The PR-10 from Tascam is an extremely compact digital audio recorder, ideal for recording interviews, lectures, music practice sessions, and much more. The pocket-sized unit can record high-quality WAV or MP3 files at rates up to 24-bit/48kHz. The unit records to readily-available microSD flash memory cards, allowing you to record hours of material and share it easily. A 2GB card is included for convenience.
The recorder features a built-in stereo condenser microphone with an automatic level control and switchable low and high cut filters. The mic has an omnidirectional pickup pattern to clearly capture your surroundings. A 3.5mm stereo mic/line input makes it easy to connect an external microphone or instrument, while the 3.5mm headphone/line output jack allows you to connect headphones, external speakers, a mixer, and more. The high-speed USB 2.0 port allows you to transfer your recordings to a Mac or PC for editing or sharing.
Additional playback effects include noise reduction, slow-speed playback, and voice enhance mode. The PR-10 has a convenient built-in kickstand for tabletop recording. It can be powered by a pair of standard AAA batteries or by USB bus power. The recorder includes a microSD card, AAA batteries, and a USB cable so you can start recording right out of the box.

Comments about Tascam PR-10 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
I'm a cabaret singer and need to record performances and practices. The built-in mics are adequate, but as you'd expect, you to need to use external mic-ing or patch into a sound board for publication quality recording. Its LCD screen is tiny and not easy to read. Battery life is a few hours, so bring extra AAA batteries. Upload via micro-USB works fine.

Comments about Tascam PR-10 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
My daughter is traveling to Europe for school. She will be using a consumer HD video camera with marginal sound capability. She will use this to capture "talent" commentary when on location. We will match sound for editing later. Tested out the device and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of sound. It will work great for this purpose. Considered the Tescam DR-05, but that is larger, and she would not have enjoyed caring it around. We tested the device in wind, and that will be a problem. I was looking for a windscreen, could not find one. I hooked up an external lavalier mike with a windscreen, that worked great. I use a ZOOM H4n when I need to capture sound, I would be happy to use the PR-10 if I needed to travel lighter.

Comments about Tascam PR-10 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
I needed a simple and reliable recorder for practice sessions, but it needed to capture the sounds as well as I was hearing them. I've had good luck with Tascam in the past, but a lot of these small recorders look the same. So, I read the reviews. This little Gem is everything everyone else has said it is, and more.
Hmm, the bad parts? Can't think of any.

Comments about Tascam PR-10 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
For the price, less than $100, the Tascam PR-10 is a very adequate and amazingly compact unit for the occasional, casual user. A PR-10 or the like is preferable to using the recorder on a smartphone. Someone who needs an audio recorder several times a week might prefer a sturdier unit, like the almost as small Olympus LS-7. Note that neither of these units is intended for high volume professional dictation (but can be used for occasional documents when set to the 64K mono MP3 level; anything more isn't really necessary. I use an upper end Olympus with slide switch for multi-page reports.)
Note that the two tiny condenser mikes on this unit are OMNI-directional; the Olympus has a system that is more directional, and variable at that. The PR-10 does have a small retractable strut, to elevate its front end off a table. The Olympus has a 1/4"-20 tripod mount allowing use of a table tripod, Gorilla Pod, or X-Shot extension handle, to keep the users breath and handling sounds out of the recording. Unlike the LS-7, whose build quality is distinctly better, the PR-10 does not come with a strap, case, rechargeable batteries or foam windscreen.

Comments about Tascam PR-10 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
This little unit has a cheap feel to it, but it does record voice pretty well with very little noise. I can't imagine this working well for recording an event or large gathering. Instead, this really works best for recording a single source in close quarters. It does have a mini input for an external mic, but haven't tried that. Navigation is pretty simple. I use this to record very short length voice-overs (less than 30 seconds) of different people to be used in online corporate media - so the size and portability is great. Instead of having to bring people to you or into a studio, I can actually go to people where they are with this little device and very quickly get a good quality recording (good enough for web anyway). Works very well considering the low cost of this unit.

Comments about Tascam PR-10 Portable Digital Audio Recorder:
Super easy, nice interface, built in mic is o.k. but the sensitivity setting (high, low, or custom) is pretty helpful if you must use the built in mic. Stealth mode is nice, I with more devices had a stealth mode. No red light, no back light, no attention. Overall the recorder is nice, and records at a very high quality for its size.

Love this little Tascam recorder. Hooked up to some core-sound stealth mics will make this a great stealth concert recording solution.
