I use this for advanced amateur and fun photography, often while traveling. I have a Nikon D200 and several Nikon and Sigma lenses which I have used for serious photography. I had also enjoyed a Lumix TZ-5 for 2 years and found it compact, easy to use and capable of high image quality. The ZS7 is better in a number of ways. First is a smaller size that is very noticeable and makes the camera easier to carry along virtually anywhere. The image quality is also better, but not as much better as I thought it might be in comparison to the TZ-5. It's really amazing however. On a current trip to St. Maarten, my brother in law and I compared photos taken with the little Lumix at its intellizoom liimit of 400mm equivalent with his Nikon D300 and Tamron 18-270 lens, giving a maximum equivalent focal length of 405mm. We took hand held photos of cruise ships passing our condo a mile or so away and the resolution we saw was virtually comparable, just judging by trying to see ship detail and read lettering on the vessel, as seen on the LCD's. Pretty impressive for such a tiny device costing [$]! Focusing is faster than any previous such camera I've used and the image stabilization also seems better. I've had no problems getting reasonable pics at 400mm handheld in any reasonable light. The GPS feature is fun but using it decreases battery life. A zoom range from 25-400 mm equivalent is truly useful. Macro works well and it's nice to be able to make audio notes. Obviously it can't compare with my Nikon for rapid shooting and focusing and the burst rate and capacity are quite limited. Nevertheless it's so good that I just don't even bring the Nikon along for anything but high-speed action or very serious attempts at pro-level pics. Progress in sensors has let this little camera surpass the image quality of my D200 in many situations. Noise is a factor at lower light levels and degrades image quality signficantly. I love this camera and the new control it gives over exposure modes. The imaging possibilities it puts in your pocket would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. Bill Dicus

I would recommend this camera to some of my friends who aren't as particular when it comes to photo's and digital images. It shoots great video, the "on the fly" autofocus is great in video mode. The only drawback is it's lack of RAW image settings, the camera's 12 megapixel sensor is wasted when the images are saved as highly compressed jpg files. I returned the camera because I desired medium/high quality digital captures that I could take to photoshop. Also, the low light images leave much to be desired, however, at this price point, overall good performance.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
I used the Lumix ZS-7 for the first time yesterday at my niece's graduation ceremony, then plugged the SDHC card (purchased separately) into my iPad for a slide-and-movie show at dinner. Everyone oohed and aahed--the picture quality is an amazing step up from our previous Lumix FX-01. Bought this because the current ZS-10 is virtually the same camera for $100 more. Japanese-made. Only drawback is the unavailability of a leather Lumix strap for this, didn't come with the Lumix leather case (also purchased separately). Highly recommended at [$].

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
Already own Panasonic Lumix FZ28 and I really think it's a terrific camera but I needed a more compact version. I didn't want to lose picture quality and zoom capability but I needed smaller. The zs-7 excells in picture quality and almost as much zoom plus the added GPS feature which I find very useful on hikes and even urban excursions. Very fast to change to movie mode, one button. Very slick unit. Purchased belt carry case, Lowepro APEX 30 AW with all weather cover and enough room for extra batteries. It has no view finder but can be made bright enough, even in Fl and AZ sun so that hasn't been a problem.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
This product was used initially to photograph an inventory of my home and personal belongings.
While it was easy to use in the iA mode, and had adequate memory to store the number of pictures I wanted to take, it' battery capacity was disappointing. It seemed like the camera was continually running out of power, and needing to have its battery recharged.

The GPS is awesome so you always know where you are in each picture; especially if you are a traveler. Great photo quality and the intelligent auto takes great pictures without you having to adjust any settings manually. Overall, a very solid compact camera.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
I carry this camera with me every day, either in my shirt pocket or my lunch box. Just waiting for that opportune time to catch a candid moment. This being my fourth Panasonic I do believe there are just none better, for the rough paces I put it through in all kinds of conditions. It turns out brilliant pictures and video consistently with ease of use. Majoriy of my pictures are outside and the long zoom really captures those difficult shots. Print quality is great on my home printer even the poster size look wonderful. The main concern I have with them is getting dust inside the lens but that is a lot of my fault for having it in dusty conditions. My last 2 cameras developed a bad scratch on the lense I believe came from the dust cover opening and closing. It is bad enough you can feel it with your fingernail I am careful to protect which leads me to think it is the dust cover doing it. Other than that I have had no problems with these cameras and will keep buying them.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
Haven't had this long but it's got it all. Yes, you can get slightly better optics or sensor by paying a lot more but then you're stuck with a limiting 4 times zoom, and miss out on the many other features this camera has that the more expensive ones don't. I was debating between the LX5 and the Canon S95. I'm glad I decided on the ZS7. And if you want a blurred background all you have to do is crank up the zoom which you can't do with the others. You get as much light through this lens at 12x as you do with the Canon at 4x.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
This is my 2nd ZS7 in a year. I did quite a bit of research on the first one because of the lens, zoom, quality of the pictures, size, and weight. Unfortunately I broke my last one falling while climbing (I am relatively OK, the camera was a mess). I use it both for climbing and hiking as well as family photos. Not a perfect camera for fast moving sports inside but outside sports pictures excellent. Low light pictures are also can have grain in them. But for the cost, lens, size, weight, etc it is a wonderful camera.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Black) Digital Camera:
The 12x optical zoom with smooth autofocus coupled with a big bright LCD, excellent clarity and easy, intuitive controls make this a wonderful camera. Easy to go from shooting a wide angle indoor shot to a close up of some distant wild life. I made several shots from a rocking boat, using zoom and composing in bright sunlight. Amazing photos resulted. Easy to hook up to laptop, TV etc for viewing etc. I have not yet tried low light or video shooting but I expect that to be excellent too.
