The Zi10 PlayTouch Video Camera (Black) is a sleek HD pocket camcorder from the grand-daddy of photographic imaging, Kodak. Like all camcorders in the genre, the PlayTouch features a compact form-factor. Being this small, pocket cams generally don't have room for larger, touch screen LCDs. Not so with the PlayTouch. Kodak gave this camera a 3" touch screen LCD that allows for viewing in portrait or landscape.
In addition to its 1920 x 1080 HD video and 5.3MP digital still capture, the features of the PlayTouch set it apart from the pack. Digital image stabilization, HDMI and A/V outputs, and a microphone and headphone connection are all rarely seen features in the world of pocket camcorders. Other useful functions, such as 4x digital zoom, a built-in USB connection, and a built-in rechargeable battery aid in recording as well.
When it's time to edit and share what you've shot, the PlayTouch allows for playback and review on its generous 3" LCD. You can also easily share your memories when connected to your PC or Mac with the built-in USB connection. The built-in ARCSOFT MEDIA IMPRESSION software helps edit and share with PCs, while Mac users can edit and share using MPEG4 compatible editing programs.

Having used the Kodak Zi8 successfully in a New York City high school last year, I purchased Kodak's Playtouch in November to evaluate it as a potential upgrade for an introduction to film production class I'll be teaching at a liberal arts college next semester. Sadly, while Kodak has improved the user interface with a touchscreen, they completely dropped the ball and forgot about video quality.
Compared to the Zi8, the Playtouch has taken a major step backwards in video quality. I was surprised and disappointed that its video was not sharp and its compression artifacts were quite noticeable when viewed on a computer. The scene we shot was a day interior with lighting - a scenario the Zi8 has performed well in in the past. However, the Playtouch's video was poor.
We've since returned the camera and are considering the Playsport or going back the Zi8. The major reason we considered the Playtouch is that like the Zi8, it allows you to override the small onboard microphone. In its place, we use a 3.5" to XLR adapter, a Rode NTG-1, boom pole and Azden FMX-42a mixer.
On the downside, the Playsport does not support external audio.
On the plus side, the extra batteries we purchased (Kodak KLIC-7004) will work in the two models we're considering.

A small form factor HD 1080p camera that accepts microphone input is what everyone needs to blog effectively or even launch your next great product. Get one and guard it as Kodak is not making any more. While you are at it ... pick up a spare. You wont regret it.

Comments about Kodak Zi10 PlayTouch Video Camera (Black):
The size and feel of an iphone, but much cheaper for just a video camera. You buy these not to make your epic film, but to shoot some quick video.
Really easy to use, and nice that it allows some simple editing in camera.
The external mic input is a great addition and worth it if you plan to interview people, but the internal mic is pretty good.
Don't expect much in low light, but otherwise picture quality is OK. The macro mode is pretty good too.
We got about 20 of these from various sources to do a quick film chalenge for our clients. Sent them out with instructions, and the participants sent them back with 15 minutes of footage. Editing is to come, but haven't had much issue getting it into FCP.

Perfect for a quick shoot and easy to use. Most small consumer camcorders don't have a mic input which makes my job in post difficult. I recommend this to all non-professionals or bloggers!

Able to carry in shirt pocket while on travel with my DSLR and tripod. Sometimes you need video but hate carrying a big camcorder for HD results. Easy to use and share. Great camera for the price.

Super user friendly. The image quality when set at 1080p looks amazing. The sound quality with an external mic (not included) has amazed me. Very glad I made this purchase.

Comments about Kodak Zi10 PlayTouch Video Camera (Black):
I got a PlaySport, which I prefer, but it just quit working right before I left on a huge trip to Mali. [...]My mom picked up a PlayTouch to replace it. Neither of these are quality cameras. I needed a camera that could fit in my pocket. I was traveling with five kids and wanted to document it. It worked. The video quality is good for HD YouTube uploads, and nothing better. The mic 'inhales violently' if you know what I mean, no two ways about it. Often speaking is barely audible. The zoom is worthless. The reason I like the PlaySport better is that less options means less can go wrong. The touch screen is easily bumped changing your settings, and it is not much easier to use than previous models. The camera does what it says it does. I use it more than my DVX-100 because solid state rocks when you live right night to the Sahara desert and HD is nice, even on YouTube.Oh yeah, the still image is almost worthless too.Keep looking.
Comments about Kodak Zi10 PlayTouch Video Camera (Black):
This camera has the all important microphone in jack for use with external mics, many others do not have this. The jack serves as both mic and earphone jack, 1st time I have seen this. Good low light recording, I use this for recording student seminars presentations in class. Also mic gain can be increased, very important for good audio.

I use the product to place a business presentation on YouTube. I really like the playtouch screen as I like touch sensitive devices, as such.
It does not have the best image quality in terms of the final video product; but, it is a respectable image nonetheless.
