GoPro, known for their mountable cameras, presents the HD HERO Naked Wearable Camera. Why "Naked"? This HD video/still camera is compatible with ALL GoPro HERO camera mounting accessories; that means you can mix and match optional accessories for quick setup in any number of applications. With the appropriate optional mounting accessories in place you'll be ready to film with your helmet, vehicle, RC car, surfboard, and anywhere else you can stick a mount. All you'll have to do is pop the camera into place and go.
Now the next thing you're wondering about is: "What kind of HD video does the camera shoot?" The HD HERO Naked records in multiple high definition resolutions, including: 1920 x 1080/30p, 1280 x 960/30p, 1280 x 720/60p, and 1280 x 720/30p. The camera uses a 5MP 1/2.5" HD CMOS sensor to help capture beautiful H.264 HD footage, along with help from a fixed focus (2.0' - infinity lens with f/2.8 aperture) lens, low-light sensitivity of 1.4 lux, and automatic exposure control and auto white balance. The status LCD on the front of the camera indicates settings to help you dial the camera in.
The Naked loves water too. This camera is waterproof up to 197' (60 m). That is of course when this little honey is safely tucked away in the included waterproof housing. That housing also protects from dust and dirt. In addition to water safety the camera features a rechargeable 1100mAh lithium-ion battery with a lifespan of 2.5 hours. The Naked also has a built-in battery warmer to protect the power source from cold during extreme winter activities. How cute. And, ingenious.
What else, you ask? Well, as previously mentioned the Naked takes 5MP photos. It can do the traditional one photo snap shot thing, or you can set it to shoot at 2 / 5 / 10 / 30 and 60 second intervals until you either shut the camera off, the memory card fills up, or the battery conks out. You can also set the camera to take a series of three shots or set it to record using the self-timer.
Last, but certainly not least, the Naked also boasts "Audio Excellence". The good folks at GoPro have super-secret audio nerds who reportedly "obsess" over audio. GoPro promises that the Naked isn't just picking up white noise, but the actual sound of your voice and your activity. Nice!

Keeping in mind this is a $259 camera, of which, I have owned 3:
Issues:
- I have had 1 GoPro completely die within a week of purchase
- I have had stuck pixels on 1 of 3 I own
- Very picky about SD cards. Buying the "best" card does not mean it will work better with a GoPro. Buy a Kingston Class 4 and be done with it...trust me
Pros:
- Mounting Options - Way better than a contour. More versatile, more variety.
- Mounting positions - its depth means it can go places the countour cant
- waterproof case
- durable - we have thrown them out of planes, and they have survived impact
Cons:
- Purple stripe (lens flare) in the video - much like a lens flare, the waterproof case causes a purple band to show up in your video when facing anywhere near the sun
- Overall reliability
- Black plastic piece on the case tends to break easily
Overall:
These currently are the go-to camera for casual skydiving video. They are great for what they are - cheap cameras for casual video. File formats are easy to work with, and do look pretty good.
For $259, they are cheap and disposable, and I can sacrifice some of my standards for the interesting angles a GoPro can provide!

This camera is a great camera, but works best in sunshine. If there's shade, it doesn't work as great.
This camera only seems to take great pictures and video if it is mounted. So don't plan on ever holding it with your hands and taping something and expecting it to be amazing quality.
All cameras should probably come with a tripod mount, but at least it's somewhat cheap to purchase separately.
The battery lasts a long time, however aiming the camera once it's mounted is a pain and you'll never know what you've got until you get it home since there is no viewfinder or LCD screen on this camera.
This camera is very hyped and most people get it and realize that they don't actually do extreme sports that often and hardly use it. And the trick is, once you get this camera, to get the full use out of it, you'll probably need to buy all the mounts and extras...

I use this camera for creating fishing videos. Great picture quality and easy to work with. Downside is sound quality, but it is wrapped in a water proof case, so sound is diminished.

In regard to the equipment I purchased. It was everything that you
advertised. However, we were not aware that we needed a seperate piece of
equipment to observe what we were shooting. Of course we will purchase the
item but was disappointed that it wasn't a part of the camera as purchased.
We were going to send it over seas with a gentleman from Liberia and when
we saw that piece not on it, we knew that he would never be able to take
the video we needed. Again just an inconvenience but the gentleman had to
leave the evening that we recieved the equipment therefore, we could not
get the video we needed until later in the year.

I'm using this for time lapse movies and the ease of use and quality of the images are outstanding. In addition, its video capability is equally as good. You'll definitely need the instruction insert to properly set it up the first few times but after that, it's a snap. The actual process of producing a time lapse movie is a little cumbersome and you'll need a freeware utility to batch processes the 5Mb images down to a usable size but that's not a camera issue. Would like to see housing that accepts the mini USB but that's on the horizon.

I bought for my Son for his scuba diving adventures. I would also like to thank B&H because we had a very short "delivery window" before my Son was leaving the country. Their timely processing and shipping combined with UPS delivery we knew what stage the delivery process was in all the time.

Had it for 2 weeks so fare. Great tough camera for using in places I would not use my DSLR for video. I mostly use it for a car dash cam. I just use the package stand to hold the camera up right on the dash board. Have not tried in water yet but don't think that will be a problem. If you are looking for a rugged camera this is it. Not much in features but, small and rugged. Also like the time laps photo options.
Add in I would like to get: suction cup mount, rear display, skeleton case, tripod mount

I am diving in Cozumel Mexico and bought the GoPro to film the dive while I am taking pictures. The GoPro has worked on and off but what happens is that it turns on and runs for a period of time and then stops and I cannot start the video or shut the camera down. I have to get out of the water take the camera out of the case, pull the battery then put the camera back in the case and I get another video on the next dive. This is not what I wanted.

Comments about GoPro HD HERO Naked Wearable Camera:
The camera has been used both as a helmet cam on the bicycle and on skis. I rode from the West Coast to Minnesota last summer and have some beautiful footage of excruciating climbs in Idaho along with some high speed stuff with the wind at my back across the Great Plains. Much of this footage has been incorporated into a presentation I have done at a few local bike stores. On skiis the camera has been used by my son throughout Colorado. He is a great freestyle skier and much frightening video has been taken of the sky and the world spinning as he takes jumps and goes head over heels or rotates like a top. Great still photography also.
My son has managed to misplace some of the mounting parts and improvisation is difficult, but I cant blame the camera for that. I have just given one of these to my 13 year old nephew and my sister hopes it doesnt inspire him to imitate my son.I hope it does. Great fun!

The GoPro HD Hero is a great camera on so many levels. It is a great POV camera, mountable almost anywhere, a versatile time-lapse machine that will cover any special need, and a great little still camera.
The only downside is that you really have to learn the menu structure. Not difficult, but necessary.

Comments about GoPro HD HERO Naked Wearable Camera:
I amazed that this "fish eye" lens with camera has broken down the price barriers inherent with specialized camera lenses. The digital quality is great for my primary use in website work. This newer model has sufficient pixels to use it for documentary work on the run. (Post edit needed inner-views later on. Simply crop view areas and also remove the natural geometric distortion, (in case normal lens perspectives are ultimately needed).
My one disappointment is the exposed lens, which could use a rim-shield. Yet this problem is shared by most brands. The provided transparent case also exposes it's own added lens cover. These naturally bulging structures need an additional wire-ring shield. I'm going to modify it to better fit my personal documentary work flow.

I am a Video Operations Manager and have been producing video for over 25 years. When I saw what this little camera could do with all of the attachment possibilities, I knew that a new genre of videography was born. I have used this camera in all of its settings and will say that it is one of the simplest, best made, easy to use cameras EVER invented. There is no limit to what you can do with a GOPRO.
GOPRO is also focused on customer satisfaction. That is a rarity in the consumer world today. I have had great experiences and prompt service when contacting GOPRO with various questions.
Even though the GOPRO has been available for several years, it continues to re-define how people shoot video. I own 2 and probably will own many more in the future. THANKS GOPRO.

We used this to video salmon in the Campbell River, British Columbia in August. The wide-angle of the lens made the video less than optimum but the camera performed well under conditions which were challenging at times -- the underwater casing was banged into a rock more than once as we snorkeled in white water for the shots we desired. Video viewable at Snorkeling with Salmon in the Video Galleries of The Birding Commons.

These are absolutely the best for many different applications. While they may not have interchangeable lenses(5D/7D), they are highly compact, have a better compression codec, and are waterproof. And inexpensive. Very simple menu operation.
