The compact and lightweight (19.68 oz, 558 g) Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Interchangeable Lens System Digital Camera (Blue) with a Micro Four Thirds Lumix G Vario 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Asph./Mega O.I.S. lens makes taking photos fun and simple. The G2 features full-time Live View which works with both the LCD and the Live View Finder. This means that you see before you shoot how adjusting the exposure compensation, white balance, aperture and even the shutter speed will affect the image.
The 12.1MP Live MOS sensor means higher image quality, lower power consumption. It offers the best of both worlds--the superior image quality of a CCD sensor, and the lower power consumption of a CMOS sensor. And it has a high S/N ratio, which results in clear images even when taken at high ISO sensitivity. The moveable 3.0" (7.6cm) LCD Touch Screen allows image capture, engagement of special shooting modes and playback with a simple touch. For example, via the LCD you can engage the iA (Intelligent Auto) feature which automatically selects one of six specialized modes to optimize exposure and focus for the particular subject you are shooting. If you are covering a sporting event or you're capturing precious images of your fast-moving toddler for example, iA will engage AF Tracking which follows the subject's trail and continuously keep it in focus until the shutter release is pressed.
When your subjects are groups of people, such as friends and family, iA can enlist the Face Recognition mode in which the G2 will recognize up to 3 faces and optimize focus and exposure. The convenience of face recognition even goes one step further as the G2 allows you to pre-register subjects in the camera with full-face portraits so when you compose your photo the names of the registered people show up on the LCD.
Whether using the touch screen or the dedicated video record button, the G2 shoots HD movies in Motion JPEG or AVCHD Lite formats, allowing up to 180 minutes of continuous recording time while retaining excellent image quality and sound. You can engage the camera's Movie mode for a variety of professional-like movie effects such as blurring images that transition into focus.
With advanced technology and convenient touch screen operation, the Lumix G2 appeals to advanced photographers as well as novices who want excellent image quality, user-friendly features and interchangeable lenses without the complexity and weight of a digital SLR.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Interchangeable Lens System Digital Camera (Blue):
I purchased as a camera that is light and easily carried with me all the time, the versatility is wonderful with the interchangeable lens. Easy to operate, controls easily accessible, comfortable grip on camera body, yet light and small enough to go everywhere. I wanted a camera that takes great quality photos, which this does - that I could take with me everywhere without having to tote around my larger heavier camera and accessories. When I am not planning a specific shoot but would have available for those unexpected opportunities.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Interchangeable Lens System Digital Camera (Blue):
The G2 is proving to be a fabulous camera! I was initially interested in some of the other micro four thirds cameras, such as the Olympus PEN, but the G2 tops them all. The EVF is sharp and crystal-clear, and the touch-screen panel provides more control than any other contemporary DSLR or DLR on the market. The camera has the added bonus of being compact and lightweight, which was a major concern for me with a travel and hobby camera. Try lugging around a Nikon or Canon full-frame DSLR for a day, esp. with a longer zoom lense, and you'll be astounded at how much lighter the G2 is, even when fitted with a longer zoom.[...]

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Interchangeable Lens System Digital Camera (Blue):
I use this camera mostly for nature photography. I appreciate the smaller size and weight when taking it to and using it in the field. The LVF/LCD screens are bright and crisp, while the touch screen keeps me informed of the parameters I have chosen for the shot and allows me to modify any of those quickly and easily. The multitude of technical capabilities of this camera aid me in expressing how my subjects affect me with sensational output. It is quite remarkable that so much photographic information can be packed into such a small package and make it available at my fingertips in just a blink of my eyes. This magic electronic tool enables me to take photos of extraordinary clarity and stunning visual impact. In fact the myriad technical features of the camera are a little overwhelming, and I can only hope I will be able to utilize them to something close to the extent of the design capabilities.

Using this mostly for taking shots of kitchens that I have remodeled. The lens that comes with it makes for decent wide angle shots (without spending big bucks on a wide angle lens).
I mostly looked at Consumer Reports to pick this camera, which had it at the top of their list.
It's living up to that. I got a tripod and the remote control shutter, making it even easier to take nice shots, though the camera does a great job with hand shake while taking pics.

Just the right blend of picture and video quality at a reasonable price. I will probably upgrade to the GH2 when it gets affordable. I actually wish the camera was a little larger. I wish the flash could pop up automatically in IA auto mode.

I mostly use my cameras to take pictures of my family. Occasionally I'll get artistic and try my hand at better photography. This camera allows me to do both very easily.
I think the feature I like the most is the burst photo taking. When photographing moving kids, one of the ten photos I take is bound to come out good. So the more the better.
The camera is also very light but it feels well in the hand, not cheap.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Interchangeable Lens System Digital Camera (Blue):
I really love this camera so far! I have only had it for a week and a half and I'll have to admit it was a bit daunting for me at first but it was no time before I was figuring things out. (I have only used point & shoot for the last 15+ years and 35mm SLR before that.) The camera menu is user friendly but I can't say the same for the manual. However, this camera does so much that I'm sure it would be difficult to make the manual easy to read/understand. There is a book specifically on this camera coming out later this month and I have pre-ordered that.
I have actually used the video function (AVCHD Lite) more than taking still pictures and the 'motion pictures', as the manual says, are great. I have recorded my husband's band playing a couple of times and it works really well. One of the guys in the band commented on the excellent quality of the video and he knows a lot about audio/video as that is what he teaches in a local high school.
I am having a lot of fun with the G2 and am looking forward to warmer weather so I will want to get outside with it. I ordered the blue body and was a little apprehensive about the color but will have to say I really like it. In the photos online, it looks a bit gaudy but it really is a nice color and not as 'loud' as I was afraid it would be.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Interchangeable Lens System Digital Camera (Blue):
The G2 has done everything I have asked of it with ease so far - just normal travel photos, but dials are in obvious places and easily changed, and the photos are a beautiful quality. I find not having a cord to connect the lens cap a nuisance, but this is not an operating feature, so I don't count it as a drawback. My inital brief experiment with the portrait settings did not produce anything truly remarkable, but I haven't really played with things fully yet. I will give the sports setting a good workout at the tennis next week.

Although a lot of features still to learn about this camera, I love it! I bought this camera primarily as backup to my Nikon D300. I love the articulating touch screen LCD, high-resolution EVF, and HD video recording. It delivers solid image quality! My only complain is noise at high ISO. Otherwise, very highly recommended backup camera!

I love the fact that I can touch the LCD screen and whatever is displayed where I'm touching, the camera automatically focuses on that, and takes the picture.
This masterpiece of technology allows even the most amateur photographer to start taking pictures like a pro. I'm slowly learning along with the manual, and I have to say, in every page I learn something new and exciting.
I'm absolutely happy with it.

I had purchased a Pen E-P1 but just can't deal with the lack of a flash and optical viewfinder so it's getting sold and I already have the G-2.Sometimes these companies try to make cameras too small that aren't meant to be small especially when they have to give up important features. The G-2 uses all the lenses I already have.It has a built in flash and great viewfinder and does very long videos without having to stop ever 7 minutes or so like some cameras. It's a nice size for the type of camera and still has great features.

I am currently use my G2 for hobby purposes. I take pictures of my friends band, my two boys, and anything else that inspires me. I really enjoy the weight of the camera and the ease of use. The scene modes are not perfect but when you hand the camera off to someone that has never used the camera it becomes as simple as a point and shoot. Great Camera and with the other lenses available, I am hooked!
