I use this adapter in conjunction with my NEX 7 and my Sony 35mm 1.8 plus my Minolta 200mm 2.8 APO G. This adapter is much cheaper than the translucent mirror adapter and I don't mind manual focusing because of the great focus peaking of the NEX. There are a few quirks though. There is no depth of field button and you have to be careful when attaching the tripod mount otherwise you will strip the screw threads on the adapter. Also, while the aperture is stopped down and l release the shutter, there is a slight millisecond delay between the stopping down of the aperture and release of the shutter.
If you are willing to live with its quirks, this is a decent buy.

I purchased this adapter so I could use a Sony 70-200 f2.6 with my NEX (quite a site indeed). Initially auto-focus would not work but after a little searching I was able to find a firmware update on Sony's site Installing the update is super easy and took all of 30 seconds to do.
I used the adapter all weekend at the Cherry Blossom festival in Seattle with great results! Firstly I found that Incould zoom the 70-200 faster and more accurately then the NEX could with the adapter. I had to use a monopod to be able to use it.
My second lens was an old Minolta 28-70 f1.6 that would not autofocus. It did however work great manually.
If you are planning in investing in Alpha lenses and have a NEX this is a mandatory purchase. It is however in need of some polishing. If you want simple point and shoot convenience you might be better of renting the NEX 200mm lens instead.

Comments about Sony Alpha LA-EA1 Camera Mount Adapter:
I am a beginner video/photo enthusiast who uses this adapter on a VG-20. The LA-EA1 is a good way to practice your manual skills on a semi-pro camcorder. I find that it is easy to use and way cheaper than the EA2. I bought the adapter primarily because I find the choice of lenses with E mount pretty restrictive. The adapter allows you to choose lenses through many different brands.

Purchased Tamron 28-75 f2.8 and Tamron 70-200 specifically to use with NEX-20. This addaptor does not work with either lens. Chatted with Sony, they told me about the firmware 2 update, but it turns out my adaptor already had the version 2 firmware. Also tried with Sigma 10-20 f3.5 without success.

Comments about Sony Alpha LA-EA1 Camera Mount Adapter:
I use this on my Sony NEX VG20. It works great. The only thing that was a little strange was when you change the Iris it makes clicking sound when switching to new iris setting. Also the image gets bright just before the new iris setting engages. I usually set my iris before I start filming so for me its no issue.FYI auto focus don't work on the VG20.

I bought this item to allow my Nex5 some flexiblity in lens. I am a hobby photographer and can only say that this adapter does what it says it will do. It remains affixed to a macro zoom lens I purchased and the fit on both the camera and the lens are perfect. Nice tight and secure click into place. The photos are perfect as far as my amature I can tell. I have had no issues or complaints with this product so far.

This is a great adapter that I use with my Sony SAL1650 16-50mm f/2.8 lens. Unfortunately, it does not support Auto-focus and stabilization. For this reason, I will return it and buy the LA-EA2.
Watch out, the LA-EA2 as extra features that only works with Alpha lenses!
The LA-EA1 is a great value for the money. I am using it on my Sony FS100 and everything but Auto-focus and stabilization works (shutter info, aperture and ISO info all can be controlled and displayed on the camera).

Comments about Sony Alpha LA-EA1 Camera Mount Adapter:
Used it for my alpha lens, and it did its job that allows you to use all of them.
However, don't expect that you can use them as you are using the alpha DSLR cameras, for you won't get the auto focus work.
Buy the LA-EA2 if you need the auto focus.

Comments about Sony Alpha LA-EA1 Camera Mount Adapter:
I got this for my Nex-5 to use with the many inexpensive alpha mount lenses. I was disappointed to find out that it will not auto focus with alpha lenses that require the screw drive motor which is on all Sony alpha cameras. If you have alpha lenses and are not sure if it has an internal motor, or if it relies on the camera to spin the focus, look at the mount of the lens as you spin the focus and if you see what looks like a small set screw spinning, it requires the camera mount to power it. This adapter will not power this type of lens. It works fine with my Sam prime lens, but I had to go though the hassle of updating the firmware just to get it to work. Sony has released the LA-EA2 adapter which now works with ALL alpha lenses. But you have to spend $400 on the thing. However I do love the fact that i don't have to spend an arm and a leg on e mount lenses.

The adapter works very well. I tested it with my Sony 35mm f1.8 lens and the autofocus is faster than I imagined, but nothing that compares to the nex lens. The photos were very good. I am very pleased. I just do not give it 5 stars because the autofocus does not work on all Sony lenses.

Comments about Sony Alpha LA-EA1 Camera Mount Adapter:
[...]I use stereo macro and compound microscopes for photographing, using all of the Minolta AF macro lenses I have been using for some time using film. I have been switching over from film to digital which is really costly. I will soon use the above lens adapter that Sony made for their NEX series digicams, The adapter :Alpha LA-EA1 camera mount adapter mounted on a New Sony NEX 5 digicam for full use of my macro lenses and the scopes for high quality magnification images. I'v'e been waiting several years for a small but good camera & adapters that offer what I wanted. The NEX line camera with the adapter is about to do the job for the setup I'm using the result is an all digital-microphotography and stereo macro photography setup. So, I'm very happy and exited about this!I can't think of anything that is not great about my purchase from B&H, nor the product. It will save me a lot of money on macro lenses in the long term!
