It allows you to use the latest external storage devices that support the USB 3.0 protocol, without having to add an expansion card.
The system is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel i7-720QM quad-core CPU, which can be clocked at up to 2.8GHz thanks to the Intel Turbo Boost system. It boasts 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, eSATA, HDMI, and an ExpressCard/34 expansion slot. Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

- ASUS is the first to introduce the new USB 3.0, capable of providing a bandwidth of about 5Gbps or around 10 times the bandwidth of the current USB 2.0 bus. I bought this notebook as a desktop replacement, and have used it for home and business use, plus some games. I have researched long and hard to find the best notebook that fits my budget. It's hard to find any cons about this notebook, but I'm a bit annoyed at the slightly smaller keys in the numeric keypad, but I'll get used to it. Also, I really like the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port. Not many notebooks have this capability at present.

I have always bought notebooks/laptops at higher price points. This one is better that my last Compaq and about $900.00 less. I can not think of anything I do not like about this laptop - maybe better battery life, but that is not that important to me. I know of two others that will buy this laptop because of my experence.

I am currently using this notebook for audio production and live performances (I play the keyboards in a few groups), that's why I need something really responsive and powerful. The i7M core features that extra bunch of processing power needed to run everything I need "on the fly"; paired with its 4 GB of RAM memory, the performance is what I was looking for. On the other hand, I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer, so the video card is not a problem for me, however, you can play most of today's games at medium resolutions with no trouble at all. Last, but not least, the screen resolution is the only thing that left to be desired, it could support a bit more, in that case, it would be THE perfect machine. It's a 4.5/5 for me.
