If you are looking for a unit to play DivX and PAL/NTSC DVDs on your HDTV, this is perhaps your best choice. Philips DVD players are known for good compatibility with wide range of disks. In fact, this is my 4th Philips DVD player supporting DivX. They are so inexpensive that it was not a big deal to buy a new one when the previous got obsolete. The first player purchased about 8 years ago was not designed to support DivX-6 released a few years after, the 2nd and the 3rd I still own (one is also a recorder). This new DVP3560 I had to buy for my new plasma HDTV since it has HDMI up-conversion. In addition I like that it can play files from USB sticks, although unfortunately NTFS seems to be unsupported. Another big advantage is the ability to play PAL DVDs from Europe with internal PAL to NTSC converter, especially since zone protection can be turned off with a few clicks. While a number of Blu-Ray players can play DivX, I could not find any reasonably priced one with the PAL support. Looks like within a year a so after all manufacturers switch from DVD to Blu-Ray players, the PAL option may become hard to find.
The only cons to mention is that the player is quite slow: all commands are executed with considerable delay. This is also characteristic for all other Philips players I have had.

Pros: Player looks good, remote easy to use. On-screen menu section is very good. Plays DVDs and .avi files from either DVD or USB port. I used an 8G thumb drive to test and movies played well.Cons: Player does not support .mkv or .mp4 downloaded movies, either from DVD drive or USB port. USB port will not recognise a 2T external hard drive.I was hoping this would play more formats than it actually does. I did not check for the upconversion feature it has so I can't comment on that. Overall it's still a good buy for [$] if you need a DVD player.

With a few codes entered and it now plays DVDs from all regions. B&H was very helpful in getting me the right player. 4 stars is because all players these days are so cheaply made but this one is better than the rest.

Used for US and European DVD. Simple to use; not all gimmicks and picture quality may not match more expensive players, but definitely worth the money.

On the second day the device was broken not able to read any CD or DVD. I watched two DVDs and that was it. The authorized dealer in Turkey will hopefully fix it without charging me. We will see. I have been told they have to replace something.

Comments about Philips DVP3560/F7 DVD Player:
I use it for reading compressed file burned to DVD as well as stored on USB key. It is ideal to do this in addition to playing standard DVDs.
The standby mode is activated at the factory. If you stay on pause or stop for more than 15 minutes, the unit closes and you lose the reference memory. You will need to search manually for further reading. You can disable this mode.
This device consumes less than 10 W in operation and 0.45 W in standby.
I like it and recommend it.

I needed region free and I got it with this dvd player. I don't need anymore than that or what would be standard on dvd players. We'll see how long it lasts. That's the best indicator.

I was looking for a basic, not-too-complicated machine, something that would play a wide variety of DVDs, regardless of origin. Fits the bill perfectly, no complaints.

Product is great for playing those movies which you have downloaded and will not play on other DVD players. Remote is a bit two-bit but does what is expected.

The player can easily be reprogrammed to a multiregion one and this is the basic reason I got it. It also plays all kinds of files. Mechanical unreliability is the only downturn, as for me.

Comments about Philips DVP3560/F7 DVD Player:
Bought this unit primarily because it appeared to be easily modified ("hacked") to play region 0 DVDs (all regions), and there are some DVDs available in Europe which are not available in the USA. Has anyone tried to get an all-region DVD player here in the States?! The hack worked flawlessly on the first try (follow the directions -- it takes about 1-2 minutes), and I can play regions 1 and 2 -- and probably others (I haven't checked). Remote seems to have a small angle of acceptance, which can be a minor nuisance. A fine unit at a VERY reasonable price! I recommend it, [...]
