The Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Kit w/ EF-S/18-55 IS II incorporates a number of advanced pro-DSLR features in a compact and very affordable camera body. Driven by a DIGIC 4 image processor, the T2i contains a high-resolution 18.0 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, and can capture JPEGs, RAW (14-bit, Canon original), or RAW+JPEG stills at burst-rates of up to 3.7 frames-per-second. The EOS Rebel T2i can also capture full 1080p HD video with monaural sound, or stereo sound when using (optional) 3.5mm external microphones.
In addition to the camera's bright eye-level optical reflex viewfinder, the Rebel T2i also features Advanced Live View (with a dedicated Live view/Movie button) for composing and editing your stills and video using the T2i's 3.0" Clear View LCD, which contains a whopping 1.04 million dots of resolving power.
Additional image enhancing tools include Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone, which further improve detail in the highlight, mid-tone, and shadow areas in both stills and videos. As you'd expect there's also a 3-point Dust Deletion System and the option of shooting in either sRGB or Adobe RGB.
Videophiles will appreciate the Rebel T2i's Improved EOS Movie mode that allows for full manual exposure control, expanded recording 1920 x 1080 (Full HD), 30p (29.97) / 24p (23.976) / 25p, 1280 x 720 (HD), 60p (59.94) / 50p, 640 x 480 (SD), 60p (59.94) / 50p), Movie Crop recording in 640 x 480, and an external microphone IN terminal for improved sound quality.
An enhanced 63-zone dual-layer metering system and a 9-point AF system featuring a precision f/2.8 cross-type center point enable rapid focusing and accurate exposures. For low-light shooting, the Rebel T2i features an ISO range of 100-6400, which can be expanded to an equivalent of 12800 when necessary, and there's a Quick Control Screen that enables easy access to frequently used settings.
The Canon EOS Rebel T2i records imagery onto a choice of SD memory card, SDHC memory card, or SDXC Memory Cards and powers off an LP-E8 lithium-ion battery, which is good for up to 550 still exposures or 1 hour and 40 minutes of video recording. The EOS Rebel T2i is compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S optics. For CAEDRT2IK only - The Canon Rebel T2i kit comes with an image stabilized Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS II zoom lens, which has an equivalent focal range of a 28.8 - 88mm lens on a full-frame (24x36mm) 35mm camera.
The Canon DIGIC 4 Image Processor dramatically speeds up the entire EOS Rebel T2i's camera operations for intuitive operation and offers improvements in both fine detail and natural color reproduction. It works in concert with the EOS Rebel T2i's CMOS Image Sensor to achieve phenomenal levels of performance in nearly any situation.
Along with its manual controls, the EOS Rebel T2i allows for full use of Canon EF and EF-S lenses, including Macro and Fisheye, providing a plethora of shooting options once reserved only for still photography. The resulting HD video is a standout in its beautiful depth-of-field characteristics and remarkable capture capability under poor lighting conditions. In a first for EOS cameras, a Movie Crop function is included; An SD-quality movie (640 x 480) can be cropped to the equivalent of about 7x magnification of regular shooting.
Video can be captured at a number of resolutions and frame rates for numerous applications. It can capture 1920 x 1080 Full HD video at frame rates of 24 (23.976), 25 or 30 (29.97) frames per second, for up to 4GB per clip. Movies are saved as MOV files and can be viewed in Full HD through the EOS Rebel T2i's HDMI output. Other recording sizes include HD at 1280 x 720 (50/60 (59.94) fps) or SD/VGA at 640 x 480 (50/60 (59.94) fps). The EOS Rebel T2i has a built-in microphone for simple mono recording and stereo sound can be recorded through a self-powered external microphone.
Additionally, the EOS Rebel T2i has a high-precision, 9-point AF system utilizing a high precision, f/2.8 cross-type center point. The 9-point AF system uses both normal and high-precision focus depending on the aperture and available light. The 9 focus points can be chosen automatically or manually selected.

As a photography student, yearbook photographer, and someone using the T2i as a tool to make money, I am very happy with it. If you are new to buying a DSLR like I was, you may be weighing the T2i against other models like the Nikon D7000 or D3100. After a ton of research and some conversations with professional photographers, I found that the real difference between Nikon and Canon users seems to be brand bias. Of course, there are different applications for the cameras, for example the faster shutter burst speed on the Nikon D7000 makes it better suited for fast action photography. It appears, however, that the T2i is the most versatile for its price. The D3100 is comparable to the T2i in price, but is inferior in its specifications, while the D7000 is comparable in its specifications but at $500 more the small step up in ability seems over-rated. The T2i is a incredible value, with the highest resolution in picture quality and display. High resolution isn't everything, but when using the T2i to make money it is great to be able to print larger photos and have the ability to crop while maintaining high resolution. Some (supposed) Negatives: 1. The T2i has a plastic body. Some see this as a downside, but I don't think the metal Nikons are any more durable. I have dropped the camera from four feet onto pavement and it only has two small chips on the surface. The plastic is uncommonly durable, it seems like a completely different kind than electronics are usually made of. 2. The mode wheel has scene modes (presets) and doesn't rotate 360 degrees. I guess for professionals the presets are insulting on a camera this expensive, but I don't see how that makes sense. The presets are actually really accurate and useful if you don't feel like adjusting on manual for a quick shot or if you just want something reliable and quick. 3. Button locations. This is really just a preference, like I prefer the shutter dial near my thumb the way it is on my Nikon N70, but it's just an adjustment and not actually anything bad. 4. Auto focus in Live View. Using Live View is fun to mess around, but the focus is too slow and often inaccurate to take action shots or even portraits. There is a setting that allows focus through the 9 point system, but the shutter must close to focus which confuses people (about when the picture is done) and still ends up taking longer to get the shot. Auto focus without Live View however is extremely fast, easy and accurate. 7. Loud Shutter. The shutter on the T2i is one of the loudest i've heard. This isn't a problem unless the noise disrupts a subject (animal or something), which I haven't experienced yet, though I have shot animals and they seemed not to notice. People can easily hear the shutter from at least five feet away, which is why Live View auto-focus, as mentioned above, is confusing to subjects. 6. Upgrade from the T1i? A common criticism of the T2i is that it is barely an upgrade from its predecessor. While this is kind of true, The improvements are noticeable, especially in the screen quality, video fps and iso. Also the ability to plug in an external stereo microphone is essential to anyone interested in film -making (the built in mic picks up every movement in the lens and an unbearable amount of wind). Overall, this camera is incredible. It's applications are extremely versatile, with the one exception being fast action photography. The T2i takes great sports photos, but it's on the slow side of DSLR's, meaning you might not catch the right moment. Everything else is wonderful; the T2i has superior video, indoor/ low light, portrait abilities, screen resolution, brightness and viewing angle, and overall is an incredible shooting experience. In all, the T2i performs excellently in almost any situation or application.

Cheap to buy for a Video DSLR. Images are excellent at low ISO's, but video falls apart over 800 ISO.
The best way to start if you just don't have the cash.
This is a great B cam for event video, but it lacks many professional features. The most important missing feature is full ISO control. You have access only to 100, 200, 800, 1600, 3200 and 6400. And anything over 800 looks pretty lousy.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Kit w/ EF-S/18-55 IS II:
LEVEL OF FAMILIARITY: amateur / intermediate
USES: landscapes, urban/nature, people (esp. a baby), food (blog),
PROS: after reading the manual I felt like this was a camera I could handle which speaks well to its actually being "entry level"; the automatic features are nice for when you want the camera to think for you (not a dig-- taking care of that opens the photographer up to think about other elements of taking the photo) while the manual features give varying level of control for experimenting; excellent image quality in most (except especially dark) lighting situations; continuous shooting mode is a delight and quite quick, though flash slows it down a bit; optional live view; superb image quality
CONS: plastic body feels cheap; sometimes the auto-focus cannot keep up with how quickly I'm taking photos; hidden underneath the upfront cost are the ENDLESS accessories that will improve image quality-- e.g. external flash (as is evident by all the "informational" booklets that come inside the box along with the camera)
SUMMARY: I'm very excited to be getting my feet wet with a dSLR and glad to have put a little extra money towards an entry-level model. I considered going with the most basic that Canon has to offer (the T3), but I read so many reviews warning there was better out there that I finally settled on the T2i. The "pros" definitely outweigh the "cons" and I'm happy so far with my purchase. I would definitely recommend it to anyone getting wanting to get further into photography-- looking for more freedom, versatility, higher-end technology, and learning opportunities than any point-and-shoot models can accommodate!

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Kit w/ EF-S/18-55 IS II:
I have been waiting for this camera for 2 years even after the t3i came out, I still wanted the t2i. So my dad bought it for me for christmas of 2011. I already knew canon was an amazing brand due to my other canon cameras and nothing is comparable. I took my t2i to a christmas get-together and everyone wanted my camera and everyone was so amazed at the clarity of the photos and the quality. It takes photos super fast which benefits people like me who can't catch "moments". And I MUST mention the amazement I felt when I took a photo with the light off in my room with my tiny tv on and the photo came out as if it was daylight in my room, therefore the low-light shots are crazy amazing! It's overall the best camera I've ever owned and I honestly wouldn't choose anything else!

I am a non-professional, buying my first digital SLR, after being a Canon user for the past 15 years. I am such a fan of this camera - the price was right and it is as user friendly as my old Rebel. Wonderful picture quality and so many options - I am sure I have only scratched the surface. And B&H is just the best... a very happy customer!

I love it. First DSLR, and I know its not top of the line, but I am just using it for recreational purposes. Its more than what I really need, but if I ever need certain features they are there. Still have a lot to figure out, but its a great product, and useful for events. I purchased it refurbished, but there wasn't one thing wrong, not even the body, no scratches or anything. Great product.

I have been using the T2i at my sons wrestling meets. It does an excellent job at taking clear pictures and the shutter speed is just right to pick up all of the action. I love the continuous shot mode. I am fairly new to the photography world and this camera makes it easy.

I have used this product to record videos of live music. The sound quality is wonderful. You can only record in 30 minute segments which can be a bit obnoxious at times but as long as you remember that you should be fine.
