Canon's XF100 HD Professional Camcorder is an amazingly compact, fully featured pro video camera that imports nearly all the features and functionality of the 3-chip XF300 into a smaller, single sensor form factor. Taking advantage of the latest HD technology--along with Canon's robust MPEG-2 4:2:2 codec--the XF100 records full HD video to affordable Compact Flash cards, making it as versatile as it is powerful. A newly developed Genuine Canon 10x HD video lens resolves images onto a native 1920 x 1080 CMOS sensor, which are captured in industry-standard MXF file wrappers using your choice of bit rate (up to 50Mbps), resolution, and frame rate. Full image customization and HDMI/Component/Composite outputs are equally on par with the camera's big brother XF300.

But not content with simple "junior partner" status, the XF100 brings some of its own muscle to the table in the form of infrared recording and--when used in combination with another XF100 or XF105--3-D stereoscopic capability. This fusion of exceptional image quality with portability and pinpoint control makes the XF100 the perfect low-profile tool for a range of applications, including ENG, travel documentaries, indie features, and event videography.

MPEG-2 4:2:2 50Mbps Codec (Canon XF Codec)
Canon's adaptation of MPEG-2 for the XF100 Professional Camcorder, named the Canon XF Codec, ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. And by using an MXF file wrapper, video and audio can be wrapped in a single file along with important metadata. The XF100 supports the highest HD quality with Full HD 1920x1080 resolution, up to a 50Mbps bit rate and 4:2:2 color sampling.
4:2:2 Color Sampling
4:2:2 color sampling provides twice the color resolution of HDV and other codecs that use 4:2:0 color sampling. 4:2:2 provides ultra-fine transitions in tone and color and maintains the highest quality image for use in post production processes such as chroma keying, color grading, advanced compositing and effects.
Record to Compact Flash Cards
Unlike other camcorders using proprietary memory systems, the XF100 records to cost effective and readily available Compact Flash (CF) cards. The camcorder features two CF card slots and offers versatile recording functions including relay recording, hot swapping, file copy & backup, and pre-record.

File-based recording facilitates workflow by reducing transfer times when moving video to nonlinear editing (NLE) systems. Additionally, metadata can be input at image acquisition, and imagery may be reviewed immediately after recording to ensure every shot is captured and logged correctly.
Major NLE Software Compatibility
Canon's XF Codec is supported by the industry's leading manufacturers: Adobe, Apple, Avid and Grass Valley. This ensures the widest compatibility with existing infrastructure and non-linear editing (NLE) software.
MXF Wrapper
The XF100 uses Material Exchange Format (MXF) for its file structure--an internationally standardized container format for the exchange of video and audio material. Using the MXF format, video and audio can be wrapped into a single file along with important metadata. With MXF, the XF100 will not only benefit from the highest level of compatibility with NLE systems, but also with high-end network systems used by many networks and production studios.
Genuine Canon 10x HD Lens
Canon's optical expertise is clearly seen in the XF100's Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens. It delivers flexibility in image capture with a zoom range of 30.4 - 304mm (35mm equivalent). Power zoom is available in Constant and Variable settings in 3 modes: Fast (approx. 1.9 - 60 seconds), Normal (approx. 3.0 - 180 seconds) and Slow (approx. 4.0 - 285 seconds).
Canon Native 1920 x 1080 CMOS Image Sensor
Newly designed and manufactured exclusively by Canon, the XF100 incorporates a native 1/3", 1920 x 1080 CMOS image sensor, delivering superb full HD video recording with minimal noise. The high sensitivity and wide dynamic range of this sensor are what demanding users expect from Canon. Slow and fast motion shooting are supported for greater flexibility in creative choice and the compactness contributes greatly to the small, super handy size of the XF100 and its outstanding usability in the field.
Multiple Bit Rates, Resolution, & Frame Rates
Multiple recording modes, resolutions and frame rates make the XF100 Professional Camcorder creatively flexible and able to work in virtually any production environment. From the highest quality 50Mbps Full HD to the HDV compatible 25Mbps, users will find the camcorder capable of taking on any job.
Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor
The XF100 features Canon's powerful DIGIC DV III Image Processor, which provides enhanced shading, lifelike tonal gradations, new custom picture settings and lower power consumption. DIGIC DV III is also the high-speed engine which powers Genuine Canon Face Detection. On-the-go videographers will appreciate the ability to track one subject in a crowd of people.
Built-in 3-D Assist Features
The XF100 has the ability to be paired with another XF100 or XF105 camcorder to provide true stereoscopic 3-D recording. It offers several features to assist with 3-D production including OIS Lens Shift to aid in optically aligning the two camcorders. A focal length guide displays the zoom position of each camera in relation to each other and calibrates the zoom distance.

The XF100's compact size provides an alternative to large 3-D rigs allowing 3-D crews to work more quickly and efficiently, while providing the needed features to capture exceptional 3-D imagery.
Infrared Recording
The XF100 Professional Camcorder features an Infrared Mode allowing users to capture video in conditions with little to no ambient light, a situation which would make other camcorders useless. During infrared capture, the infrared cutoff filter is removed from the optical path. Combined with a specially designed lens coating, infrared light is able to pass through to the image sensor. Additionally, the XF100 features an infrared emitter with a diffuser to shoot pleasing infrared imagery even in complete darkness.
Brilliant Ergonomics
The XF100 is designed as an ultra-compact camcorder without compromising on features and usability. Its small size makes this camcorder ideal in situations where every inch and ounce count, such as flying to location or going on expedition. It offers amazing image quality yet can easily be placed in the back of a car or carried in a backpack making the XF100 the perfect camera to go anywhere, anytime on a moment's notice.
Neutral Density Filter
For enhanced versatility, the XF100 offers a built-in gradation type neutral density (ND) filter (approximately 1/8), as well as an eight-blade metal aperture iris.
SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer
The XF100 also incorporates a newly designed SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization system (lens shift) with three modes: Standard, Dynamic and Powered.
Instant AF
When shooting high definition video, sharp focus becomes more critical than ever. Canon's proprietary Instant AF system combines an external AF sensor with Canon's legendary auto focus system for fast and accurate focus. Together, the two sensors reduce focusing time--even in low-light, low contrast, or high brightness situations--and improve focusing performance on difficult subjects.
8-Blade Iris
In contrast to a typical 6-blade iris, the XF100's 8-blade iris captures extraordinarily smooth out-of-focus "bokeh" for a more attractive image effect. The additional blades also reduce diffraction of light passing through the iris, allowing for the use of smaller apertures while maintaining image quality.
Digital Teleconverter
The Digital Teleconverter extends the reach of the optical zoom, and is selectable by 1.5x, 3x and 6x. This feature is ideal when extreme telephoto shooting is needed such as in sports and wildlife, as well as, surveillance applications for law enforcement and the military.
Slow Motion & Fast Motion
Slow and Fast Motion Modes allow the XF100 to record a different frame rate than the playback frame rate, resulting in either a fast or slow motion effect during playback. Since the camera is recording real frames and modifying the playback rate, there is no quality loss and maximum image quality is maintained. 1
Interval Recording
With this feature, users can program the camera to record a specified number of frames at specified intervals. The technique can be used to observe natural phenomena over extended periods, making it ideal for time-lapse applications. The interval can be set in 25 levels ranging from 1 second to 10 minutes. Frame recording is also possible, allowing a specified number of frames to be recorded--ideal for projects such as clay animation.
3.5" 920K Dot LCD Monitor
A 3.5", 920,000 Dot LCD monitor provides an ample, accurate area for critical focus confirmation and approximately 100% field of view. The display opens on the left side of the camera body.
260K Dot Electronic Viewfinder
The XF100 features a 0.24", 260,000 Dot Color EVF and approximately 100% field of view coverage for comfortable viewing and accurate judgment of composition. Brightness, contrast, color and backlight are adjustable. The angle of the viewfinder is adjustable up and down through 68° for additional user comfort and when using the LCD display for monitoring.
Focus Assist Functions
With Canon's new Edge Monitor Focus Assist system, a red and green monitor is shown at the bottom of the LCD display and three red focus check areas are shown across the display. The green waveform shows overall focus of the image, while the red waveform shows the focus status of the focus check boxes. Through this dynamic focus feedback, the user can intuitively tune focus in a scene and quickly change the zone of focus.
Peaking/Magnify
Two peaking modes and a magnify focus assist function are available in standby and record mode (LCD monitor and EVF), making it extremely easy for the XF100 operator to check and confirm critical focus.
Exceptional Customization
Users of the XF100 Professional Camcorder have full manual control of all camera functions to adapt to both technical and artistic challenges when shooting. For maximum customization, users have access to Custom Picture Settings, Custom Functions and Custom Display Options to tailor the camera to their creative and production needs. Any combination of these items can be saved to an SD memory card for easy setup and matching of multiple XF100 and XF105 camcorders.
Custom Picture Settings
You can manually set an extensive variety of image quality adjustments and store them as 9 different presets in the camera. Up to 20 may be saved to an SD card. The adjustments include: Gamma, Black Level, Black Gamma, Low Key Saturation, Knee, Sharpness, Noise Reduction, Skin Detail, Selective Noise Reduction, Color Matrix, White Balance, Color Correction and Setup Level.
Custom Functions
The XF100's operation can be further fine-tuned through the use of Custom Functions. This allows the camcorder to truly match your shooting style. A total of 15 unique items can be adjusted including: Shockless Gain, Shockless White Balance, AE Response, Iris Limit, Iris Ring Direction, Focus Ring Control and Character Record. And for quick access to commonly used functions, the XF100 features 10 customizable control buttons.
Custom Display
The Custom Display function lets you set 32 display items to create a custom LCD/EVF to suit your specific needs. Items that can be selected include: Zoom Position, Audio Level, Remaining Record Time, Exposure, Object Distance, Time Code and more.
Workflow
Smooth and efficient workflow is an essential part of the production process. Canon's XF Codec is supported by the industry's leading manufacturers: Adobe, Apple, Avid and Grass Valley. This ensures the widest compatibility with existing infrastructure and non-linear editing (NLE) software.
Audio System
A stereo microphone is incorporated into the XF100, as are two XLR audio inputs with +48V phantom power and a 3.5mm microphone input terminal. The built-in microphone provides exceptional audio in fast-paced situations while the XLR inputs and microphone input terminal provide connectivity to external microphones. In addition the XLR inputs allow the use of other professional audio devices. The built-in microphone and an external microphone can be used simultaneously.

Audio is recorded in 16-bit PCM format at 48kHz for amazing quality and fidelity. And both the built-in microphone and XLR inputs have the option for automatic or full manual gain control. To prevent variations in the recorded audio level, the dial can also be locked.
Connectivity
Not only does the XF100 Professional Camcorder provide the professional user with complete control over the image, it also provides complete creative freedom when it comes to inputs and outputs including:
  • HDMI Output
  • Component Video Output
  • Composite Video Output (3.5mm Terminal)
  • USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Terminal
  • Remote Control Terminal (compatible with LANC protocol)
Waveform Monitor
Videographers depend on this feature to confirm accurate exposure and color levels during the capture process. Typically only found on expensive external units, the Canon XF100 has a waveform monitor built right into the camera. The waveform monitor shows a detailed view of overall image brightness and RGB components.
Intelligent Battery System
The XF100 is compatible with Canon's new BP-925, as well as the BP-955 and BP-975 Intelligent Lithium-ion batteries. These batteries communicate remaining running time (down to the minute) and send data back to the camcorder, so the user is well-informed at all times. On the outside of the battery, four LED lamps allow battery life to be viewed quickly when in the field. The camcorder is also compatible with existing Canon BP-900 series batteries--which can be inserted and removed while the supplied AC power cable is connected.
Color Bars with Reference Tone
Two types of color bars can be selected: Type 1 (SMPTE compliant) or Type 2 (ARIB compliant); 1 kHz Reference Tone: -12dB, -18dB, 20dB or OFF
Photo Capture
For applications such as storyboarding, continuity and publicity shots, the XF100 offers the ability to capture 1920 x 1080 still images. Photos may be captured to an SD memory card during the time of recording, as well as "frame grabbed" during playback.
Bundled Canon XF Utility Software
Compatible for use on both Mac and Windows platforms, Canon's XF Utility software provides a simplified first step in the process of managing and playing back your clips. Additionally, the software can manage lists of clips in a number of display formats, as well as tag, add and edit metadata. It also serves as an efficient means of backing up media.

This is my 5th video camera I own (DVX100, JVC GY-HD100, JVC GY-HM100 plus a couple of Sony) and I shot numerous times with HMC150, HPX170, EX1, HPX370. By far this camera is the best bang for the buck out there at the moment.
Let's start with the sensor: 1/3" native 1080, yes it's not 3 sensor block, but the picture is extremely clean and noise free in the good light. Also it increases light sensitivity by about 2 F stops in 720 mode. I was able to shoot at 6dB with medium room light. Dark areas are showing a bit of mosquito noise, but really low levels and a lot can be cleaned up with filters. Which brings me to the fantastic codec. 50Mbs 422 is easy to edit native (I use FCP), doesn't give any color banding and footage out of camera has fantastic "flat" look, ready for color adjustments. This is a dream to edit and the footage can produce image way better then EX1.It has the same picture profile adjustment as XF300/305.
LCD is really good, peaking is great, so is the edge focus assist tool. WFM allows to adjust exposure correctly as well. IR mode is just amazing, I shot my black cat in a completely black room and the results were just smashing.
Even though it has one ring, you can use assignable button/knob to control iris, there are already 2 zoom rockers, so I use the ring for focus only. One thing I noticed that the iris knob is sluggish (one of the reasons I did not give 5 stars).
You can record to two cards at once for instant backup. Get plenty of cards or a storage unit:16GB will get you only 40 minutes at 50Mbs.
It really sits well in my hand, it's really light, but well balanced. Also because it's light you can get by with lighter tripod.
My only true "gripe" with this camera is an auto ND. It starts kicking in at F4, you can turn it off in menu, but I would much prefer manual one. The other minus is it doesn't communicate with AB ElipZ battery, so you don't know how much time is left.
Over all it is a great camera and IMO the best buy for the money at the moment. I only received it a couple of days ago, but I showed the footage to few of my friends on my 42" LCD and they were blown away by the quality. Canon waited for a long time with such camera, but it blows away any other camera in the price range. I would put it on parr with EX1, which costs more then double and forces you to buy really expen$ive media (SxS).

The Picture can be a little noisy even when there is no gain added. Likely due to single chip.

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

I am a happy user of this XF100HD camera. I hesitated for a long time because my passion is doing animal Safaris with clients. I was able to test out the performance in the African Bush and it is awsome. Stability is 1000% superb, cloros natural and HD quality stuning. I must however say that I waqs very happy to have the teleconverter for increasing zoom capacity because some times lions are not just at your feet. In all I am enchanted. By the way anyone wants to go on Safari contact me in Kenya. Dominique Boyriven

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

I've been looking at camcorders for several years now, seeking one with a good feature set and this one has it! There are manual controls galore as well as a full auto mode. Sound is okay with the built in mike but a good shotgun goes well with a camcorder of this quality.

While there's only one ring on the lens (zoom, focus and iris) the fact is you'll probably be using one of the two zoom switches and auto focus. Bottom line: you have iris mode and full time if you want it. So although I personally would have liked all three, you can make do quite well with one ring.

Navigation (when you need it) via the menu system is quite easy while the quality of both the LCD and VF are also topnotch. There are also assignable buttons (10, I believe) for easy shortcuts to the functions you wish to access. Right now I'm in the learning stage; that will tell me what things I might wish to assign to these buttons.

One negative, so far at least, is that only the professional (i.e. expensive) NLEs can import Canon MXF files. While I don't think that will last long, in fact there are numerous converters out there which should permit you to use the relatively inexpensive editors, which will permit you to post to YOUTUBE and other social network sites.

The build seems quite good, the body appearing to be quite solid. There is however a learning curve, but so what! After all, one purchases such a camera for what it can do; this can do it so buckle up and do your homework!

Video is excellent; in fact, the BBC finds this camera suitable for broadcast video due to its 4:2:2 colorspace.

A 20x zoom range would have been fantastic. However, unless you want to carry around a "horse" of a camera, this one still has a good tele range. And you can always buy Canon's extender, or WA adapter as well.

Conclusion: The wait was worth it!

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

I am a budding cinematographer. My pervious camera was the XHA1, which was excellent. But when it was stolen I had to find a replacement. After contemplating all my options i decided I wanted true HD and tapeless. This is a great camera. It has great manual controls and a good layout. There are some really neat "extras" too like slow/fast recording and time lapse. Also the infrared, although seldom used but fun to play with, is by far better then any other camera I have seen in this class. The only drawbacks is the lack of control rings. There is a little switch behind the single ring that switches between Focus, Zoom, and Iris. I favor the more manual feel from a larger lens, but i was aware of this before i purchased it so I can't complain too much. But the focal depth rivals any DSLRs on the market. Overall this camera is better then expected. The next best camera on the market is more then double the price! And I would still rather use it then many cameras that are twice the price! So unless you Mr. Money bags I would defiantly recommend it.

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

Pretty nice camera, small size, 50mb sec recording = to 5d weighs 3lb 30-300mm zoom nice screen feels solid.
Easier to shoot video than 5d for sure, menu's take some getting used to but if you have a Canon it shouldn't be hard, love the CF card's a dupe recording as well as spanning. Only negative is menu's / buttons are not as easy as a 5d but having autofocus sometimes is a great plus pro audio is huge plus. for 3k I love it....

PS. I realize the 5d rocks on shallow dof and I have the full rig kits but not worrying about my hdmi cable on my Marshall monitor and not having to sync in plural eyes (which bites imho) I find the Canon a plus to own.

I use it for Ads & Independent films.
This thing is small and light. Like the buttons and menu option. The menu toggle is nice compared to touch screen on other cannon models. 422 and MPEG2 and cfcards. What else is there....

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

First off I'll say that I'm rating this units performance in fully manual with a bout 8 years professional experience in pro level videography. These units have noticeable gain issues. Yes, even at 0 gain. The camera store rep was even lost for words. We lined up both the XF 100 and 105 live in the store and brought it to the mac only to be disappointed with desaturated, noisy image produced, especially in high contrast areas. I'll also add that there is no evidence of noise in the flip out LCD. They both displayed the same behavior. I would have gotten a cleaner look from my XHA1s or Vixia at that. They have these color profile setting that are supposed to be a big deal. However, this unit should produce better quality out of the box without having to load color profiles. The XF100 has a lot of bark when reading the specs but maybe that single chip just isn't cutting it. Very disappointed for [$]. :( Totally not worth it. Your best bet would be to take a CF card into the store, capture footage, then take it home to view. What's great about it? The size, weight and dual CF card capability. Other than that Canon missed on this one big time.

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

I am a photographer moving into video. I intend to create art films on the order of Baraka. I am not very strong and this camera is perfect for me. It is small and light weight and creates an excellent picture.

The disadvantage is that is records in MXF files. These are native to Premiere Pro but I am one of the view that actually likes FCP X, which will not read the files. None of the converters available will maintain the two separate audio tracks (they all merge them). Some of my clips have different audio on each of the tracks, so this doesn't work for me. I am still seeking a solution to this issue.

A ~2.5 pounds video camera with quality and features that rival cameras costing (and weighing) 10 times as much. I love this camera.
In the sixties the use of the 35mm slr's revolutionized the photojournalism industry by putting quality imaging into something that was small, light and unobtrusive. This camera is as significant in videojournalism.

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

I love this camera. It's almost perfect. Loaded with features and creates a great looking picture.

              Pros

              Great optical image stabilization.

              Low light is decent.

              Plenty of zoom control variations.

Great LCD image quality with high detail level

              Cons:
HDMI and component connection is where your hand goes under the strap, which means you can't use those connections when handheld. I wish they were where the SDI and genlock plugs are on the XF105

Gain button has to go through auto, medium and high to get back to no gain. If it was a switch, it you could flip it right back

No audio input 1/2 combine switch externally. To put input 1's audio on channel 2, you have to turn it on in the menu.

Has the standard canon size mic clamp, which is too big for most shotgun mics

              Not natively compatible with quicktime/FCP

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

I've used many Canon cameras over the years and this was an upgrade into the 50Mbps class for broadcast and to improve color representation with the 4:2:2 capture. The low light performance is good but in auto mode I noticed it actually seemd to brighten the scene above what the actual lighting is, perhaps adding too much gain, which may blow out the brightest highlight areas. Of course this is rectified in manual mode. In low light there is a bit of mosquito noise, but no more than other cameras I've used. In fact, most cameras would be useless in low light situations where this one still provides a decent image.

It has many excellent features including the infared video, dual XLR inputs, relay and double slot recording for instant backup, good battery life, a huge LCD screen, 48V phantom power for certain mics, lightweight construction, etc. Image quality is excellent but as all digital video, when panning over areas of high detail, requires a slow smooth pan to reduce blurring/pixelation. The XMF format does not seem to be as bad as the AVCHD format in this regard however.

The standard zoom is pretty limited, and for sports or outdoor docs it might limit some users, although zoom rates and smoothness are adjustable.

The biggest downside for many users is the Canon .MXF files in the 50Mbps rate cannot be used in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, CS3, etc. You will need either Final Cut Pro or a rather expensive upgrade to PPro CS 5.5.

Great compact camera that shoots high quality video at an affordable price. Extremely light weight. I love that it uses Compact Flash cards as well. The zoom at its fastest setting is pretty slow, unfortunately. Importing clips to Avid/FCP is not initially a simple process either compared to other card-based cameras I have worked with. I like that it shoots 60 fps, but it only shoots that speed at 1280x720.

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

Despite being a 1 chip device, this camcorder rocks! Like other comments, the external mic holder is "mickey mouse" and unworthy of Canon's overall excellent design and engineering.

But the results of shooting indoors and outdoors is fabulous. I had a quick shoot where I had no time to make manual adjustments and just shot on full auto outdoors. GREAT!

Sure, I wish I had more telephoto rather than the 10X, but we can buy an extra lens to add 1.5 to it.

The Canon manual omitted some things like where do you put the LINC input, but otherwise the info is easy to digest. I compared my XF!00 to someone's XF300 and guess what, the image was about 95% as crisp, high-quality and clean as the other Canon was.

Tapeless is a great thing that happened to event videographers and for this price is even better. The camera handles very well. I was skiptical at first coz it's only one chip but its a very good little camera.

The downside is it's small and clients are not used to small cameras and secondly the iris dial it not is a bit late in responding but you get use to it.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the image... only one 1/3 chip and this camera performs much better than my Sony Z1. Picture profile is such a great feature in addition to 50mbps recording. Very small and practical. No manual ND filters but very useful automatic ND (surprisingly too). Manual focus is a bit tricky. Aperture control on lens (switchable to zoom or focus) is great. Low light is not bad at all (a bit noisy starting at 6db). A push button to circle through gain presets, not ideal but fine. Double compact flash slots for continuous recording! No wonder this camcorder is always back-ordered! There is no better camcorder in this price range.

Comments about Canon XF100 HD Professional Camcorder:

Use professionally for local news, events, sports, interviews.

Received the camera only 2 week ago.

Only read the instruction book's cautions about charging battery, removing memory card, etc., before using. Out of the box, this camera is very intuitive with buttons and controls where I would expect them. Will soon use custom settings, but have not yet found a need to use any, and this includes H.S. football, low lighting in city council chambers (even when lights were dimmed to show a slide presentation).

On the spot interviews with the built in mic, even with noisy ambient sounds from a band warming up 15 feet away was wonderful - Also used the camera with wireless on its auto audio settings and have been very pleased.

Also perfect video under changing light from late afternoon to way into dark at public park doing interviews. Using the camera with this changing light from daylight to the mixture of lights in a city nightscape resulted in stunning colors while doing interviews. Remember - I am still using this camera on complete auto and the resulting colors really gave a sense of the atmosphere of the entire scene, including pleasing skin tones.

Even after 2 hours of handholding, there is no apparent shakiness in the finished video - congrats to Canon!

I am not pleased that converting the files is so difficult and time consuming because of lack of plug-ins. The included viewing software is great for reviewing clips - but the only included plug-in is for Final Cut Pro for my Mac. I am not willing to purchase Final Cut Pro just to experiment with it. I have found a work-around, but loading 130 clips from a football game, one at a time into HandBrake for conversion, just takes way too long.

I hope Canon works fast and furious to help us get these files into our many and varied editing software programs.

The zoom rocker is smooth and intuitive. I am pleased with the zoom range - wide angle seems to be sufficient for my varied needs - but haven't used the camera in close quarters and small rooms yet with a crowd of people. Have used it in a council chamber however and at about 25 feet from the back of the room can get all of the council table in the frame, and zoom OK to get closer. Wouldn't mind more tele though.

It would be nice if I received different instruction books for each language. They are all included in one book that is way to thick to pack along with the camera. This book is 7" X 10" and 3/4" thick and if carried in your bag will be a real burden.

I bought it to film a documentary and I love all the custom settings. The reason i went for this one was the size and xlr inputs but the picture quality was a surprise!
