I have been using the Canon SD450 for five years and after 10,000 photos I was ready to replace the camera. My new SD4000 IS has no trouble with low light photos, even in poorly lit rooms the image snaps bright and sharp.

I'm an obsessive macro photography nut and this new model gets even better shots - because of the shorter focal length plus the brighter lens.

The LCD screen could have been better protected. It is flush with the camera back and is actually the only flat surface on the camera, making it the only face to set it down on a table without it falling over. The screen should have been recessed a bit in the body, it's bound to scratch up he screen over time.

I use the camera mainly to take shots of items for sale online. I use the macro setting, a tripod and long exposures. I find that the SD4000 often sets the focus incorrectly. THERE IS NO MANUAL FOCUS FEATURE. The best you can do is use the Automatic Focus Lock and manually move the camera or subject farther/away while observing the screen, which is a pain.

To help compensate for the camera's poor focus, I tend to use Aperture priority and stop down to the max, but that provides only a bit of help. I fault Canon doubly, because it would have been simple for them to add a manual focus feature.

Every time the camera turns itself off, it forgets the macro setting and the self-timer setting, and every time I power it up, I have to re-enable these settings, because those are the settings I need. The camera has no "make current settings the defaults".

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Black):

The fast lense on this camera allows for some excellent shots in lower light without having to resort to slow shutter or high ISO (grainy) photos. Only thing I miss is a bigger zoom - but it's tough to get both. I'll take the better pictures ;-)

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Black):

I haven't even used all the camera's features yet, but so far I am extremely pleased. I use it for indoor and outdoor photos, and it takes better photos indoors than any camera I have ever had. The flash works incredibly well and for someone who is not the most camera savy, it takes care of all the technical stuff for me!
    I am extremely pleased!

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Black):

I bought this after losing my Olympus 1030sw (waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, temperatureproof) camera and could not find a decent replacement for my time on the water (kayak, canoe, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness). I have used it for 2 weeks and am pretty pleased about the quality of images (FAR better than the Canon D10 and the Olympus T610, both of which show "halo" effect and have pixelation).
I am so far pleased with this little camera. I would go back to the 1030 in a heartbeat though.

As grandparents who love spending quality time with grandchildren, it is also very important to develop a reservoir of memories. My purchase of the PowerShot SD4000 was a very wise decision. Very easy to use, but most of all, I am now getting a flood of great quality pictures that will allow me to add to that library of pictures that I will cherish for a long time.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Black):

I've been owned a variety of Canon Powershots since 2002. All have been great, except for this model. This camera cannot get the exposure correct when the flash is used, ALWAYS overexposed. The daytime shots are excellent, what I would expect from Canon. Great durability as well. But I'm getting tired of continuously having to use exposure compensation to take shots with the flash.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Black):

I use it for the camera I have with me all the time. I also use it for spontaneous HD video. I love (really) the form-factor - it slides into my pocket like a phone and has a great non-slip feel. Once mastered (it takes a while) the controls (combo of toggle wheel and screen) are easy and sensible. I like that I can use it with or without glasses, since the words and symbols are nice and large. I use Aperture Priority 99% of the time, so this is a plus. EV compensation via toggle wheel is well thought through, and easy to use. Image quality is pretty good (albeit not like my Nikon DSLR), although RAW would be nice. With the F2 setting, it shoots in very low light, which was a big factor in my choice. Love the wide screen for shooting/viewing video. Preview-shoot select button is easy and quick. Startup (on-off) is instant.

Wish I had more zoom at times. But it is an OK tradeoff. Price dropped $25 just after I bought it, but that is no big deal. Switching from camera to video and back is fiddly. But these are minor.

This camera has a good deal of bang for it's buck and it's size. It's definitely a step above the lower cost point and shoot digital cameras, but doesn't have the bulk of the higher end point and shoots or digital SLRs.
          I would recommend it!

I like the "minature setting" and have had fun playing with that.
It is a little bit harder than i would think to get a good shot while out at night and the pictures can sometimes be out of focus for no apparent reason. but generally speaking it is a very good camera with a wide variety of functions to work with.

I just purchased the Elph sd4000 after owning the sd450 for 5 years. The sd4000 camera has the perfect balance of video/still quality, size, weight and battery life. Overall, this camera is an exceptional value.

Bought it for my 15 year old son who reports that he shot 400 pictures the first week and has zero issues with it. Shutter lag does not seem to be an issue, which is the biggest concern with small cameras.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Black):

We didn't want to spend more than $200 for a camera [...] we love this camera! We have a toddler that moves like a small ferret often looking like a blur in pics, our house is an older dimly lit victorian apt and in the past we wouldn't bother taking our camera out because the power on time would take so long that the moment was gone.Problems over!I can take a crystal clear shot in a matter of seconds from pocket to shot, have been really happy with auto setting for point and shoot moments and can snap away with barely any lag time. The response time rules.. The video is beautiful and not jerky or shakey. Sound quality is fine. The lcd screen is Huuuge and clear. Also, there is a lot of nice options for viewing the pics like scrolling etc. The camera is intelligently laid out so not a lot of manual reading needed unless you want to really check out it's features.I carry this camera everywhere in my small hip purse. It's not too heavy but has a a nice weight to it so it won't get away from you. Also, the black color is made out of metal and it has a brushed finish feel giving it a grippy feeling so one-handed shots feel secure. The one slight con I have is the zoom at its maximum could be clearer but I actually knew that this wasn't it's strongest attribute so am not disappointed. I have taken low light, nighttime, bright light, indoor, outdoor, nature, close up and group shots and have yet to be frustrated, quite the opposite. In short, we couldn't be happier with our awesome little SD4000 point and shoot.

Great for point-n-shoots. Nice 2.0 lens @ 28mm - use it wide open for best results. Enjoy the tilt-shift feature very much. EXCELLENT p&s for[$]!Video is sharp but tends to focus a bit. Really cute slo-mo feature.Solid feel - but a little small. If you have big hands, this would be a tough one.Very fast overall with nice color & quiet functionality. The shutter is very fast--I was surprised by this

it's small and lite! takes photos really fast and they came out with a really good quality!
the video is also in very good quality...
also the pictures during night time comes out really nice,
there are many options in the camera and it's really easy to handle...
i guess it's good more for everyday use and less for people who want to take scenery pictures.
