The Photoshop CS5 Image Editing Software from Adobe is the industry-standard application for editing photos. The software, compatible with Windows operating systems, gives you all the tools necessary to edit digital images.
Photoshop uses a powerful layer-based approach for image editing. Using layers allows you to make adjustments to images without modifying aspects of an original. You can modify layer opacity and order, aiding in compositing tasks. Photoshop keeps track of each change you make to an image, allowing you to undo actions with ease.
Photographers will appreciate Photoshop's robust photographic toolset and tight integration with Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom application. You'll be able to adjust image curves, remove noise from digital photographs, simulate film grain, add vignettes, and sharpen images. The software can open all types of images captured by digital cameras, including RAW images.
You'll also be able to correct lens distortions and image perspective. This is a powerful tool for architectural photographers who need to remove keystone effects from images and anyone shooting with ultra-wide angle rectilinear of fisheye lenses who would like to remove distortions.
Photoshop also supports the creation of High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. It can create an HDR image from multiple images of different exposures. It can remove ghosting created by slight camera movement between exposures, and you'll be able to tone images via intuitive slider controls.
Creatives will appreciate the tight integration with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. Photoshop features a number of artistic image filters that can dramatically transform images. You'll be able to simulate different canvas types and brush strokes to create digital paintings. You can warp or stretch graphics, or move elements in images using the Puppet Warp tool.
Designers will appreciate the ability to isolate parts of images. You can cut out a model from a background with ease for use in a brochure. Photoshop is intelligent enough to correctly select complex parts of an image, including hair. You can go the opposite way as well -- you can remove a subject or object from an image and use the Content-Aware Fill to fill in the background with ease.
It is not without reason that Photoshop has become a verb in popular culture today. It's common to hear about someone who has "Photoshopped" a picture. Photoshop is the premiere application for image editing; it is a tool that every professional photographer and designer should have available.

Adobe Photoshop CS5 Upgrade. The bad thing about the product is the licensing that only lets you put it into one computer. It is very hard to find out how many computers that they will let you install this very expensive product in. (You only find out after you install it into your computer.) Too much greed in this company. Yes the photoshop program is good, but you do need training to use the product. It is not worth the amount they charge for the licensing. Adobe needs to let the customer install up to 5 computers, the point commercial licensing begins.

Contrary to one review here, Adobe allows installation on 2 computers not one. This is seems very reasonable to me since if you wanted installed on 5 computers you are likely using more than one at a time - requiring more licenses.
Yes, it takes some learning to use but that's because it's a professional tool. No software that does this much can be used without a learning curve. If you want simple and less expensive, use Adobe Elements. It's great too and under $100!

If you are a Photoshop user, upgrading is not an option. If you want the current processing and Camera RAW conversions for the newer cameras, you just have to do it. It also has some cool new features, as is always the case. If you are an Elements user, trash that program and get the real deal!

Photo editing tools that is so detailed I probably only use a fraction of CS5 capabilitys Started with CS2 and have used Adobe for many years. Very stable VERY powerful tool that is all any Pro photographer could need, and even great for novice but sharp learning curve.

Been using Photoshop since Photoshop 7, upgrade price is pretty good, full version is out of the park. I also have Lightroom 3 but I like photoshop better for some reason. Has a few new features not in CS4, worth the upgrade price to me.

The CS5 is much easier to use then it's previous version of cs2. My RAW files convert automatically, and the edits are done in an easier format. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to print for family and for contests!

I had Photoshop CS2 and needed to upgrade to CS5 before CS6 came out. The price was pretty much the same between [...] What swayed me is that B&H sends out those paper catalogs to me once or twice a year and it's still nice to turn pages and dream!

Comments about Adobe Photoshop CS5 Software for Windows (Upgrade from CS2/CS3/CS4; CS3/CS4 Extended):
I started with CS2 and recently migrated to CS5. Photoshop has a decently large learning curve, but once you know one version, moving to a newer version isn't that difficult. The upgrade is definitely worthwhile.
The new noise reduction included in ACR 6 (included with CS5) is quite good. The only issue I have is they didn't provide the same interface inside photoshop itself. So if I use another program to convert from a raw file, I can't use the new noise reduction (it appears to be the same thing I had in CS2 which wasn't very good). Once I upgrade to a new camera body that isn't supported in ACR 6, I'll be forced to upgrade Photoshop again if I want to keep that feature.
Otherwise, CS5 has everything I need to edit photos down to the pixel level. Using layers is much easier compared to CS2.

Sometimes I think the Photoshop people are better at marketing than they are at Photoshop.I have usually skiped a version however this time I have gone from 4 to 5. Partialy because do not think that their is not going to be a low cost version 6. The advent of Lightroom has shown that soon you will have ro buy several of their program just to get a working Photoshop.
