The 8TB G-SPEED Q External Hard Drive Array from G-Technology is a high-performance, quad interface, desktop RAID that is compatible with Mac and Windows computer systems. The array features four enterprise-class 3.5" hard drives, each with a storage capacity of 2TB and a disk speed of 7200rpm. The array can connect to your computer via eSATA, FireWire-800, FireWire-400, or USB 2.0, and can be configured as a RAID 0 or RAID 5.
Cooling is provided by a smart fan, which varies speed based on the array's temperature. Each of the four enterprise-class hard drives is hot-swappable for easy maintenance, and the included software for Mac and Windows lets you configure the RAID level. When configured as a RAID 5, the array supports automatic rebuild.

Comments about G-Technology 8TB G-SPEED Q External Hard Drive Array:
This product works great. I have only two complaints: 1) it is not as quiet as I would have wished. It's whisper fan is supposed to be very quiet and I find it louder than I would like....and 2) when I called the G-Drive people they said when I put my Mac to sleep it would also put the G-Drive to sleep as well. This does not happen. Other than that, great product.

Comments about G-Technology 8TB G-SPEED Q External Hard Drive Array:
As a video professional shooting tapeless, I need storage. So I got lots of bare drives, but really got tired of swapping them in and out, trying to find this and that.
So I buy the 8TB G-Speed Q to get numerous working projects into one place. Now I'm up to 45TB of storage, yikes!
I digress.
This box holds a ton of footage and I've got it running into an 8 Core tower via e-sata through a G-Tech 4 port card.
Problem is, when using e-sata, you need to boot this drive up before starting your computer, and cut shut it down while running the computer like you can any FW800 drive. Yeah, it's a pain sometimes when you wanna keep working but you're done with the drive. Design flaw for GTech, yep. But it is what it is, and should be known. Another down side is boot time is slower than most drives, like 10-20 seconds before you can boot up your computer.
Still, what's great about this is to just put it on FW800 and switch between my laptop and more. Keep in mind, it has 2 FW800 connectors, not an FW400 one like it says. But it comes with a FW400-800 adaptor so you're good to go if you're old school like that.
On top of everything, it looks good on my console.

Comments about G-Technology 8TB G-SPEED Q External Hard Drive Array:
We use these constantly to store "dailies" (daily shots from the television show we're shooting). It movies from department to department and ships back and forth to LA on a regular basis. Durable and fast.

Comments about G-Technology 8TB G-SPEED Q External Hard Drive Array:
This is a great RAID drive. The design is very aesthetically nice, but it's also smartly designed to be a great product. The drive is compact, even including it's power supply inside the casing (a nice feature for those that don't like the drag those 'power bricks' around). The drive was very easy to set up and use. Another great G-Technology product.

I use this hard drive everyday for video and audio editing. It performs very well through the firewire 800 port and even better through the esata. the data transfer is fast and keeps the workflow moving at your pace. I will continue to buy g tech products because of this drive.

Comments about G-Technology 8TB G-SPEED Q External Hard Drive Array:
I've had two G-Tech drives before and they have both failed. I vowed never to buy them again, but after trying every other brand out there (Promise Tech, Lacie, Maxtor, Seagate, etc.) they all fail sooner or later. This drive is small, nice looking, well built, fast, and a great price. My only complaint so far is that it's quite a bit louder than I would have hoped for. I also run an 8TB Seagate Blackarmor that is much more quiet.
Also, the software won't load from the CD (Windows 7 Business 64-bit) nor will it run when downloaded from the website. This means I cannot update the firmware or change the raid settings but I happen to be fine with the pre-configured Raid 5 setting.
