The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX75 Digital Camera (Black) is a compact but advanced point-and-shoot camera. It has a powerful 14.1 megapixel CCD sensor along with the Venus Engine HD II image processor. This ensures high image quality, even when shooting at high ISO settings up to 6400.
The camera boasts a 24mm 24x f/2.2 Leica optical zoom lens with fast autofocus. From lush landscapes to action sport photography, The camera can capture action by shooting an amazing 1.8 frames per second at a full 14.1 resolution. You can also capture 1280 x 720 HD movies at reduced files sizes with the AVCHD Lite file format - saving space on your memory card for longer shooting sessions. Featuring Dolby Digital Stereo, the camera also captures dynamic, stereo sound with your HD content. Intelligent Auto Mode uses face detection autofocus, AF tracking for moving subjects, optical image stabilization, scene mode selection, and auto ISO to make great pictures and movies as simple as point-and-shoot.
In the field use the 3" touch LCD screen to compose and review your images. Many of the camera's controls and features can be accessed directly from the touch screen. - 24-120mm f/2.2 Leica DC Vario-Summicron Lens
- The DMC-FX75 has a Leica DC Vario-Summicron Lens high-quality lens with 24mm ultra wide-angle and 5x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This high-quality lens boasts an astonishing brightness of f/2.2. It lets the DMC-FX75 shoot at higher shutter speed and capture stunningly clear, sharp, blur-free images in lower lighting situation. Together with the anti-blurring function in the iA Mode, the DMC-FX75 never allows any subject to be blurred. This advanced lens also makes it easy to produce beautiful photos with pleasing soft background focusing thanks to the shallow depth of field provided by the extra light.
- The lens unit consists of 7 elements in 6 groups with 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces. In addition to the 0.3mm super thin aspherical lens and 0.3mm thin spherical lens, another aspherical lens is designed to be as thin as 0.4mm, which results in the realization of f/2.2 brightness and 24mm ultra wide-angle of view at the same time. This advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance with its minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations while suppressing ghosting and flaring.
- The 24mm ultra wide-angle lens - rare on a compact camera - gives you a wider range of composition possibilities with approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm camera. The lens minimizes distortion at the wide end.
- The DMC-FX75 features a 5x optical zoom range (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can't get close to. The 5x optical zoom can be increased to a 6.5x equivalent. This is done with the Intelligent Zoom function, taking advantage of the Intelligent Resolution technology. This will maintain the picture quality when using the digital zoom. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function extends zoom power to 10.5x by using the center part of the large MOS sensor.
- Touch Zoom
- Full touch-screen operation on the DMC-FX75 makes zooming even easier. To pull your subject in quickly by zooming to maximum magnification, touch the T button. To make a more precise angle of view adjustment, use the touch lever. These two different functions give you quick and easy control from a single screen.
- 14.1-megapixel CCD Sensor
- Images remain clear and sharp even when they are enlarged to A2 size 23.39 x 16.54" (594 x 420 mm). An A2 photo is large enough to show a newborn baby or the head and chest of an adult in actual size. Photos in ordinary sizes come out beautifully at 3 megapixels. The high resolution also allows you to crop the images and still have high quality prints.
- Venus Engine FHD
- The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD II is incorporated in the DMC-FX75 to enable the recording of beautiful photo and high-definition movie with higher quality signal processing including the Intelligent Resolution technology. The Venus Engine HD II also supports the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite with its higher processing speed using twin CPUs. An advanced noise reduction system in the Venus Engine HD II applies noise reduction (NR) to luminance noise and chromatic noise separately. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution for beautiful night shots or dimly lit indoor shots.
- Fast Start-up and Short Release Time Lag
- The parallel processing of software results in ultra high-speed start-up. The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.008 second, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities.
- Sonic Speed AF
- The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FX75 includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.

- The graininess that results from picture noise and the flatness that sometimes comes with noise reduction measures are major concerns when shooting at high sensitivity levels. The Intelligent Resolution minimizes noise to produce sharp, clear images.

- The energy-saving Venus Engine HD FHD image processing engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery - which has been slimmed down to fit into thinner camera bodies - work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-FX750. - iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode
- In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose your shot and capture the moment. The Intelligent Burst Mode in the DMC-FX750 even matches the frame rate for burst shooting to the speed of your subject's movement. You just press, aim and shoot. Once you've selected the iA Mode, the detection and correction functions go to work to give you beautiful photos and movies with maximum ease.
- Intelligent Resolution
- The Intelligent Resolution technology is always activated in the iA Mode, which results in the clearer and higher image quality in every photo and movie with extended zoom range equivalent to 6.5x optical zoom by the Intelligent Zoom
- Motion Deblur Mode
- With the DMC-FX75, the Motion Deblur Mode prevents blurring. This mode integrates the Intelligent ISO Control, which automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed according to the subject's movement, and the advanced contrast control system of Intelligent Exposure, which also optimizes the exposure to prevent over/under-exposed parts in the image. The camera judges the appropriate shutter speed to suppress motion blur according to the subject's movement. The shutter speed rises as high as possible activating the high sensitivity recording by pixel mixed readout method. The camera determines the optimal settings, so anyone can easily capture crisp, clear photos － without blurring. Combined with the outstanding brightness of the lens and the POWER O.I.S., the DMC-FX75 thoroughly prevents any kind of blur.
- Intelligent ISO Control - Motion Detection
- The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting.
- Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition
- The DMC-FX75 features the Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. Register the person from the menu by taking his/her full-face portrait with his/her name. Once complete, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. Up to 3 persons' names can be displayed at once. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using the Category Playback. The Face Recognition makes sorting archiving incredibly easy. The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal). The camera takes care of the red-eye effect that often happens when shooting with a flash, to ensure attractive facial expression.
- Intelligent Scene Selector - Scene Detection
- When the camera's in the iA Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically sets the Scene Mode to one of Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night portrait, Night scenery or Sunset. The camera judges it from the various detection results such as focusing and brightness level of the circumstance. You are free from annoying settings every time scene changes when taking images with these most frequently used Scene Modes to get beautiful results even before you know it.
- Scene Mode for both Photos and Movies
- The DMC-FX75, a hybrid still/motion image model, includes numerous Scene Modes for taking photos and movies. Switching from still-image to movie shooting is seamless because the optimal Movie Scene Mode is automatically selected. The versatile Scene Mode range is a unique feature that handles just about any situation and subject type. By simply selecting a Scene Mode, the camera makes the optimal settings for you automatically, so anybody can take superb photos and movies with ease.
- Intelligent Exposure - Light Detection
- The Intelligent Exposure instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark due to dim lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. Adjusting the brightness of dark areas, this produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eye. The DMC-FX75 lets you adjust the effect in three levels - high, normal, and low.
- Auto Backlight Compensation
- When there is strong backlighting, the background appears nice and bright, but the subject is dark. This function detects backlight condition and compensates it automatically.
- Panorama Assist Mode
- This is a handy function for aligning panorama photos using the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition. The afterimage of each previous shot is displayed, so you can use it to precisely line up the second and third shots.
- Macro Zoom
- The DMC-FX75 lets you get as close as 3cm to your subject. In addition, when using the Macro Zoom function, you can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible by using 3x digital zoom, and capture dramatic close-ups.
- HD Movie in AVCHD Format
- In addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-FX75 can record high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite. It features almost double the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format.
- Motion Picture Button
- Motion image recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the top of the camera - an extremely quick, convenient way to start motion image recording.
- 5x Optical Zoom When Shooting Movies
- The DMC-FX75 lets you use the 5x zoom for motion images. It takes you right up close to your subjects.

- Just connect the DMC-FX75 to an HDTV and you're ready to view your photos and movies in beautiful high-definition. Motion images recorded in AVCHD Lite on SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory cards are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV. Simply insert the card into the VIERA Image Viewer (SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot) on a VIERA TV or DIGA recorder/ player to playback your content. - Select from 4 Aspect Ratios
- In addition to 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9, you can now shoot with a 1:1 aspect ratio. This unique square frame adds to your image expression possibilities. - The latest version of exciting software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition comes bundled with the DMC-FX75. With quick start-up and fast read-in of images, the PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition makes it possible to sort and organize photos not only of those newly taken but also of those stored in your computer. The Face Recognition function that recognizes the faces in the image to automatically sort the photos by the registered faces without picking out each photo one by one when you only want images of a specific person. This camera was really easy to figure out how to use. I was a little nervous about the touch screen at first but I got used to it quickly and like it now. The pictures I have taken all have been crisp and clear. I have taken some video as well and have been happy with the results. I have always had larger cameras in the past so I especially like the compact size of this one.

I have been an amateur photographer now for some 50 years, starting with a Kodak box-camera to Nikon SLRs and upon winning a coolpix in 2000 switched to the digital format. Being a Nikon and canon follower through all these years, the need for an affordable digital camera motivated me to get the Lumix. It is a reasonably small camera with great features, good picture quality. The zoom function is pretty smooth and less jerky than other comparable small cameras. I did not find its image stabilization to be very effective or at least consistently effective, and I miss the optical viewfinder which my canon powershot had. It really becomes a hit and miss when shooting in broad daylight. I will try to rig up a sun-shade around the screen to make it usable.
The flash though small is reasonably powerful and illuminates evenly, even in the extreme wide-angle (24 mm equivalent which adds a nice perspective to photos).
For a price of 159 dollars, it is still a great bargain. I love the slight softening that Leica V-S lenses are designed with. Great for portraits etc.

Excellent camera for those on-the-go moments when you need a solid pocket sized camera to get a good quality photo but don't want to be lugging your full framed SLR. The newer feature of being able to zoom in on subject while shooting HD video is also a fantastic improvement over the previous FX model I owned. In the first few weeks of using it I think I like the touch screen-it seems to speed up the usual tasks between shooting such as previewing shots and changing settings. No serious draw backs with this model. The usual limitations of this type of camera are there, but if you're looking for a good back to your SLR this is a very competitive choice. Good bang for your buck.

This camera performs beautifully in Intelligent Auto mode. I'm used to using an SLR and am comfortable with all the advanced settings. However, when I tried to use the advanced settings on the Lumix, I ended up ruining some good pictures. Trust the Intelligent Auto setting, even if you think you know what you are doing, and you will be very happy with the camera. Overall, very nice features, almost no shutter lag and easy to use (if you let the camera do all the thinking for you.)
