Cloaked in classic black, the Olympus E-P2 is a hybrid photo and HD movie camera that boldly brings fun and simplicity back to SLR quality. It is part of the Micro Four Thirds (4/3) camera system that enables pro-quality still and video imaging abilities in a small, unassuming package. Along with a line of compact M.Zuiko digital lenses, the system is compatible with all existing 4/3-format fixed-prime and zoom lenses from 7mm through 800mm (114° to 1.5° AOV).
The camera is essentially a 4/3-format DSLR minus the prism and mirror housing, hence the smaller body size. Images can be composed and edited using the E-P2's 3" HyperCrystal LCD, which features anti-reflective coatings on its surface to enable live viewing of 100% of the image area under the brightest of lighting conditions. When shooting with manual focus, a 5x magnification of the center of the frame pops up as a focusing aid each time you adjust the focusing ring. (This magnification can be can be manually increased up to 10x.)
The E-P2 features a port for the optional VF-2 electronic viewfinder or the optional EMA-1 external microphone. Clad in ergonomically-designed stainless-steel body panels, the Olympus E-P2 takes many design queues from the Olympus Pen F, a popular half-frame SLR that made its initial debut in 1959. But unlike the original Pen F, the E-P2 has the ability to produce vividly-detailed still photographs and HD video with stereo sound, both of which can be enhanced post-capture using the E-P2's advanced in-camera retouching and audio dubbing tools.
The E-P2 includes a picture mode called iEnhance, which analyzes colors and brightness. The new mode mimics what the naked eye sees. For example, a beautiful sunset looks awesome in person and generally seems to fade when captured in an image. With iEnhance, the warm yellow and orange colors are heightened to be brilliant and closer to the actual scene. The result is exceptionally clear imaging with a dramatically lifelike color. iEnhance can be used in any shooting mode - from program to manual - and automatically engages when in iAuto. This, along with the 8 art filters, allows you to take perfect, creative images.
Other features found on the Olympus E-P2 include i-Auto mode, dust reduction technology, in-camera image stabilization-which enables low-light hand-held shooting with all 4/3-system lenses, advanced shooting modes, and creative post-capture editing tools.
This kit includes a compact 14-42mm M.Zuiko Digital zoom lens, which with an angle-of-view of 74-28.5°, is an equivalent to a 28-85mm lens on a full-frame DSLR.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
Bought the body+lens kit combo. Added the Lumix 20mm lens and the VF-2 eyepiece. The latter two items made a great camera body really sing. I use manual focus almost exclusively and have found the assisted focusing very effective with the viewfinder.
The whole setup is just slightly smaller than my old Nikon F4 with a 50mm prime on it. I've been waiting many years for someone to make an interchangeable lens system on a modestly sized body and this is why I finally purchased this. DSLR's are cumbersome monsters.
Almost purchased the Lumix body, but was sold on the EP2 for the viewfinder...far superior to the one offered for the Lumix.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
Nice to have a solidly constructed digital camera again. We've used Olympus cameras in our industrial work for many years and the reliability has always been good. The E-P2 is solid, well constructed with controls laid out in the traditional Olympus standards. Picture and lens quality seem good so far. Haven't gotten the adapter for standard Olympus digital lenses, but the package lens is good. The unlock on the lens to allow it to extend for operation is a little awkward but should just take a little getting used to.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
This is a wonderful camera to own. I have it just for a week and completely sold by its convenience and capable of doing photography! I just love it. The most useful function I have test is under manual - I am coming from the Nikon side therefore I spend sometime learn how to use its universal dial control and finally got it going. My comes with a 14-42mm lens which equals to 28-84mm on 35mm camera. I especially appreciate its image stabilization functionalities and it works great. Another trick I learned from this lens is that there is a push button to shrink the lens to its lowest position. The video function is also wonderful with high resolution video recording at a touch. I am not sure I learned how the AEL button works. The only thing confused me was the low light noise - I did not know why but my camera showed a very noisy image captured starting ISO1600 all the way up. The image autofucus worked just like a charm in this environment but the image quality was not good due to the sparking noise all around. Handle feeling is great - the feeling tells that this is one of the "pro" thing indeed. It is almost not going to fit my pocket but it did - and I am thinking of designing a specific bag for it - since two of the bags from B&H did not meed my needs. Above all, I would definitely recommend it - once I figured out why the low light noise was an issue on my camera.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
As a person who loves taking pictures--GOOD pictures--but has no desire to go professional, I felt constrained by my pathetic Nikon point-and-shoot, but didn't want to invest thousands upon thousands of dollars in DSLRs that various friends of mine had purchased.
This camera is the PERFECT in-between camera. It quickly takes clear, crisp, pictures with beautiful color. Even with just auto mode, I feel like I get what I want when I press the shutter button, whereas before I would have to fiddle around with settings upon settings to try and get something satisfactory.
This camera also has fun "art" modes to give your picture cool effects--great for those of us who are more Picasa than CS5 :)
In sum, this camera was exactly what I was looking for. I just want GREAT pictures on-the-go without spending a bundle. This camera delivers, but has so much other functionality that it enables (and challenges me) to expand my knowledge of photography without feeling like I have to throw down my life savings to do so.
Plus, could you ask for a better, or more retro-chic travel camera?? I argue no! :) Happy shooting!

I've always thought it would be great to have a handy backup camera to my rather bulky Canon30D. Olympus E-P2 perfectly meets my need. Compact enough to fit it to small space in the bag, yet producing wonderful prints. But a couple of things to consider before purchase, (i) you may not make much muse of the electrical viewfinder, though it gives a slightly bright and sharp images. (ii) images on the LCD panel appear crude with some disturbing reddish hues (again, no problem when stored in the computer or produced as prints).

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
Bought the camera (with view finder and flash)to avoid carrying my Nikon D700 and f2.8 lenses that weigh a ton. The camera is very good as a travel camera, but forget about photos in low light. It simply will not focus. Picture quality is first rate, I use jpg format and am amazed at the overall quality of the photos. Build quality (excepting the lens) is excellent, the build of the lens leaves a great deal to be desired although as I said before the photos are first rate. By all means GET the view finder, it is indispensable in bright sun light. The flash is OK, nothing spectacular, but it does the job as a fill flash. The camera has been knocked for slow focus, but I find it no problem for 95% of my work. The menu system works great once you figure out how to use it (takes a little time but worth it).

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
Compared to entry-level DSLRs from the likes of Canon or Nikon, the build quality of this camera is superb. It comes in a small form factor that makes it easy to pocket inside a coat pocket with a pancake mounted. Just don't try to pocket it inside a jeans pocket, it will look silly. The camera handles great and feels well-balanced in hands. The image quality is on par with the other cropped DSLRs if shot in RAW up to ISO800. Auto-white balance and exposure metering just works. Focusing is a tad slower than DSLRs but good enough as it never takes longer than a second to lock-on. While the art filters are great fun to play with, diorama and pinhole are too slow to use. Video mode is decent but file sizes are large compared to the competition because of the use of MJPEG.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
I gave up an extensive dSLR system for the portability of m43, and frankly it was the best thing I've done (photographically) in years. Now I actually carry the camera around with me most of the time, without being stared at. Excellent! Some aspects took a bit of getting used to after a dSLR, but only because it was all new. The kit 14-42 is ok but not a stunner. The 9-18 is excellent, as is the 14-150. With relatively cheap adapters you have access to a wealth of third party manual lenses, which are all effectively image stabilized because of the in-camera stabilization system. That in itself was a selling point for me. The standard recommended flash, FL14 seems pretty weak, so I got an FL20, which is unfortunately discontinued now.

We have only had this camera a few weeks, but are enjoying it. It's weighted well for holding, and perfect size. We are still learning all the features, but it is taking really nice pictures. We use it mainly indoors so far for pictures of the kids and pets, (winter and rainy out) but it is taking beautiful pictures and the color in the photo are just right. Even though it does a good job with low light, we will be getting a flash to improve pictures. We are really excited as we learn how to work all the functions and take variety of photos. Only complaint is too much movement (wiggly kids) will be blurry. That may be a camera thing, or a user thing.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
I hemmed and hawed between this and the Panasonic Gf1 for months before going with the Oly. Not having handled either camera in person it was a bit of a leap for me. I was looking for something that could mount (with an adapter) my fast, fixed focal length lenses. I own a number of manual focus lenses and one can find a lot of used classics for bargain prices. The main reason I went for the E-p2 was the in-body stabilization as opposed to the in-lens used by Panny. A 1.4 lens with the stabilizer can go into some pretty dim situations at low to moderate ASA allowing me to avoid using a flash. (Ep-2 has no pop-up flash, one has to be mounted on the hot shoe). When using a manual focus lens on the camera I set the mode dial to M. Aperture is set on the lens barrel and is not recognized by the camera software. The shutter speed is easily adjusted on the function wheel with your right hand thumb. A nice feature in this mode is a "test picture" feature allowing you to dial in your settings before you start saving to the card. It's a fun little camera with very nice image quality.
Some of my gripes with it are similar to any Nikon or Canon DSLR I have used, there is always a feature I like using lost in the menus. The function button can be set to do a number of things. The two I find most useful are Test Picture and One Touch White balance. In order to set these you must access the menu. I chose the kit lens 14-42 knowing I am occasionally recruited at work to shoot a quick grip-and-grin or portrait for the web. I find it capable but lacking personality. I eventually may buy one of the Oly or Panny fixed AF lenses down the road.
My experience with the E-p2 has been overall good. The layout of the shutter and aperture controls work for me( I wear a large mens glove), The camera will export RAW files as well as the very nice in camera jpegs, and the build quality of the camera body is nice with solid feel to it. It's nice for walking around with and as is perfectly capable of some very nice images when attached to a microscope or bellows.

With the optional VF-2 electronic viewfinder this is a great compact camera, especially for one who wears glasses for reading. No more glasses on and off between the viewfinder and LCD display as with a DSLR. EVERY menu is available in the viewfinder! Simply adjust the VF-2 diopter and that's it. I am even considering selling my Canon 5DII in favor of this camera alone.

I am still learning to use the camera. I took it to Washington, DC and made some good pictures of the attraactions. It excelled at a family gathering. We made excellent pictures of people without the flash in a resturant. I think that with time I will appreciate all the features more.

I purchased the camera to use when traveling, I have found it to be very functional. It takes great shots, can be used in a variety of settings and is light to carry and easy to pack. It worked well under low light conditions and also in photographing fireworks using the pre-programmed settings. It does seem to use of its battery fairly quickly and is a little too much shutter lag, but its benefits far outweigh its cons. This is my first Olympus and I have been quite pleased.

Comments about Olympus E-P2 Pen Digital Camera w/ 14-42mm Zuiko Lens (Black):
For travel and casual shooting, my excellent DSLR is heavy and large, my small digital too noisy at any but the lowest ISO. The Olympus E-P2 is small and light and with extra lenses and flash fits in a tiny bag. Images are excellent - even in low light - though the contrast-based AF is slower than the phase contrast on most DSLRs, especially in low light. TIP: AF is faster using a single AF point instead of the default multiple point setting, and updating the firmware is said to help as well. Build quality is excellent and overall I am delighted with the camera and the micro 4/3 system.
