I purchased this camera to replace an aging Sony CyberShot. I was looking for a similar design, ie. a slim camera with a non-telescoping lens that would fit easily into my pocket with a protective lens cover. My primary reason for upgrading was to reduce shutter lag - the Lumix was top-rated in this category. The touch screen display simplifies adjusting camera settings by minimizing menu lists. The photos are sharp and color rendering excellent. With a list price of [$] this camera is a excellent value.

This camera is terrible and almost the same as my free cellphone for indoor pics. I am comparing this to my bottom-of-the line sony cybershot which is 7 yrs old.(from 2004). The pics looked decent on the camera display but on the computer screen you can see how bad they are.
I repeatedly tried this Lumix indoors and every pic comes out dark, grainy, and with awful contrast. This was after adjusting all settings/picture temp. (warm cool etc), with and w/o auto modes. You must have the flash on at all times just to get these dark pics. The flash is very fast and even close objects are not lit up from it. My sony can make even dark rooms look like day w/ the flash and the pics are clear and crisp with my sony which has less than half of the megapixels. I even tried to angle lamps at the objects that I was taking and then the pics looked overexposed while the background is still dark. The HD video is the same looking indoors and beats my old standard-def sony a little. Everything comes out so bad you would never know it's HD. Outdoors everything looked fine but who needs an outdoor only camera.
This is a piece of sleek electronics w/ features and thats all. For a camera it is too poor to keep or even consider keeping.

We now own three of these!! My daughter received one as a gift prior to leaving for Germany. I loved it so much, I bought myself one. My son tried mine and loved, so I bought him one too! Excellent camera!! Battery lasts a very long time. Zoom is certainly adequate and megapixels are awesome!

Nice, small package, and interesting (though slow) touch screen feature, but poor photos in low light conditions and/or with flash.

I gave it as a gift to a new photographer, he loved it. It was really easy for him to learn the different settings and for an inexpensive camera the picture quality is good, and the lag between shots is short.

Used as "carry with" camera to capture anything in any lighting conditions. Fits in any pocket.Starts up instantly, and focuses just as fast. Only moving the camera alot during shooting will cause a blur in a picture. If the subject is moving the camera will still take a good picture.I
took alot of test shots under all conditions....I like this camera. Battery lasts long enough, and recharges in a little over half hour. Easy to customize settings. You can have 4 saved settings with fast access. Shot a 25' square room in complete darkness in Auto with flash and picture turned out like daylight.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FP3 Digital Camera (Black):
The Lumix DMC-FP3 is my designated family camera. It's a early 2010 model offered at B&H in May 2011 for less than $100. It's small, solid, good looking, and has a nice slider cover for the lens. It's a slow touch screen/mini button push combo. The very small sensor manages to pump out 12.5 MP in the 35mm format. Noise plays a factor at ISOs higher than 200. The lens is slow on the long side, adequate on the short side. This is not recommended for available light. Pictures are decent when used outdoors on a sunny day. Set your ISO to 400 to capture flash indoors. To sum up, it is much better than a smart phone camera, just not as convenient. Considering there are worse P&S cameras at three times the price, this is a great value.
