The Canon PowerShot SX210 IS Digital Camera (Purple) combines high-resolution,14.1MP imaging with a wide-range (28-392mm equivalent), optically stabilized 14x UA (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical) zoom lens that packs wide-angle to super-telephoto shooting capability in a snazzy little package.
Canon's PowerShot SX210 captures still images in a choice of 12 JPEG file sizes (including 2 @ 16:9) as well as HD 720p(1280x720) video clips (with stereo sound) up to 60 minutes (or 4GB per clip) as well as 640x480 @ 30 fps and 320x240 @ 30 fps for lower-resolution applications. And when shooting hand-held, walkabout video, the SX210 takes advantage of Canon's Dynamic mode to dampen the bumps along the way.
For hassle-free shooting, Canon's Smart AUTO mode automatically analyzes the scene and sets the best exposure based on 22 predefined shooting situations. For shooting under low lighting conditions, the ISO sensitivity of the PowerShot SX210 IS can be dialed up to 1600, and when shooting in Low Light mode, expanded as high as an equivalent of ISO 6400.
Other image-enhancing features found on the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS include Servo AF/AE Focus Tracking, which kicks in when you press the shutter-button halfway, a Smart Flash Exposure System, a DIGIC 4 image processor, 'Miniature' and 'Fisheye' filters, Intelligent Contrast Correction, Motion Detection Technology, Face Detection Self-timer, Red-eye Correction, Advanced AF/AE/FE/WB Face Detection, and a Face Detection Self-timer that enables you to get your own smiling face into family portraits.

I used this camera to record video and snap pictures of my nephew's high school graduation. Because I was seated far from the stage, I used the zoom and could see by the OSD that I was in digital zoom territory. While the image looked great on the camera's display, it was horribly pixelated when I viewed it on a computer. That said, I was aware the digital zoom was engaged, and a slight zoom out would've brought the picture back into optical zoom range, but like I said we were pretty far from the stage and if I wanted any sort of recognizable image, I needed to zoom way in. It was also very hard to hold steady at that magnification, therefore the resulting relatively stable image came as quite a surprise.
What impresses me most about this camera is its versatility, which is why I'm still learning it. There are just SO MANY settings allowing a multitude of possibilities. The wink, smile and face recognition self-timer is pretty nifty as well. Works every time.
I can't wait to use some of the unique effects, such as miniaturization.

Now that I've used it, I'll advise you that if processing speed (for action shots) and well focused images at higher magnification are qualities which are important to you then consider a different camera.

replaced my canon sd850is. so far its nice, there's a lot of new settings to get used to (and some that are gone, super fine photos and digital macro!) and it comes with a CD but I have a macbook air so I don't have a CD drive so at the moment, I can't learn about all the settings and stuff. it's lighter than it looks, the flash is in a bad spot but it's easy to get used to. pictures look good so far.

This camera takes wonderful stills AND shoots great video, too! With a tripod, I've shot some very nice video (without the tripod, I can't hold a small camera steady enough). The only thing I'd change is to make the zoom a bit smoother and more variable; if it reacted a tad slower it would be perfect for the casual videographer, and a fine substitute for a dedicated video camera. And the ZoomBrowser software included is a welcome addition to my postproduction options. Love it!

bigger than the Elph I had, but chose this Canon for its zoom and ability to charge battery outside of the camera(unlike comparable Nikon) the position of the popup flash is an issue and must be careful to position left hand. don't miss a viewfinder. have a heavier/larger slr Canon so this is the throw it in the pocket but still good pics camera. not as small as would have liked, but willing to forego size for performance.

Pictures were poorly exposed. There was yellow cast to most of the photos, and all pictures were noticeably fuzzy. I had several Canon cameras prior this one and all operated flawlessly. Hopefully this was just a bad unit and a replacement will renew my opinion of Canon cameras.

I have a semi pro DSLR Canon Camera and I bought this one to use it quickly when needed. This item has lots of functions. Both manual and auto modes are perfect. You can use manual settings like a photographer. Image quality is very good espeially under daylight. Only problem is, flash is located on left hand holding area and sometimes your finder will block the flash popup

I use this for everyday photography, mostly of my kids. I love that it's compact and light; I love that the automatic flash closes automatically too. And I love the zoom capacity.
