The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G Classic Portrait Lens is for FX-format D-SLR cameras, but when used with cameras with a DX size chip it has a 127.5mm equivalent focal length. This is the perfect focal length for distortion free portraits. Plus - the ultra fast f/1.4 wide-open aperture along with the rounded 9-blade diaphragm will create natural out-of-focus backgrounds that will isolate your main subject for an impressive professional look.
The M/A focus mode switch allows you to quickly change between manual and autofocus. Other features include the silent wave motor, internal focus, and super integrated coating for enhances light transmission.

I am used d90 camera with this lens for portrait pictures. This is good for portrait photos. the pictures is so clear, but I can not stay close a oobject to take picture be cause it did not have zoom.

The only comment I could potentially throw out there about this lens is maybe the weight - however, after shooting with this lens all over New York I can honestly say it's a hundred times over worth carrying the extra weight.
The quality and the sharpness can't be beaten! Spend a little extra, look after it, and you'll have the best lens in your kit for a long long time, if your thing is portraits – this is a lens you can not go without.

It is difficult to take a bad portrait with this lens. The bokeh lives up to its billing: beautifully creamy and blurred. Because it opens so wide I've not found a lighting challenge yet that it could not meet. My only criticism is the auto-focus: it seems to be a little slow, but that could be the photographer - not the lens. I simply compensate by putting it on manual focus.
I would highly recommend this lens to anyone who needs fabulous portrait glass or photographs in a lot of low light conditions.

A surprise bonus I found with this lens is it's lightweight and compact size make it even more of joy to work with than I ever imagined. Well there's absolutely nothing new that I can say about this outstanding product. Beautifully smooth bokeh, perfect for portraiture!
Since the earthquake in Japan effected production for some of Nikon's high end stuff, I decided to try an Import lens. I was happily reassured in this purchase since B&H backs the lens with its own in house warranty that is essentially the same thing as the Nikon 1 year product warranty. I figured I couldn't lose. Besides Nikons makes great high end lenses I shouldn't need to use the warranty.
My wife & I are hobbiest photographers, who dabble in weddings, portraiture, action photography & bird photography. So with these photographic topic interests, we have been fans of the fastest lenses Nikon manufactures.
This particular "Import" lens is absolutely no different than any other USA lens we have in our quiver: 24-70 f2.8G, 70-200 f2.8G, 200-400 f4.
If you're thinking about buying an Import lens, I think you're safe!

I use this lens for just about everything especially what it's known, that is producing beautiful portraits. The bokeh blows away my 70-200, with that it's my new cream of the crop. Focusing is slower than the 70-200 but it's not an issue for me since it's sharpness, clarity and outstanding bokeh outway slower focusing. It took me awhile in deciding between this G version versus the old D version, and I'll say this: I'm extremely glad I didn't settle for less. If you want a prime then this 85 is the one!! Don't settle for less or aftermarket versions. Get this 85 and you'll won't regret.
