The AT831R is a miniature condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. It has been designed for hands-free applications in sound reinforcement systems and for use by professional musicians, especially for pickup of acoustic guitar. The AT831R provides improved gain before feedback that normally cannot be achieved with miniature omnidirectional microphones. Close up voice and instrument pickup are crisp and clean, yet full sounding, while suppression of background noise is significantly improved over that of stand mounted full size cardioid microphones.

Great alternative to a wireless mic. Clean sound and very durable. Windscreen is snug and doesn't fall off.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT831R - Miniature Clip-On Mic:
We use these microphones when videotaping depositions. The quality of the sound is more important than the visual image and sometimes deponents are so soft spoken that only a top quality microphone can pick up there voice. This is the best mic we have found.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT831R - Miniature Clip-On Mic:
We have 4 of these at work in a small studio where we record talk-show type interviews. There is no way for us to turn off the air handlers in the ceiling, so omni mics have a huge noise noise floor. These mics greatly reduce that.
Be careful, though because changing the axis slightly affects the sound greatly.
The only con is that I feel this mic is more susceptible to t and p popping than other mics like my SONY ECM 55.
Also, I detect a little noise when using phantom power.
I wish that it was a little smaller. I'm using the clip with the plastic holder which is better for changing mic axis, but looks a little bulky.
