I used this camera mostly under water in a rough surf environment, and again on land in the sun and at night. It handled the rough situations well and took good pictures. I would recommend it as a good all-rounder.
Worth mentioning is that the inside of the camera lens (part of the casing) fogged up a little when first entering the water. Air temperature was about 30degrees C and water about 26degrees C. This did eventually clear, but blurs photos and video for the first 15minutes.
Its video is excellent, especially HD with the stabiliser activated. Use a SD HC card to make sure the card can keep up with the rate at which the camera writes video data.
Highly recommended.

Amazing for underwater! It captured amazing snorkeling images in Hawaii. No need to deal with fogging housing moving around.
However, on land I am used to the clarity and sharpness of Canon point and shoot cameras, which this camera lacks.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):
We've found this to be a great and durable little camera. We dont fear taking it pretty much anywere, and its nice to be able to take a camera swimming, climbing, and even for a night out on the town and not worry if its going to work at the end of the festivities. One of the most suprising things about this camera is that the lens does not move in and out. The camera is very compact and seems extremely well built. The 'intelligent auto' has been hit and miss but with mostly hits. As an avid/advanced photographer I would have enjoyed a more thorough explanation of what settings the various scene modes changed but the included documentation, print and electronic, was surprisingly devoid of explanations. The software does not work with mac which is both surprising and annoying but ultimately who really uses anything other than iphoto or aperture on a mac? The biggest annoyance we have found is that for a waterproof camera many features that you would think should be sort of basic are not there. The camera sinks like a rock, not even close to being buoyant. The buttons are also not very swimmer friendly. I've found it surprisingly difficult to control the camera while in the water. I wish they would have put some more thought into the fact that people who purchase a waterproof camera are probably going to take it into the water. But ultimately a tough little camera that takes good to great pictures including great underwater ones.

I love this camera, In just 3 months I plan to bring it to Hawaii and where I will be going snorkeling with it. A friend recommended this to me because he had the old model, and it is soooooooo totally worth it.
As of right now though I am just using it for class. Love the fact that I can accidentally bump it on the counter or have it in my back and drop my back and the last thing I need to worry about is my camera breaking. I can even bring it to the club, and if I accidentally drop it while jumping and dancing around, no worries, and it looks slick enough to just blend right in.
This thing is TOUGH AS STONE... MAYBE EVEN TOUGHER!!! On the con side, only think I can find so far is that the menu is a little confusing to navigate through. But that just takes some time.

I bought it to use in snow conditions, and it does the job. It has silicone protective shield which should protect body from scratches. I have also bought screen protector film. Picture quality is very good. All pictures are in correct exposure and colors. Very high speed burst mode produces high quality shots. It is not very sensitive in the dark, but it has bight LED light which does it's job pretty well. Didn't try to put it in the water yet, but I dropped it on the snow, and everything is ok. Image stabilization is great! Auto focus is very fast, there is AF tracking system which is great when you do sporting shots. Auto focus and optical zoom work perfectly fine in video mode. Video is very clear and smooth 720p.

I have been using the Lumix DMC TS2 for about 3 weeks and have taken over 1000 photos most of which have been taken in South American.
What I like about the camera. The lens, ease of use, durability in rough terrain whether hot and dusty or rain forest wet, tracking a moving image especially for hummingbirds!, locking focus on faces, excellent movie capability...shall I go on.

Looking forward to using it underwater soon, as a general point and click it is the same as all the rest. It would be nice to have a bit bigger buttons and maybe a lens cover? In the end it is a bit heavier and clunky then expected, but I guess that is because it is durable.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):
Camera is speedy at most things. Most pictures are good, however a few seem slightly over-colored (too vivid or red or blue tinged). Sharpness is also very good. Minimal complaints. Not great for low light pictures that are taken farther than 8 feet from any speed moving subject (the auto-focus assist light doesn't go farther than that), but is nice for nighttime shorts if you have a tripod or something to hold the camera very still on (table, pole). Haven't drop/water tested it yet, but did walk around in 20f weather with camera in hand or outer coat pocket and take pictures; worked fine. Recommended as a family camera for adults who don't want to worry when their kids ask to borrow the camera.

Most point and shoots don't come close to the ruggedness of this feature packed camera. It's not "if" you drop your camera it's when. This camera was purchased specifically for traveling.

I like the quality of the photos and the resistance of the camera. It could have proctetion for the viewer and LCD display.

You will get nice photo using this camera, but the video recording format is not so good as HD video consumes a lot of memory on SD card. With 8GB card you will have capacity only for 30min video :(

Takes great pics. Very clear. Easy to use. Loaded with features. All the kids use it (ages 2,5,8) without dad worrying about it getting messed up. Have not tested the waterproof, shock proof, or freeze proof capabilities, but plan to soon, seems very rugged, well built. Overall very happy with my purchase. Takes better outdoor pics then flash pics.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Silver):
I haven't tested this camera yet for its claimed features, namely waterproofness, shock-proof etc.I bought it since we have a toddler who's likely to get his hands on it and we wanted to be worry free about the camera. Also, I wanted the AVC recording format.I have been somewhat dissatisfied with the camera's indoor shooting. Shots are generally soft and colors either over saturated (especially reds) or there appears to be too much blue tint biasing so that faces have a sickly look. The latter seems to occur under flash or flourescent lighting (there is no pre-selected white balance setting for flourescent lighting). Outdoor pics are much better. The HD video is the best feature of this camera; the AVC allows you to record as much as you want within the limits of the card.I had a ZS6 which I had bought from and returned to [...]. Its photos were much better quality, but it lacked the AVC recording format (the MJpeg limits you to only 2gb which is approx. 8min.)There are trade-offs involved when buying this type of camera. In hindsight, I think that it would have been better to have a camera whose first ability is taking great pics/video than being rugged...

I gave this to my son. He is in the NAVY, stationed in Cuba and scuba dives weeky. The underwater pictures are incredible, he has nothing bad to say about the camera. The land scape shots are great.
He is more enthused to get out and do more just to take pictures.

For the most part I use a camera for travel photos in places that are extremely humid or off the beaten track. That means that I need a camera that can take great quality photos in adverse conditions AND fit in a small space. So far, the Lumix has met all my requirements and has been easy to use. I can recommend it for anyone looking for an easy to use, compact, high quality camera.
