The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 is a compact 14.1-Megapixel digital camera with a 28mm 4.6x optical zoom lens designed for people with an active lifestyle. The camera is waterproof to 33' (10m), shockproof to 6.6' (2m), freezeproof to 14°f (-10°c), and dustproof. This makes the camera perfect for beach going, swimming, skiing, climbing, hiking or any other outdoor activity, or tough environment. Setting the camera for the perfect photo is easy with Beach, Surf, Snow, & Sports modes.

The camera has features that allow you to capture all the high-speed action. The camera has a fast start-up time and short release time lag so you do not miss the shot, while Sonic Speed AF and Optical Image Stabilization will keep your images sharp. If the image is better captured in motion, the camera can take HD movies. If it is starting to get dark, the camera even has a built-in LED light for capturing video. All of these features make the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 the take-with-you-everywhere camera, no matter where you go or what you do.

14.1-Megapixel High-resolution CCD
The DMC-TS2 features a 1/2.33" CCD with effective 14.1-megapixel high-resolution.
Leica DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology
The DMC-TS2 features a high-quality Leica DC Vario-Elmar 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 28-128mm). The folded optics of shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. This lens unit comprises 10 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including 1 ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, passing Leica's stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges. The DMC-TS2 is drop proof from a height up to 2.0m in accordance with the "MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock" test standard. In addition to reinforcing the exterior of the camera with shock-resistant material, the DMC-TS2 uses folded optics to prevent its lens unit from taking damage when dropped during operation. The lens unit is protected by a supplementary damper to absorb the force from shock impact. All components, including the lens unit, are designed to endure temperatures as low as -10 °C making the DMC-TS2 freezeproof.
28mm Wide-Angle Lens
The 28mm wide-angle lens lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.
4.6x Optical Zoom, 6x Intelligent Zoom, 9.8x Extra Optical Zoom
Thanks to the newly incorporated Intelligent Resolution technology, the Intelligent Zoom feature is available with the DMC-TS2, extending the zoom ratio by approximately 1.3x and maintaining the picture quality even combining a digital zoom. This means the 4.6x optical can virtually extend to a 6x equivalent. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function extends zoom power to 9.8x by using the center part of the large CCD to bring subjects even closer when shooting at 3-megapixel resolution.
Waterproof
With waterproof performance to a depth of 33' (10m), equivalent to the "IEC60529 IPX8" standard, the DMC-TS2 supports active shooting on a beach, underwater, or in a pool. If the camera gets dirty, soil and dust can be washed off by using water.
Shockproof
The DMC-TS2 is shockproof from a height up to 6.6' (2m) in accordance with the "MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock" test standard. It lets you shoot actively while moving around with the camera in one hand.
Freezeproof
Freezeproof to 14°f (-10°c), the DMC-TS2 supports shooting while skiing, snowboarding or skating.
Dustproof
The DMC-TS2 is dustproof, equivalent to the "IEC60529 IP6X" standard. While hiking or playing sports, fine dust particles can enter through gaps in the camera body and cause malfunction. The DMC-TS2 can be used in these activities without problems.
Sealed Design and Included Silicon Jacket
If sand or other foreign matter becomes lodged in the rubber packing around the socket section or card/battery door, water can penetrate into the camera body and lead to a malfunction. The sealed body design of the DMC-TS2 prevents this, so you can use it safely at the beach or other sandy areas. The DMC-TS2 also comes bundled with a silicon jacket that prevents scratches.
Beach, Surf, Snow Mode & Sports Modes
The DMC-TS2 has 3 active outdoor scene modes - Beach & Surf, Snow, and Sports - that can be switched easily and quickly by turning the mode dial, ensuring that you don't miss sudden shooting opportunities. The Beach & Surf Mode is perfect for your beach activities, allowing you to use a single mode with optimized auto white balance both on the beach and in shallow water. To switch from still image shooting to motion image recording, simply press the Motion Picture Button. The camera selects the most suitable motion image scene mode to achieve a seamless transition from still to motion image recording.
Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-TS2 has a maximum speed of approx. 0.24 second (wide-end) / 0.28 second (tele-end) for auto focusing. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.
Fast Start-Up Time
The previous linear processing program has been replaced with parallel processing to save 0.2 second off the start-up time. This has resulted in ultra-high-speed start-up of approximately 1.10 seconds.
Release Time Lag
The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.005 second, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities.
HD Movie in AVCHD Lite
In addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-TS2 can record high-definition motions images in AVCHD Lite. It features almost double the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format.
LED Light
The DMC-TS2 features an LED light that records beautiful motion images even in dusky underwater environments or at a nighttime camp. A convenient auto function also automatically turns on the LED when the ambient light becomes dim.
Scene Mode for Both Photos and Movies
The DMC-TS2, a hybrid still/motion image model, includes numerous Scene Modes for taking movies. Switching from still-image to movie shooting is seamless because the optimal Movie Scene Mode is automatically selected. The versatile Scene Mode range is a unique Lumix feature that handles just about any situation and subject type. By simply selecting a Scene Mode, the camera makes the optimal settings for you automatically, so anybody can take superb photos and movies with ease
2.7" 230,000-dot High-Resolution LCD
The DMC-TS2's large 2.7" LCD features a high 230,000-dot resolution, and a wide-viewing angle that lets you frame your shot in a variety of ways for both shooting and viewing. Lumix's acclaimed Intelligent LCD function also automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. In addition, the AR (anti-reflective) coating LCD minimizes glare and provides clear images, for high visibility even in outdoor brightness. This LCD provides sharp, clear images in virtually all shooting situations, ranging from nighttime to bright daylight scenes and from low-angle to high-angle shooting. And, it lets you share the fun of viewing images with family and friends.
Extended Battery Life
The energy-saving Venus Engine HD II image processing engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery - which has been slimmed down to fit into thinner camera bodies - work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-TS2. This lets users take approximately 360 shots on a single battery charge.
3 Aspect Ratios
The aspect ratio for the DMC-TS2 can be easily selected from 16:9 wide, 3:2 and conventional 4:3 to shoot in the framing aspect that best suits the photo's composition or purpose of use. The 16:9 ratio gives images that match the aspect ratio of an HDTV screen.
Slideshows
The DMC-TS2 can play a slideshow with music. Choose from 4 types of music: Natural, Slow, Swing and Urban. Then, select the transition effect to match your music. You can also use the optional RP-CDHM15/CDHM30 mini HDMI cable to connect the camera to an HDTV for breathtaking, large-screen viewing. For musical slideshows created with the included PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition, you can choose your favorite iTunes music file as background music and burn it onto a DVD disc as a MPEG2 file. It is also possible to upload the slideshow to YouTube.
Title Edit / Text Stamp
The Title Edit function in the playback mode lets you edit the titles of any photos you want. You can also enter your destination and travel date into the Travel Mode in advance, or enter the birth date and name of your subject in the Baby Mode or Pet Mode. The title, date of travel information, name, age based on the birth date, and date of shooting are displayed during playback, and can be printed on photos.
Clipboard
The Clipboard function is incredibly handy for the maps and time schedules that are so important when traveling. By snapping photos of them and adding them to the clipboard, you can retrieve them instantly with the Mode Dial. Because it takes a little time to retrieve images from an SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, the images are stored in their own special folders in the built-in memory.
PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition
The latest version of exciting software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition comes bundled with the DMC-TS2. With quick start-up and fast read-in of images, the PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition makes it possible to sort and organize photos not only of those newly taken but also of those stored in your computer. The Face Recognition function recognizes the faces in the image to automatically sort the photos by the registered faces, without necessitating picking out each photo one by one when you only want images of a specific person. You can also enjoy slideshows with a variety of effects and use your iTunes music library as background music and burn it onto a DVD disc in MPEG2. Motion images can be uploaded directly to YouTube using the built-in YouTube uploader even in HD (High Definition) quality. It also lets you create a 360-degree rotation panorama file in MOV, which is especially easy if Panorama Assist Mode in the camera is used. The software is of course compatible with the Windows 7. Experience and feel the outstanding benefits of the PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition. It will allow you to view, edit and archive your captured photos and motion images with greater ease and fun.

I used this camera mostly under water in a rough surf environment, and again on land in the sun and at night. It handled the rough situations well and took good pictures. I would recommend it as a good all-rounder.

Worth mentioning is that the inside of the camera lens (part of the casing) fogged up a little when first entering the water. Air temperature was about 30degrees C and water about 26degrees C. This did eventually clear, but blurs photos and video for the first 15minutes.

Its video is excellent, especially HD with the stabiliser activated. Use a SD HC card to make sure the card can keep up with the rate at which the camera writes video data.

Highly recommended.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):

Amazing for underwater! It captured amazing snorkeling images in Hawaii. No need to deal with fogging housing moving around.

However, on land I am used to the clarity and sharpness of Canon point and shoot cameras, which this camera lacks.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):

We've found this to be a great and durable little camera. We dont fear taking it pretty much anywere, and its nice to be able to take a camera swimming, climbing, and even for a night out on the town and not worry if its going to work at the end of the festivities. One of the most suprising things about this camera is that the lens does not move in and out. The camera is very compact and seems extremely well built. The 'intelligent auto' has been hit and miss but with mostly hits. As an avid/advanced photographer I would have enjoyed a more thorough explanation of what settings the various scene modes changed but the included documentation, print and electronic, was surprisingly devoid of explanations. The software does not work with mac which is both surprising and annoying but ultimately who really uses anything other than iphoto or aperture on a mac? The biggest annoyance we have found is that for a waterproof camera many features that you would think should be sort of basic are not there. The camera sinks like a rock, not even close to being buoyant. The buttons are also not very swimmer friendly. I've found it surprisingly difficult to control the camera while in the water. I wish they would have put some more thought into the fact that people who purchase a waterproof camera are probably going to take it into the water. But ultimately a tough little camera that takes good to great pictures including great underwater ones.

I love this camera, In just 3 months I plan to bring it to Hawaii and where I will be going snorkeling with it. A friend recommended this to me because he had the old model, and it is soooooooo totally worth it.

As of right now though I am just using it for class. Love the fact that I can accidentally bump it on the counter or have it in my back and drop my back and the last thing I need to worry about is my camera breaking. I can even bring it to the club, and if I accidentally drop it while jumping and dancing around, no worries, and it looks slick enough to just blend right in.

This thing is TOUGH AS STONE... MAYBE EVEN TOUGHER!!! On the con side, only think I can find so far is that the menu is a little confusing to navigate through. But that just takes some time.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):

I bought it to use in snow conditions, and it does the job. It has silicone protective shield which should protect body from scratches. I have also bought screen protector film. Picture quality is very good. All pictures are in correct exposure and colors. Very high speed burst mode produces high quality shots. It is not very sensitive in the dark, but it has bight LED light which does it's job pretty well. Didn't try to put it in the water yet, but I dropped it on the snow, and everything is ok. Image stabilization is great! Auto focus is very fast, there is AF tracking system which is great when you do sporting shots. Auto focus and optical zoom work perfectly fine in video mode. Video is very clear and smooth 720p.

What I like about the camera. The lens, ease of use, durability in rough terrain whether hot and dusty or rain forest wet, tracking a moving image especially for hummingbirds!, locking focus on faces, excellent movie capability...shall I go on.

Looking forward to using it underwater soon, as a general point and click it is the same as all the rest. It would be nice to have a bit bigger buttons and maybe a lens cover? In the end it is a bit heavier and clunky then expected, but I guess that is because it is durable.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):

Camera is speedy at most things. Most pictures are good, however a few seem slightly over-colored (too vivid or red or blue tinged). Sharpness is also very good. Minimal complaints. Not great for low light pictures that are taken farther than 8 feet from any speed moving subject (the auto-focus assist light doesn't go farther than that), but is nice for nighttime shorts if you have a tripod or something to hold the camera very still on (table, pole). Haven't drop/water tested it yet, but did walk around in 20f weather with camera in hand or outer coat pocket and take pictures; worked fine. Recommended as a family camera for adults who don't want to worry when their kids ask to borrow the camera.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):

Most point and shoots don't come close to the ruggedness of this feature packed camera. It's not "if" you drop your camera it's when. This camera was purchased specifically for traveling.

You will get nice photo using this camera, but the video recording format is not so good as HD video consumes a lot of memory on SD card. With 8GB card you will have capacity only for 30min video :(

Takes great pics. Very clear. Easy to use. Loaded with features. All the kids use it (ages 2,5,8) without dad worrying about it getting messed up. Have not tested the waterproof, shock proof, or freeze proof capabilities, but plan to soon, seems very rugged, well built. Overall very happy with my purchase. Takes better outdoor pics then flash pics.

I haven't tested this camera yet for its claimed features, namely waterproofness, shock-proof etc.I bought it since we have a toddler who's likely to get his hands on it and we wanted to be worry free about the camera. Also, I wanted the AVC recording format.I have been somewhat dissatisfied with the camera's indoor shooting. Shots are generally soft and colors either over saturated (especially reds) or there appears to be too much blue tint biasing so that faces have a sickly look. The latter seems to occur under flash or flourescent lighting (there is no pre-selected white balance setting for flourescent lighting). Outdoor pics are much better. The HD video is the best feature of this camera; the AVC allows you to record as much as you want within the limits of the card.I had a ZS6 which I had bought from and returned to [...]. Its photos were much better quality, but it lacked the AVC recording format (the MJpeg limits you to only 2gb which is approx. 8min.)There are trade-offs involved when buying this type of camera. In hindsight, I think that it would have been better to have a camera whose first ability is taking great pics/video than being rugged...

I gave this to my son. He is in the NAVY, stationed in Cuba and scuba dives weeky. The underwater pictures are incredible, he has nothing bad to say about the camera. The land scape shots are great.
He is more enthused to get out and do more just to take pictures.

For the most part I use a camera for travel photos in places that are extremely humid or off the beaten track. That means that I need a camera that can take great quality photos in adverse conditions AND fit in a small space. So far, the Lumix has met all my requirements and has been easy to use. I can recommend it for anyone looking for an easy to use, compact, high quality camera.
