The Fujifilm S1800 12.2 MP Digital Camera helps you move up to a higher level of photography--12.2 MP resolution, an amazing 18X optical zoom lens (28-504mm equivalent on a 35mm camera), low-light capability using the high sensitivity function (up to ISO 6400) and the CCD-shift image stabilization (also great when using the very long telephoto end of the zoom range), and the high resolution 3" LCD monitor give you photographic tools seldom found on a "point and shoot" digital camera.
SR AUTO scene recognition automatically gives you the optimum setting for such common shooting situations as Natural Light, Natural Light with Flash, Zoom Bracketing, Smile, Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night, Night (with Tripod), Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Party, Flower, and more. Or, you can take control and make all the adjustments manually. Your choice.
There's also a panoramic mode that stitches together 3 photos side-by-side automatically in the camera for an ultra-wide view, a tracking auto focus to get sharp pictures of moving people or objects, face detection that maximizes exposure and focus for faces in your images, and even a blink/smile detection mode that eliminates blinks and catches smiles. I purchased this camera for situations where I didn't want to carry my bigger DSLR and because it was among the FEW point-and-shoots that featured an optical viewfinder. Not having an optical viewfinder makes a camera impossible for me to use. The 720P video capture feature was an added plus as I incorporate video in my work.
Fuji has packed a lot into this camera but had to impose a lot of limitations as well. I don't typically use auto settings on any camera. I haven't used them on this camera. I can not offer opinions regarding auto functions.
Pros:
Still image quality is pleasing. Variety of aspect ratios is very useful. Video quality is OK, but not great.
Disappointments:
18x zoom lens is, in my opinion, idiotic and likely the main reason aperture options are so limited. 10x should be the max allowed, period.
Video exposure control appears non-existent. Plan the shot, try to keep all subjects in the same focus plane, and pan slowly. Expect to improve the image contrast and color saturation in post, but don't expect a lot of improvement.
Cons:
I am not going to list "cons", as most I have read in user reviews tend to complain about features that were not in the original design specifications. This camera needs to be understood and used within its limitations. It should then provide very good images. That said, this is the camera I will purchase for my daughter because like me, she has to have a camera she can hold up to her eye. The back LCD just doesn't work for her when taking photos. Unlike me, she could care less about shutter speed, ISO, or aperture. I believe she will be very pleased with this model camera.

My biggest concern is the indoor performance using flash. What ever you are trying to take a photo of can not be moving around. It is impossible to get a quick shot of a moving child no matter what the camera setting. Between the slow flash and slow focus the image you actualy get is about 1 to 2 seconds later. If the indoor lighting is good enough the S1800 does OK .
I believe that the only way to get a digital camera that captures indoor images quickly is to buy a good DSLR camera for three times the price of the S1800 . The S1800 is a very good vacation camera when you want to get decent scenery shots near or far away or for composed shots indoors. Also the video is said to be HD but in reality is realy just so so. If any one is going to buy this camera for the HD video capabilities they will be disappointed. There is no HDMI so tnere is no way to view HD video on a HD tv using this camera.

I bought this camera for my personal use for family and sporting events. My daughter does cheerleading and soccer and I like to take pictures of her. I also like to tail gate at Mississippi State Univ. and the University of Alabama for the college football games. I can not wait till football season starts again for some great on field pictures. All the pictures I have taken so far have been great and I am still finding more options on the camera that I did not know about.

This camera takes great pictures during the day, It has awesome zoom and its pretty easy to use for all around daily pictures and amatures. The video is not so great, I am not sure if its just me not knowing the settings or if its the camera, but they arent as crisp and sharp as i thought they would be, could be just me not knowing how to fully use the camera yet like i said. all around im happy with the camera, I would definetly recommend.

However, as an older user who finds it difficult to read tiny screens and icons, I am very happy with the large, easily read displays/menus, and the inclusion of a viewfinder. I bought this for my 11 yo daughter who has expressed an interest in photography. It is an "SLR-Like" camera with some decent features. Notably, it has a viewfinder and of course it looks like an SLR. The fit and finish is nice and the pics are good. Fuji cut costs by using AA batteries to power it - but, they performed just as advertised (~305 shots per set). We now have lithium batteries in it and they are advertised to go for 700 shots - we'll see.
It takes a bit of time to take a picture...but I see it as reasonable given the cost.
All in all a good camera so far. Would definitely recommend it for like applications.

got this camera for my mother, who is semi-arthritic and a technophobe. The camera body and button layout are very good for someone with limited dexterity, and the camera OS is very easy to navigate. the only glaring problem i have found in my limited time with this camera is the shutter lag and blur due to the slow lens; a trade-off for the zoom i suppose.

So far, we like this camera. I'm a pro photographer but was looking for an inexpensive everyday camera for my husband to shoot our new baby and to take on family vacations - I wanted something better than the basic point-n-shoot we already have with some manual features for night shots, but obviously don't need all the bells and whistles as my pro camera has that. This is lightweight, easy to use (but then I'm familar with cameras), and takes a nice photo - I'm only looking to put these on the web and maybe print up to 5x7.
