Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
I've been using Arrilite 1000 watt open face lights for years with great success. The light is great for use with a softbox or just bounced off a wall for a nice soft fill. The vented housing doesn't get too hot and the large knobs are easy to adjust. It is bright enough to use for photography as well as video. At 1000 watts, I can add colored gel and still have enough brightness to be effective.

Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
There's a reason they call these 'hotlights' so be sure to wear gloves when handling them. That being said; the casing is made of what feels like a plastic material, and it stays surprisingly cool (still hot, though) compared to the rest of the metal-cased Arri lights. Don't let the plastic fool you though, it's very durable.
We have two of these in our permanent equipment collection, and we'll probably buy more in the future. Throw a softbox on the end of it and they're great for lighting blue/green screens.
Very powerful indoors, as well as outdoors at night time. During daylight hours, however, this will do almost nothing outside.
My only complaint is that changing the bulb is not exactly convenient; you have to open the gel holder, and unscrew the safety screen to access it. As opposed to some of Arri's other lights, which have an access panel on the top that lets you change the bulb without even removing accessories attached to the face of the light.

Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
First off, I am a videographer for a law firm and I was using this light with a soft box for every shoot. I love the light with the Chimera. But, upon receiving right off the bat a nut on one of this side hinges fell down into the body and I spent a day trying to fix it never full succeeding. After over a year of using the light this way,[...] So, basically it's a little flimsy so be careful, but your results will be excellent on camera.

Arri open face lights are fantastic; the 1k is the one I use the most, with a Chimera softbox..

Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
UHG! plastic... really Arri... on a 1K!!! We had the same problem with the little guy melting because of cinefoil. It looked sweet as heck when it was all melted, AND it still worked! Bad design choice though! The only nice thing about it being plastic, is that it doesn't weigh much... so you can hang it some some odd spots where you might not trust the structural integrity to other heavy lights.
Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
I've used these lights for many years now in video production work and they are great. Bulbs last a long time, they are lightweight and easy to use...with a nice even light. Excellent for use in a softbox. Fairly priced, I think. Only maintenance I've had to do: the spot-to-flood adjusting mechanism (internal part...not the knob on the outside) sometimes requires high-temp resistant grease to keep it from "sticking". No biggy.

Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
I had to replace an Arri from my work's kit after attempting to black wrap the darn thing and having it practically melt into a puddle of goo. The new light works and they'll never know the difference!

Comments about Arrilite 1000 Watt Focus Flood Light (120-240VAC):
This light is superbly made. We have used one regularly for nearly five years without changing a bulb, have shipped them across the country, used them in underground mines and in operating rooms, all with the quality and dependability that I have come to expect from Arri. Will never purchase any other brand of light.
