The viewfinder is useful and needed in bright light. It also make manual focus easy when using manual focus lenses attached with adapters.BIG PROBLEM: IT FALLS OFF EASILY- loose fit pin that is small and has soft spring that clips into hot shoe is a joke. My viewfinder fell off and was lost on a photo shoot the day after it arrived. The device must be taped to camera. Also, the VF-2 is plastic and should be better built as the EP-2 is made of metal.I contacted Olympus on this problem twice- on their web site- no response. I am sure they know about the problem. Perhaps they could be liable if they admit something.The lack of a secure lock may be a cost saving ( and profitable) feature.

I bought this to add some stability when I shoot by being able to press the camera to my face like I do with my DSLR. Mission accomplished! Since my Oly has only slow lenses, I gain not only the added stability and better view of the entire scene, I can also shoot while looking down at a 90 degree angle which gives me the low angles and less intrusive shoting style I'm looking for. The only concern I have is that I wish it had a way to lock onto the body since it can be detached by accident, thou this has yet to happen. This is a must have item if you are doing this for a living or using this camera on a daily basis.

Absolutely a must have. This VF is just a magic and would turn your Olympus Pen from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR with a wonderful tool for focusing and viewing pictures.
The picture in the VF is extremely sharp and can help you focus fast manual focus lenses very accurately.

In addition, playing back pictures in the VF is just magic. The pictures are sharp, have great colors and a strong 3D illusion.
Reminds me of viewing slides in small eyepiece slide viewers.

This is a very usefull viewfinder. I like to use it when the sun is very bright and the lcd comes to its limits.

Reviews of this viewfinder are very positive, and people seem to like it a lot, so I was expecting great things for use on my E-PL2. The VF-2 didn't disappoint -- much, much better for use in bright, outdoor conditions than the camera screen. I've had several Canon DLSRs, as well as a Panasonic G1, and find that this little viewfinder is the equal to the best I've used. For casual shooting, and where the lighting isn't too harsh, it's not mandatory, and leaving it off gives you a more compact package. However, the VF-2 is always attached whenever I shoot outdoors, in bright lights, or with a long lens.

This is great for outside. I haven't found anything that I don't like about it.It is easy to use and switches back to the screen instantily.

Cool little gadget for the Olympus Pen. Practical when taking pictures outside or under bright lights. A little expensive for such a minor accessory. Also the color of plastic casing does not match perfectly with the Pen's. Recommend you purchase the black view finder and not the silver one.

The VF-2 is essential IMO for using the Olympus EP-2 or Epl-1. It's not cheap but the cameras have dropped so much in price that this is a no-brainer. It fits very snugly on my EP-2 and I like how it gives me a bit of stealth when shooting candids. As always B&H was the best price [...]

This is a great addition if you like using a view finder, which I do, since it gives me more control over the camera.

The VF-2 is clearer than the LCD screen. It would be better if it's not round.

As EVF's go, this is probably at the top. I also have the one for the Lumix GF1 and there's no comparison in terms of performance. The form factor could be better ( it's a little too large and round)and it's very expensive. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

There are times when only a viewfinder will work - shots that require exact composition and focus and when shooting in bright sunlight. This viewfinder is so much better that I had anticipated. Will not up to the standards of many DSLR type finders it is more that enough for most situations.

I purchased my camera in June 2010 and I love this camera. However outside in bright sunlight it's hard to see the led screen. I purchased this product from B&H and got it within the week. It really is awesome to use. It's fully electronic and helps so much.
