A little background: I've looked around for a while for a decent rugged camera. I've played with a bunch of the Olympus Stylus Tough cameras, but their general photographic quality was so awful that I preferred just keeping my old point and shoot in a mini pelican case and avoiding water. This camera's photographic quality and size (when compared to the Canon option) was just enough to take the plunge.
Overall, I'm very impressed and pleased with the purchase.
----The BAD-----
- No lens cap: Seriously? Really? Did someone think this made ANY sense? The decision to omit a lens cap/shutter is beyond me. When in wet environments you have to find something dry to wipe the lens. When it's in your pocket you're worried about scratching it up. I use an old Oakley sunglasses bag to store the camera ... which is a little silly for a "rugged" camera. This strikes me as the camera's biggest flaw.
-The second major issue is lens flare. Any direct sunlight fogs, flares, and totally kills image quality. Seeing that this is going to be used outside a lot ... it's annoying. It's easy to fix by using your other hand as a shade, but I use this climbing, etc... where one-handed operation is important. Most of the time though these are actions shots and the flare can add to the photo, so it's not a game killer.
- Connections: Doesn't use a mini USB port, which is common among many cameras and is just a small annoyance.
-Manual Controls?: doesn't seem that manual controls are a strong point of this camera, but I haven't cracked open the user manual ...
-Card formatting: Another BIG little issue is when a non formatted card is put in the camera, the camera just says something like "This card isn't setup for this camera." Leaving you to think that you're pretty much SOL....It doesn't ask if you want to format. Which is just dumb. You just have to dismiss the error and find the format card option, which is buried a bit in menus. Just one of those things though. I may have read a review here on someone who was livid because on their honeymoon they got this error and were unable to find the format card option, or just took the message on face value. This was the only MAJOR user interface issue that I have found so far.
----The GOOD----
- Battery Life: 3 solid days of canyoneering in Zion National Park with VERY frequent use didn't even bring the charge down to 50% ... good enough for me!
-Image quality: Pretty great given the camera's niche.
-Menus/Easy of Operation: I found this camera to be very intuitive. I always want the macro/flash settings easily accessible and they are! There is also this "Quick menu" or something which presents many of the cameras options in a very compact menu which I'm very impressed with.
-Video: Has some ADVHACQWERTY super video which I'm sure is cool, but is useless to me as you need some crazy super viewer to use it ... the MPEG quality is stellar for my needs. Even in low light. I use a 8GB card so file size isn't a big deal.
-The little LED light is kinda cool ...
- It's waterproof! I find myself doing stupid things like dropping it into puddles just cause i can and stuff like that. It's pretty awesome. I forgot I had the camera in my pocket and rappelled straight into a pool of water: no big deal. I've stood (or at least tried to) under 100ft+ waterfalls to see what kind of pictures / video would come out of it. It's just fun to have another option and a new world of photography to explore.

After my CanonSX200 got stolen and I read a lot of positive reviews I thought I'd give this unit a try. After all a little ruggedization certainly wouldn't hurt what with my children using it ... going to the beach .... playing in the snow etc. And I've used Panasonic Video gear for years. All very good.
Anyway it arrived. It is rugged. I hoped that as I got used to the operation my pictures would improve. But no. The more I use it the more I hate it. The menu system is stupid, the auto settings (which is all it has) are awkward and don't produce good results. ( bearing in mind I wanted an Auto camera for snaps!). The images produced in good light are average at best, and almost unviewable if theyr'e taken in even slightly low light. The camera throws itself to a security camera looking ISO of 1600 at the slightest opportunity. (yes you can restrict it to 800, but the pis are still sub-par).
The best images it can produce (ie focussed and exposed at ISO100) are still horrid to look at. Fuzzy ... harsh ...
Buy a Canon ... any of my pics going back to my cheapest Canon point and shoot are nicer to look at than what comes out of this thing.
Now I'm toting around a heavy dSLR and lenses until I can replace the 'snap' camera. Maybe an iPhone 4 ... the examples I've seen from then beat the pants off this. Wish someone would steal it.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera (Blue):
I purchased the camera on 5/30/11 and it's back to the manufacturer on 8/15/11 because the camera won't power up (turn on!). After taking it to Hawaii and having it produce reasonably good pictures both at the beach and underwater, you could see a haze start to develop on the viewfinder, resulting in hazy or cloudy photos. This haziness came and went for the next week, then stopped. When I returned home, I noticed that camera wouldn't power up. I sent it back to Panasonic and am awaiting news on its repair or replacement. I think that this camera and similar have poorly constructed water seals, so that regardless of who is using it, it will eventually fail. I'm saying this because I also have an Olympus All Weather (1050 SW), and it has not had these kinds of problems.

My husband and I bought the DMC-TS2 on recommendation from my uncle to take on our honeymoon to Jamaica. It was GREAT! We took it snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking. We didn't even have to worry about protecting it during the afternoon rain storms. The only time we got a fuzy picture was when we didn't wipe the salt water off the lenz. I can't imagine taking any other camera with us.

Incredible camera. Amazing technology crammed into this wee beastie. Lag time can be a pain and predicting your images can be hit and miss. Play with the functions, switch certain functions on and off and it can be sped up. Great in bright light, struggles with flash and speed in the dark. Under water amazing. Again, work with the settings. There's one in there to make it work really well! So many features. Incredible video. You can take this camera anywhere. 14.1mp, creates press quality images. Vivid colour and incredibly sharp Leica lens.

I have taken this camera to the springs three times and I love it. The pictures are fantastic, although they come out best when there's natural sunlight shining down. You have to load the CD to enable to video, and it takes some steps to upload the videos to places like FaceBook, but the videos come out clear and really nice.
I did buy a floating handle in case I drop it. The battery comes with the camera, but the card doesn't, so you'll need to buy that separately.

I had the DMC-TS1 and really liked it. I am going to take a trip this summer and wanted to up grade to the newer model. So far I really like it. It is easy to use, takes nice pictures and is more waterproof and rugged than the original.

I'm by no means a technical guru, but I bought this camera for an offshore fishing trip as well as the many camping/offroading trips I take every year. So far, I have ZERO complaints, it's takes fast clear pictures and I'm not worried about the toughness of the camera. It's sturdy, but not bulky and still fits in the back pocket of my jeans with no problems.

I had this camera for about two weeks ago and have shot over 1000 photos and 3 hours of video in and out of the water. I did some shallow dives in a spring and the pictures and video was amazing!! I've got 2 kids and it takes great pictures having the stabilizer cause they can't keep still. I did some 16x24 photos of the kids which are in there rooms and around the house. The HDMI is amazing to show off the camera's slideshow, music and collage.
I would defiantly recommend this camera to be the best all around camera.

I am a fisheries technician in Alaska so this camera is mostly for work. The camera withstands all elements--rain, cold, dust, and bouncing around. I have not used this camera underwater yet but I am sure it will exceed my expectations.

Bought this for a trip to jamaica where i knew it would get wet and go underwater. I wanted something that i could turn on, push the button and get a good photo. this is not the one. The sunny day beach photos were fine. Any cloud cover or shade and the photos are very noisy. underwater photos were average, about 1/3 that i took out of a few hundred were actually keepable. it did hold up to the elements though, mud, water, ect... friend of mine went with me and just bought the sony tx10. it's nearly half the size, all the photos were leaps and bounds above the ts2 quality. only reason i didn't buy the tx10 was because all the settings are touchscreen and i figured it would be hard to see it out in the sunlight and the screen might not work well underwater but it was fine and easy to use. for $30 more. get the tx10. i sent the ts2 back to exchange for the sony tx10.

Used the camera for snorkeling. Didn't go more than 6 feet deep. Very happy with picture quality and ease of use. Took great care not to let anything on the seals. Only changed battery in the room and followed instructions to preserve the seals. Water still got in. I was able to exchange it for the same camera and getting the waterproof housing for it.

Just bought this camera for a week trip to the Everglades. Haven't used it underwater yet, but land pictures are crisp and colors are sharp.
Menus are easy to navigate, similar to my previous Panasonic TZ1.
Remember that this camera is designed to work underwater so the zoom is not as large as other non-underwater cameras.
Can't give it 5 stars until I see how long the battery lasts with underwater use.

I bought this camera for a trip I took with my wife and son to visit family in the Philippines. It works great. We also have a non-waterproof Panasonic camera that works better in low light, but that's to be expected because this one's lens is much smaller. But in clear water it works fantastic. In the ocean, there are too many particulates to get clear pictures at more than 3' away. I'm very happy to have bought this camera.

I am a swimmer and a traveler and have been thinking about getting a waterproof camera for over two years. On my last trip to BraziI I was around water (the ocean, tropical rain storms, waterfalls, streams, mangrove swamp, etc.) the entire time and my former camera was in constant danger of getting wet. The day after I arrived home I bought the Panasonic TS2 and find that it fulfills my needs for both waterproofness and compactness (easily fits into my pocket) along with the shockproof protection it offers and its dust proof design.
I love the ease of use, clear pictures it takes, and its video capabilities. I do not like being without a camera and I am worry-free about carrying my TS2 wherever I go. I have always had great experiences with Panasonic products and only wish the company made a car.
The one thing I would recommend is getting a clear plastic cover to protect the LCD screen from being scratched.
