The Samsung SL50 Digital Camera is an easy-to-use camera built on a high-resolution 10.2 megapixel image sensor. The 5x optical zoom lens provides a true 27mm wide angle view. The 2.5" LCD display not only helps you compose your photos, it allows you to view your images even in bright sunlight.
The Smart Auto feature makes the camera easy to use, and combined with Face Detection and Digital Image Stabilization technology, produces quality images. This versatile camera even captures 640 x 480 @ 30fps VGA video.

- The SL50's 27mm wide angle lens plus 5x optical zoom gives you a wide shooting range from a short distance. Capture images of beautiful landscapes, entire wedding parties and skyscrapers without having to back up to get the shot. The precisely cut 27mm optical lens delivers clear, clean images with even resolution from center to edges. Each lens surface is multi-coated to minimize ghosting or flaring for a great shot every time.
- Face Detection
- With the Face Detection feature, you'll take wonderful photos of your friends and family. The camera detects faces in a scene and then automatically focuses and optimizes the brightness of the face for beautiful portrait pictures.
- Digital Image Stabilization
- Get brighter and more natural pictures with DIS technology. With DIS the effects of image blur are reduced in lower light conditions. You can even take well exposed, sharper pictures without using a flash.
- MJPEG Movies
- Record video VGA at 30 fps. The SL50 also features helpful in-camera editing controls, which lets you pause and then resume filming without having to save each clip as an individual file.

I bought this camera to have something basic, small, and inexpensive to keep in my pocket. I'm a former pro photographer so I have reasonably high standards for a camera, but I kept my expectations low for such an inexpensive point & shoot.
I have been pleasantly surprised by this camera. It is far more responsive than I would expect out of such a basic camera. I shoot primarily in Program mode, and that helps, but even the scene "full auto" modes and face-recognition modes are reasonably quick. Image quality is good, and the adjustments available are useful. The color reproduction is very good although I often increase the contrast a bit in software later on. You can increase the contrast with camera settings, but I prefer to do it afterward in software. The wide-angle (27.5mm equivalent) is nice to have.
Negatives: The video function is only standard-def, but adequate if your main purpose is photographs. The zoom button is a little weird, but functional. It only has a 2.5" LCD, which sometimes feels a little small.
Overall, this camera is very much worth the money. I strongly recommend it for an everyday, pocket-able camera that anyone, experienced or not, can appreciate.

This was my first digital camera so I was looking for a simple and cheap camera.
My needs for a camera were simple, I just wanted to have a small and lightweight camera for everyday situations.
I must say that this camera fits very well in my needs. It's simple to use, lightweight and shoots good quality pictures.
I love the fact that this camera comes with a rechargeable battery so I don't need to keep buying batteries all the time.
For my next camera the only thing I would prefer to increase would be the optical zoom.
Also, I think this camera is not very good in low light environments without the flash, but I don't know why.
With the flash it is just OK.
