The Canon PowerShot SX210 IS Digital Camera (Black) combines high-resolution,14.1MP imaging with a wide-range (28-392mm equivalent), optically stabilized 14x UA (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical) zoom lens that packs wide-angle to super-telephoto shooting capability in a snazzy little package.
Canon's PowerShot SX210 captures still images in a choice of 12 JPEG file sizes (including 2 @ 16:9) as well as HD 720p(1280x720) video clips (with stereo sound) up to 60 minutes (or 4GB per clip) as well as 640x480 @ 30 fps and 320x240 @ 30 fps for lower-resolution applications. And when shooting hand-held, walkabout video, the SX210 takes advantage of Canon's Dynamic mode to dampen the bumps along the way.
For hassle-free shooting, Canon's Smart AUTO mode automatically analyzes the scene and sets the best exposure based on 22 predefined shooting situations. For shooting under low lighting conditions, the ISO sensitivity of the PowerShot SX210 IS can be dialed up to 1600, and when shooting in Low Light mode, expanded as high as an equivalent of ISO 6400.
Other image-enhancing features found on the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS include Servo AF/AE Focus Tracking, which kicks in when you press the shutter-button halfway, a Smart Flash Exposure System, a DIGIC 4 image processor, 'Miniature' and 'Fisheye' filters, Intelligent Contrast Correction, Motion Detection Technology, Face Detection Self-timer, Red-eye Correction, Advanced AF/AE/FE/WB Face Detection, and a Face Detection Self-timer that enables you to get your own smiling face into family portraits.
The Canon PowerShot SX210 IS records images onto your choice of SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus memory cards (up to 16GB) and powers off a rechargeable NB-5L lithium-ion battery, which is good for about 260 images-per-charge, or about 6 hours of playback time.
The PowerShot SX210 IS also includes spectacular movie functionality. With the Movie button, simply push and you can start shooting video and never miss the perfect moment. When shooting movies, you can get up close with the 14x Optical Zoom for riveting detail and realism, from the overall appearance to facial expressions! And the camera's Smart AUTO technology that helps ensure the perfect still image works to bring that same quality to your movies.
Now you can wait for the shot you want, with no need to reframe and refocus. With the shutter button pressed halfway, Servo AF/AE will continue to focus and track your subject as the moment you want to capture approaches. Press the shutter fully, and you've got your shot - with tight focus and perfectly calibrated exposure.

I wanted to like this camera and I do. The big surprise was that in side by side tests with my other Canon cameras it beat them all... it is sharper, the photos crisper, the color better than my G10, G9. It zooms not quite as far as my new SX20 but it FAR exceeds the SX20 in image quality. Plus, the SX210 is smaller and lighter. The SX210 will replace all of the above cameras when I travel or just have a camera with me. Would it replace an DSLR with a luxury lens that costs over $4000, probably not, but it's more convenient.
I'm keeping my SD940 and SD780 because they are small and convenient, too. Their image quality is excellent even if not as good as the SX210.
When shooting the test shots I with the SX210 I realized that detail I can't see with my eyes is there in the photos of a hibiscus I was using plus the range of color in the shots was more rich than my other cameras were capturing when viewed and enlarged on my computer screen.
There are a ton of features on this camera, but you don't have to learn them right away to get great photos. I'm impressed!
Canon got this camera right. It's a keeper.

Camera has a lot of great features, especially the zoom lens, but the time it takes between pictures is just too much, so the camera had to go back. After you take a picture the screen goes black for about a second before displaying the picture you took, then it shows that for a second before you are finally allowed to take another. We tried turning off the picture review, but then everyone was confused whether it actually took or not, because that seems to be pretty normal feature. I even bought a faster sd card to no avail. Believe all the reviews, it is pretty slow.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SX210 IS Digital Camera (Black):
This is a stylish camera with a LOT packed into a slim design. It allows you the choice of selecting the scenes and fine tuning the shot yourself, or, if you are a beginner, or don't want to worry about the set-up, you can dial up Auto and the Canon Power Shot takes care of everything! Only two relatively minor problems. One, is that the pop-up flash is right where you would naturally put your finger to use the camera. Two, is that the access to the USB and HDMI (that's right! this camera has an HDMI port!), is rather flimsy. It is held on by two thin plastic hinges which are not going to last long, if you are not VERY careful to treat it gently. Neither of these issues is insurmountable, and should not deter anyone from buying this WONDERFUL little Powerhouse!

I used this camera on vacation. It takes great shots. Not as compact as say the Canon SD900 so was obvious in my pocket. Nice to have when a bigger camera isn't practical to use. The extra functionality made it worth it though. The only thing I could ask for would be a better aperture.

Even though this camera is discontinued, I found it on B&H on a recommendation of a friend. I loved the 14x zoom, I was in Alaska and was able to take great photos using the zoom lens. The options for landscape and scenes helped enhance my photos. I also like the video capability of the camera since I used it to film wildlife and moving objects and the quality of the video is excellent

I bought this camera to use on trips such as going to the lake or a day at the zoo. This camera is great because the settings are user friendly..it was easy to use this from the beginning. If I could change something I would give more detail in the instruction manual about what settings to use while shooting. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase.

The camera is very easy to use. The zoom gets a lot closer than my previous point and shoot digital camera. Only complaint is that often in super zoom the camera is blurry due to not keeping your hands perfectly still.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SX210 IS Digital Camera (Black):
I've always wanted to own a Canon but for some reason, every time I went shopping for a digital camera I always went with another brand because of a cost decision or because I just figured that a Konica Minolta or Sony was better quality. I was wrong. Canon lives up to the hype and beyond my expectations. Shutter speed, ease of use and quality are all in this tight little package, all with a whopping 14 x optical zoom which is the clincher. The pop-up flash is a little annoying especially when you forget to move your finger, but all in all, the product is fantastic for the money and size. I bought this same product a year ago but lost the camera in a cab. I loved it so much that I decided to get the same one instead of upgrading to an SLR. It's functional and small enough for social situations and still high quality enough and durable to take outdoors for location/panoramic/wildlife shooting. Hi-def video also a plus.

I am very happy about the performance of the outdoor shots. Inside, I am still having trouble getting the green go ahead light for most shots. Also I get the orange blinker meaning camera should go on a tripod. I don't think I shake any more inside than I do outside. It is still all new to me, so hopefully soon I will rectify this. I like the zoomBrowser software that comes with it very much.

Cons: The smile detection doesn't work for me, it has a slow refresh after taking a shot, very poor placement of the flash, and lack of a decent wide angle image. Pros: Optical zoom is excellent, it takes great low-light images, image stabilization is good, controls are easy to use, and there are plenty of pre-sets for the casual photographer.
