This drive is very well made and a nice companion for any notebook computer. The flexibility of Firewire 800 & USB 2 is a plus. It comes with every cable needed for all three connection speeds - Firewire 800, 400 and USB. I partitioned the drive for use as a bootable backup drive and scratch disc for video editing. It is bus-powered so no additional power supply is needed. So far I cannot find any flaws in the design or functionality. I would highly recommend this for anyone seeking an affordable backup or storage solution.

I use this as a portable hard drive to store media on so I can edit on-the-go on my MacBook Pro.
It's small, sleak, and FireWire 800.
No carrying case for protection. Not sure if it allows you to hook up to a USB concurrently with large FireWire 800 usage/transfers for more power and better performance.....it might. That's always nice when you have that option.

I love this drive. It's very durable and has a very similar look and finish as my Macbook Pro. I do a lot of video work on the go and it has worked perfectly for me. I would defiantly buy another G-Drive.

Great for my macbook pro comes formatted correctly without 3rd party junk. i use this for video & music with gigs at a time & it runs flawless. I copied 490 gigs at once with no problems. The 800 firewire wire it comes with is great with metal ends instead of the usual plastic. it does not need a power cable, I don't have anything bad to say about this. [...]

Comments about G-Technology G-Drive mobile (500GB):
Top quality product. I was looking for an external hard-drive for my 13' MacBook Pro to store my raw-files which where starting to take up too much space on my internal HD. I also wanted to get an external HD which was powered by the fire-wire or the USB so that I didn't need to plug the power in a wall outlet. The G-Drive fits my need perfectly and I like the design also.

I use the G-Tech as a travel Hard-drive while I have 2 others in my office as backups. Having the FireWire800 was essential for my business and it is nice to have the eSATA and USB 2.0 cable/ports as well. Very well built and would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a hard drive with more than one connection. Money well spent!

We used this drive for storing footage for a video shoot we did with a Canon 7D. It worked perfectly straight out of the box. And it looks great. Lightweight, bus powered... great value.

I recently started to teach a documentary class. I wanted my students to learn the mechanics of editing as soon and as fast as possible. I gave them a short edited piece of mine, master and raw footage. I loaded everything onto the mobile drive and uploaded on the University's hard drive.
Next, it will travel with me and hold all of my still photography. The mobility is wonderful.
